Book Research in Science Education in Europe

Download or read book Research in Science Education in Europe written by M. Bandiera and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a "photograph" of the state of the art in Science Education Research in Europe as it has emerged from the first ESERA Conference held in Rome in September 1997. The Conference saw the participation of more than 280 researchers from European and some extra European countries distributed as follows U. K. 46 The Netherlands 10 Germany 35 Finland 9 Italy 28 Switzerland 6 Spain 26 Portugal 6 France 18 Israel 5 Sweden Argentina 15 3 Denmark 14 Australia 3 Greece 14 USA 3 Brasil 11 Others 18 Norway TOTAL 11 281 As it can be seen from the table, although the group from U. K. where research in science education has a well established tradition is the most consistent one, quite a large number of researchers has come from Germany and the Scandinavian countries, sign of the increasing attention these countries pay to scientific education at all levels. The presence of researchers from extraeuropean countries has allowed a comparison of experience over a wider basisthan the national one. The themes of research, identified a priori by the organizers as important, were: of the Art in Science Education Research (Biology, - The State Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science) - Science Teaching and Learning - Science, Science Teaching and Society - Teachers' Education and its Cultural Components The Scientific Committee of the Conference decided to publish a selection of the papers presented and we accepted the task of the editing.

Book Science Education Research and Practice in Europe

Download or read book Science Education Research and Practice in Europe written by Doris Jorde and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-17 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each volume in the 7-volume series The World of Science Education reviews research in a key region of the world. These regions include North America, South and Latin America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Europe, Arab States, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The focus of this Handbook is on science education in Europe. In producing this volume the editors have invited a range of authors to describe their research in the context of developments in the continent and further afield. In reading this book you are invited to consider the historical, social and political contexts that have driven developments in science education research over the years. A unique feature of science education in Europe is the impact of the European Union on research and development over many years. A growing number of multi-national projects have contributed to the establishment of a community of researchers increasingly accepting of methodological diversity. That is not to say that Europe is moving towards homogeneity, as this volume clearly shows.

Book Cross National Information and Communication Technology Policies and Practices in Education

Download or read book Cross National Information and Communication Technology Policies and Practices in Education written by Tjeerd Plomp and published by IAP. This book was released on 2009-04-01 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compendium of papers documents educational ICT policies and practices in 37 countries, making it a valuable resource for understanding and comparing ICT-related national policy developments in education. We believe that this work offers a unique in-depth examination of the trends within major education systems and how they have adapted to and taken advantage of the challenges and opportunities posed by the new information and communication technologies. A special feature of this edition is that it allows for interesting comparative analyses of sub-groups of countries, as many Asian, European Union, and former eastern-European countries, as well as the United States and Canada (among others), are included in the book. But it allows also for other than regional comparisons given that a number of newly industrialized countries (such as Brazil, Chile, Malaysia, and South Africa) are represented in this book, together with many OECD countries. This book is the result of the effort and hard work of the contributing authors, many of whom are the NRCs for IEA SITES in their respective countries. Special thanks must go to the Norwegian Royal Ministry of Education and Research and the Netherlands Kennisnet ICT OP School Foundation, both of which provided generous support for the preparation and dissemination of the book, to the Center for Information Technology in Education (CITE) of the University of Hong Kong, which assisted in the technical preparation of the manuscript, and to the IEA Secretariat, which facilitated the copyediting of the chapters. We want to acknowledge especially the professional contribution of Paula Wagemaker, who has copyedited the entire volume. This copyediting work is especially critical and challenging, as many of the chapters were written by authors for whom English is a foreign language. We also want to express our appreciation to David Robitaille, chair of the IEA Publications and Editorial Committee, and his committee for the critical and constructive review of the manuscript.

Book Imporving Science Education

Download or read book Imporving Science Education written by John Millar and published by McGraw-Hill Education (UK). This book was released on 2000-12-16 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes stock of where we are in science education research, and considers where we ought now to be going. It explores how and whether the research effort in science education has contributed to improvements in the practice of teaching science and the science curriculum. It contains contributions from an international group of science educators. Each chapter explores a specific area of research in science education, considering why this research is worth doing, and its potential for development. Together they look candidly at important general issues such as the impact of research on classroom practice and the development of science education as a progressive field of research. The book was produced in celebration of the work of the late Rosalind Driver. All the principal contributors to the book had professional links with her, and the three sections of the book focus on issues that were of central importance in her work: research on teaching and learning in science; the role of science within the school curriculum and the nature of the science education we ought to be providing for young people; and the achievements of, and future agenda for, research in science education.

Book Innovative Methods for Science Education

Download or read book Innovative Methods for Science Education written by Olivier Bruneau and published by Frank & Timme GmbH. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collective book results of several meetings since 2006 between European historians of science and technology. Regularly, the six editors (and most of the authors present in this publication) organized symposia inside international conferences about the role of history of science and technology in science education and teacher training. The principal objectives of this book are: i) to enlighten and to discuss different research problems concerning HST (History of Science and Technology) and ICT (Information and Communication Technology), HST and IBST (Inquiry Based Science Teaching), HST and Science Education. In this way, it is dedicated to scholars, ii) to offer teachers and teacher trainers different ways to explore HST by using digital resources online, using a new teaching method and to become more familiar with the method in HST. As historians, the six editors develop research in the following fields: history of mathematics (O. Bruneau, M. R. Massa-Esteve and T. de Vittori), history of physics, chemistry and technology (P. Grapi, P. Heering, S. Laube). As teacher trainers at the university, they are also involved in research in science education about the role of HST to teach science at primary and secondary schools.
