Leggendo le promesse di Gesù a coloro che recitano questa coroncina, si comprende quanta potenza di intercessione abbia questa preghiera e quanto bene essa semini nel mondo sia ai mittenti che ai destinatari. Il mio entusiasmo per questa orazione è stato così grande che dopo alcuni anni ho pensato di scriverne una versione estesa in cui alle litanie previste per ogni grano del Rosario, l’orante dedicava qualche attimo alla meditazione della Passione di Nostro Signore ricordando le terribili sofferenze a cui Gesù è andato incontro volontariamente per farci di nuovo degni del Paradiso. Ho pensato perciò di regalarla a tutti i lettori in uno speciale Bonus, con la speranza che la recitiate e che possa essere un utile strumento di intercessione fra voi e il Cielo.

Zagorin surveys some of the chief sources of early modern doctrines of dissimulation in the Bible and the works of theologians from Jerome andAugustine to Erasmus, Luther, and Calvin. Subjects covered include Nicodemism, the name given by Calvin to secret Protestants who concealed their faith behind a facade of conformity to Catholic worship; crypto-Judaism in Spain; and the hidden beliefs of English Catholics.
