Este marco especial, hecho a la medida de las necesidades de investigación sobre el pensamiento matemático y el aprendizaje, se ofrece en este libro como una evidencia de que comprometerse con la segunda necesidad no es el precio necesario para satisfacer la primera. Dicho esto, la tarea de construir el marco no está cerca de completarse. Por tanto, recomiendo ver este volumen como un resumen provisional de los esfuerzos continuados míos y de mis colegas.

En ese sentido la obra que Gabriela Buendía nos ofrece en este libro, es un excelente ejemplo de la construcción social de lo periódico y cómo, tal construcción, dimensiona la problemática de enseñar y aprender la periodi-cidad de una función. ?Lo periódico es todo aquello humano que tiene que ver con la periodicidad?, así nos explica el uso de ese conocimiento en las prácticas sociales. [?] Esta usanza no es aislada, sino por el contrario tiene tradición, pertenece a la cultura y a la historia de ciertas comunidades del conocimiento. El lector encontrará en definitiva una construcción social de la periodicidad que obliga a ampliar la problemática de la enseñanza y aprendizaje de las matemáticas. Conllevará reflexionar sobre los significa-dos de la problemática misma y sobre las pautas para que estas construc-ciones intervengan y afecten a los sistemas didácticos en cuestión.
