La elaboración del documento parte del análisis del contexto de la Educación Superior en Colombia. A través de la interpretación de datos oficiales, describe las principales tendencias y características específicas de la subregión, entre ellas, cobertura, calidad y deserción. La investigación ofrece un panorama general sobre la historia de la educación en Colombia y, de manera particular, sobre el proceso de desarrollo de la Educación Superior, desde la época de la Independencia hasta llegar a nuestros días, y compara estos datos con América e Iberoamérica. En este sentido, analiza esta información con los referentes del departamento del Valle del Cauca y la región centro del departamento, resaltando la difícil situación por la cual cruza esta región
