Il s’appuie sur les résultats d’une nouvelle étude destinée à explorer les sources de la discrimination observée. L’originalité de cette méthode est de présenter des CV portant des noms identifiés à des origines particulières (françaises, maghrébines...) et d’autres dont l’origine est considérée comme « inconnue » par les recruteurs potentiels. Les résultats montrent que la discrimination à l’embauche à l’encontre des candidats issus de l’immigration est massive. Cette inégalité affecte toutes les candidatures d’origine étrangère, rejetant l’hypothèse d’une défiance ciblée à l’encontre de vagues particulières d’immigration. La question de la discrimination se pose ainsi surtout en termes d’opposition entre le groupe majoritaire, « autochtone », et l’ensemble des individus issus de l’immigration. Il faut cependant noter que la discrimination d’origine affecte beaucoup plus les candidatures masculines que les candidatures féminines. "

Book excerpt: Cette thèse a pour vocation de contribuer au débat sur la discrimination, en se focalisant essentiellement sur la France et les immigrés de seconde génération. La concurrence permet d'identifier certaines formes de la discrimination et peut expliquer sa persistance. Le premier chapitre propose une revue de la littérature développant les recherches concernant les liens entre concurrence et discrimination. Les chapitres suivants sont les contributions de l'auteur à ce champ de l'économie. La concurrence est abordée sous deux angles différents. Le premier aborde l'impact de la concurrence sur le marché du travail sur la discrimination. A partir d'un modèle de concurrence spatiale, le chapitre montre que les entreprises non discriminantes profitent de la présence d'entreprises discriminantes. Le second angle concerne la concurrence sur le marché des biens. Le secteur de la grande distribution permet d'étudier son impact sur les différentes facettes de l'emploi. Le quatrième chapitre utilise une expérimentation pour évaluer l'impact de la concurrence dans ce secteur sur la discrimination à l'embauche. Une testing montre que la concurrence n'a pas d'impact significatif sur l'embauche. Le cinquième chapitre utilise les chocs négatifs de concurrence dans le secteur pour étudier son effet sur le partage des rentes entre les salariés. Il montre une discrimination envers les femmes au niveau des salaires. Enfin, le troisième chapitre lie ces deux approches, en comparant les secteurs public et privé. Les différentiels de salaires sont significatifs lorsque l'accent est mis sur leur nationalité d’origine et monter une certaine similitude entre les deux secteurs.
