The predominant pattern since at least the eighteenth century had been for peoples to move to and settle in Western countries permanently, with relatively little substantive interchange with their former homelands, hence adopting the modes of articulation characteristic of their new societies (a process expressed with respect to the USA, for example, as "Americanization"). This pattern has now changed, and there is considerable interaction between homeland and migrant peoples. One of the places this has become especially important is in religious exchanges. While some negative effects of this process may grab headlines, there have also been extensive positive interactions, not least among African peoples, especially with respect to pentecostal and allied religious movements. Le résultat de ces questionnements a été l’établissement d’une communauté intentionnelle (appelé Le Voisinage) dans un quartier étudiant de la ville de Québec, où un groupe de jeunes adultes a décidé d’emménager ensemble afin d’intégrer la vie, la foi et la mission dans leur milieu. Ce mémoire cherche à poser une fondation missiologique à cette communauté par un examen approfondi de son contexte et une mise en corrélation entre Le Voisinage et un mouvement de communautés intentionnelles évangéliques, le Nouveau monachisme. Le volet contextuel se concentre sur deux questions : dans quel contexte est né le ministère étudiant Pouvoir de Changer, et comment ce contexte a t-il instauré des méthodes et des façons de penser qui sont soit déconnectées de la réalité présente, soit des distorsions de la mission chrétienne? Nous soutenons qu’un ministère dédié exclusivement à l’évangélisation et la formation de disciples n’est pertinent que dans un contexte christianisé, et que la théologie de la croissance des églises dont nous avons hérité provient d’un imaginaire formé par la société de consommation. Par conséquent, cette missiologie s’engage dans le consumérisme et s’avère nuisible aux jeunes et à l’Église. Nous terminons en évaluant comment la missiologie néo-monastique, basée sur l’idée de l’Église comme communauté de témoignage, et sa perspective élargie de Royaume de Dieu, peuvent équilibrer une missiologie centrée sur l’évangélisation et le salut individuel. Une missiologie et une pratique équilibrées pourront ainsi aider la communauté Le Voisinage à mieux servir les étudiants qui affrontent les pressions de la société de consommation.
