Interpellé, j'ai réfléchi sur les limites du rôle infirmier dans l'évaluation et la prise en charge de la douleur aiguë. Comment les professionnels font-ils concrètement pour évaluer et atténuer la douleur aiguë? L'utilisation des diagnostics infirmiers est-elle un bon outil pour gérer la douleur aiguë? Le rôle autonome infirmier est-il un rôle significatif dans la gestion de la douleur aiguë? Pour tenter de répondre à ces questions, j'ai d'abord défini trois hypothèses concernant les problèmes du rôle médico-délégué et les avantages d'une pratique infirmière réflexive efficace. Puis, j'ai analysé les données recueillies auprès d'infirmiers diplômés lors de six entretiens semi-directifs. Les résultats montrent bien le souci des professionnels d'améliorer la prise en charge de la douleur. Dans ce sens, les infirmiers interrogés sont conscients de l'importance et des apports du rôle autonome tout en reconnaissant les limites intrinsèques de leur rôle.
