Nuestra civilización ya no cree en el hombre, El relativismo es la filosofía dominante de nuestra época, la cual deja huérfano al hombre de valores e ideales objetivos; sólo la voluntad individual, el deseo egoísta que busca ser colmado de inmediato es lo que parece dar sentido a la mayoría de las existencias actuales. Así, nos vemos abocados al nihilismo como lógica consecuencia relativista. El relativismo y el nihilismo destruyen la educación. Se rechaza la tradición, sobre la que debe basarse la educación de las nuevas generaciones, y se sustituye por la idea de que todo es una construcción individual y social. El constructivismo educativo parte de esta afirmación. Pero también hay razones internas al sistema educativo. El igualitarismo pedagógico, la escuela comprensiva, la errónea relación alumno-profesor, la falta de autoridad en nuestras escuelas e institutos son algunas de ellas. Pero hay razones para la esperanza. Bastaría que rescatáramos la centralidad de la persona y la concretáramos en la figura del docente y del estudiante, para que pusiéramos las bases de otra educación. La escuela católica, sin duda, es la que en mejor disposición está para esa hermosa tarea.
