Book La construction d objet en sociologie

Download or read book La construction d objet en sociologie written by and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book La construction du social par les objets written by Bernard Blandin and published by Presses Universitaires de France - PUF. This book was released on 2002-11 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Craft of Sociology

Download or read book The Craft of Sociology written by Pierre Bourdieu and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 1991 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu has emerged, over the last two decades, as one of the most substantial and innovative bodies of theory and research in contemporary social science. The Craft of Sociology, both a textbook and an original contribution to epistemology in social science, focuses on a basic problem of sociological research: the necessity of an epistemological break with the preconstructed objects social practice offers to the researcher. Pierre Bourdieu and his co-authors argue in the epistemological tradition of scholars like Bachelard, Canguilhem, Koyre, a tradition that identifies the construction of the object as being the fundamental scientific act. Their way of discussing the issue makes it accessible not only to academics and experts of epistemology, but also to advanced students of social science, using for illustration a wide range of texts from the various social sciences as well as from philosophy of science. The book includes an interview with Pierre Bourdieu and an introduction by the editor to his sociological methodology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the relations between sociology and the different religions--Christianity with its various branches, Judaism, Islam, Oriental religions, sects and New Religious Movements? That is the question which this work, conceived on the occasion of the XXVth Conference of the International Society for the Sociology of Religion/Société Internationale de Sociologie des Religions (SISR), wishes to clarify. The book retraces the varied and troubled history of these relations and also reveals how in opening up its research to other religions besides the Christian, sociology is forced to redefine the very object of its field of study. What is the religious? This question, which until recently was considered impertinent, informs this book throughout. If confronts the necessity of rethinking theories and methodological approaches which, constructed in the context of 19th and early 20th century Western Europe, prove to be rather inadequate for encompassing contemporary religious phenomena and religious manifestations in other contexts. To these new theoretical and methodological demands is added, for the sociologist, a deontological imperative, which takes on all the more importance today as the religious provokes passionate social debate.

Book La sociologie comme elle s crit

Download or read book La sociologie comme elle s crit written by Jean-Louis Fabiani and published by Éditions de l’École des hautes études en sciences sociales. This book was released on 2019-06-19 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book La construction de la sociologie written by Jean-Michel Berthelot and published by Presses Universitaires de France - PUF. This book was released on 2005 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Constructing a Sociology of Translation

Download or read book Constructing a Sociology of Translation written by Michaela Wolf and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2007-10-25 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The view of translation as a socially regulated activity has opened up a broad field of research in the last few years. This volume deals with central questions of the new domain and aims to contribute to the conceptualisation of a general sociology of translation. Interdisciplinary in approach, it discusses the role of major representatives of sociology like Pierre Bourdieu, Bruno Latour, Bernard Lahire, Anthony Giddens or Niklas Luhmann in establishing a theoretical framework for a sociology of translation. Drawing on methodologies from sociology and integrating them into translation studies, the book questions some of the established categories in this discipline and calls for a redefinition of long-assumed principles. The contributions show the social involvement of translation in various fields and focus especially on the translator’s position in an emerging sociology of translation, Bourdieu’s influence in conceptualising this new sub-discipline, methodological questions and a sociologically oriented meta-discussion of translation studies.

Book Bourdieu s Theory of Social Fields

Download or read book Bourdieu s Theory of Social Fields written by Mathieu Hilgers and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-11-13 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bourdieu’s theory of social fields is one of his key contributions to social sciences and humanities. However, it has never been subjected to genuine critical examination. This book fills that gap and offers a clear and wide-ranging introduction to the theory. It includes a critical discussion of its methodology and relevance in different subject areas in the social sciences and humanities. Part I "theoretical investigations" offers a theoretical account of the theory, while also identifying some of its limitations and discussing several strategies to overcome them. Part II "Education, culture and organization" presents the theory at work and highlights its advantages and disadvantages. The focus in Part III devoted to "The State" is on the formation and evolution of the State and public policy in different contexts. The chapters show the usefulness of field theory in describing, explaining and understanding the functioning of the State at different stages in its historical trajectory including its recent redefinition with the advent of the neoliberal age. A last chapter outlines a postcolonial use of the theory of fields.
