La visée théologique de ce livre reste primordiale. À découvrir l’importance ontologique et la portée théologale dont saint Thomas crédite l’activité de connaissance et de vouloir exercée par l’homme Jésus, on assiste à la mise en œuvre de la belle ambition, couronnée de succès : surmonter l’antagonisme multiséculaire, trop vite jugé inévitable, de la démarche théologique dite d’« en haut » et de celle qualifiée d’« en bas ». Au dossier des plus grandes réponses offertes dans l’histoire à la redoutable question qui est latente dans l’affirmation « vrai Dieu et vrai homme », la christologie retracée ici servira de forte référence.
