Book The Bible You Don t Get In Church

Download or read book The Bible You Don t Get In Church written by Lewis Tagliaferre and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-09-06 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With all the books available about the Bible, why another one? Well, it must be necessary, or it would not exist. Why you found this book and whether you read it or not can only be explained as the will of God. That is the conclusion offered in this review and commentary which combines bible history and content without interpretation that, although possibly not unique or even original, are easily read to help disclose the danger in proof texting scriptures. It presents the story of the Bible through scriptures and commentary not likely to be discussed in churches or Sunday School classes. What this book does is give you a concise, but fairly complete, summary of the evidence presented in the scriptures themselves, unvarnished, with no proof texting or cherry picking, without any specific church dogma that may be distorting or hiding the truth. The appendices include commandments by Jesus and instructions of Apostle Paul, scriptures very few churches feel comfortable discussing. However, you're not left dangling in space with no firm ground underneath your feet. Scripture says the truth will make you free. Since the Bible obviously contains contradictions and needs a better editor, there must be inferred some omnipotent power in the universe sustaining its interest and church expansion through two millennia. If you are skeptical or critical about church teachings, you may have found the solution to your concerns here in the discussion of Theofatalism, i.e., the GOD above gods, the prime force in the universe. With this belief, you can feel good inside no matter what happens outside if you work it. The conclusion may be quite a shock, but it definitely is a soft landing.

Book Everything About the Bible That You Never Had Time to Look Up

Download or read book Everything About the Bible That You Never Had Time to Look Up written by W. Milton Timmons and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2003-02 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visit the author's website at www.miltontimmons.com. Heretofore it has required years of study, access to many rare books, and superhuman effort to cut through the nearly impenetrable prose of these ancient books. Now all the hard work has been done for you in this easy to read summary. The project began during the course of collecting background material for a novel about the origins of Christianity when it soon became apparent that reliable information was very scarce. Perhaps half the books that shaped Western concepts of religion have ceased to exist. Many were destroyed as heretical after the early ecumenical councils closed the biblical canon in the fourth century; others have simply turned to dust. The oldest biblical manuscripts in existence are the Dead Sea Scrolls, which go back to approximately 100 B.C.E. And the oldest Christian manuscripts are those found in the Gnostic library of Nag Hammadi, in Egypt written in the fourth century C.E. But they don't contain any of the canonical books. All other information comes to us via copies of copies. Before invention of the printing press in 1450, all replication was by hand which allowed countless variations to creep into texts. Especially after translation into multiple languages, many stories evolved into a wide spectrum of versions. Which is the "true" version? It is impossible to say. The aim of this volume is to be concise rather than exhaustive thus making available to general readers the main sources of Judeo-Christian thought, without the distraction of scholarly disputes. For the benefit of those who may question the interpretation of certain documents, or who wish more information about original sources, a selected bibliography is included. It should be remembered that the books in this volume were written by very primitive people who were trying to make sense of the world with the only information they had. But even in those days, most of these authors were not considered educated by their Greek and Roman contemporaries. Moreover, the Jewish and Christian leaders who created the biblical canon rejected the majority of these documents as products of overheated imagination. So there are times when descriptions necessarily become a bit whimsical. Always, however, the goal has been to cover the author's main points while eliminating only the extraneous. Even though many of these books did not end up in any authorized Bible, they have nevertheless been extremely influential in the evolution of religious traditions. To this day, sermons, theological doctrines, and Sunday school lessons are still based on these extra-canonical sources: Where did medieval artists get the idea for all those paintings about the "Assumption of the Virgin"? There's nothing in the Bible about any such event. How do Catholics justify their doctrine that Mary remained a virgin all her life even though the Bible says Jesus had several brothers and sisters? Where did Dante Alighieri get his concepts about the levels of hell? Where did John Milton get the plot for his story about Lucifer the fallen angel? The documents contained in this book are where those ideas, and a myriad others, all came from.

Download or read book The Bible Without Theology written by Robert A. Oden and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thought-provoking volume, Robert A. Oden Jr. advocates stripping away the theological and historiographic biases that underlie modern biblical scholarship in order to arrive at a nontheological historical reading of the Bible. Oden calls into question a scholarly tradition that accepts biblical writers' views of themselves and their neighbors at face value and reproduces a view of Israelite religion as divinely guided and inherently superior. Using cross-cultural and interdisciplinary methodology, Oden investigates three biblical issues--the clothing of Adam and Eve, Jacob's name change to Israel, and ritual prostitution and Deuteronomy--in light of extra-biblical evidence. He also challenges scholars' assumptions of Scripture as monotheistic and proposes treating biblical narrative as myth rather than as historical fact.

Book Is The World s Oldest Bible A Fake

Download or read book Is The World s Oldest Bible A Fake written by David W. Daniels and published by Chick Publications. This book was released on 2018-01-09 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern research techniques have revealed a hidden scheme aimed at God's Holy Words... Modern Bibles have changed many verses because of the discovery of an "ancient" manuscript in a monastery on the Sinai Peninsula. The manuscript, called Sinaiticus, is claimed to be the earliest complete copy of the New Testament. Its discoverer, who was a world leading Bible scholar in his time, told the world Sinaiticus was from the 4th century and that it was the "oldest and best" Bible available. Publishers rushed to make new Bibles with many changes to match it. But not everyone agreed. When this famed 19th century Bible scholar, Constantine Von Tischendorf, claimed the ancient date, a well-known Greek calligrapher said, "No! I made that document!" But why did no one believe him? Maybe it's because pages of the manuscript were stored where no one could view them, archived in exclusive collections across several continents. Now, an international group has carefully photographed each page of Sinaiticus and is displaying it on the internet as high-quality digital images. For the first time, Bible scholars and students can see the entire manuscript together, as was never possible before. And what they are seeing with their own eyes is shocking. Some of the pages are white and look quite new, while others have been darkened to make them look very old. If they are all from the same "old" Bible, how can this be? Researcher David W. Daniels proves with easy-to-understand evidence that the Sinaiticus is not the oldest manuscript and certainly not the best, either. He is also convincing in showing it's not old after all and that the Greek calligrapher did make it, in the 19th century. The textual (and doctrinal) changes in modern Bibles are based upon a fake —a shadowy scheme worthy of Satan's hatred for the preserved words of God.
