Book L individu dans le monde du vivant

Download or read book L individu dans le monde du vivant written by Véronique Le Ru and published by Mimesis. This book was released on 2015 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Individualidade Biol gica Em Perspectiva Filos fica

Download or read book Individualidade Biol gica Em Perspectiva Filos fica written by Karel van den Bergen and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2007-01-22 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human reality, they taught me, is built by perception and its processing. We perceive individuals. Living individuality seems simple. Understanding it proved to be very difficult. This study tries to discover what figure appears when scientific biological individuality is projected in the secular and modern perspective of the paradoxical - philosophic theories of the one and the multiple. It became: not absoulte, intensely relative and holistic: perhaps a better model for human individuals and social wellbeing.

This book was released on 1990 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both Leibniz and Humboldt are scholars in whose work we find a passionate interest in the history and development of languages combined with a strong theoretical commitment. Linking their names to linguistic comparativism draws attention to the contribution these scholars have made to the history of comparativism and also promotes discussion of the relationship of theory and practice in linguistic research in more general terms. In September 1986, a conference on Leibniz, Humboldt and the Origins of Comparativism' was held in Rome. The papers included in this volume are revised versions of the papers presented at the conference.

Book The Dreyfus Affair and the Rise of the French Public Intellectual

Download or read book The Dreyfus Affair and the Rise of the French Public Intellectual written by Tom Conner and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-05-08 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While countless books have chronicled the wrongful conviction of French military officer Alfred Dreyfus, his ensuing trials, and his eventual exoneration, this distinctive volume examines France's Dreyfus Affair (1894-1906) with a critical eye, analyzing the actions of its main protagonists, the rise of the public intellectual, and the Affair's continued relevance. After a brief overview of the events to establish the poisoned ideological climate of the day, the work explores how intellectuals like Bernard Lazare, Emile Zola, and others contributed to the Affair, defining both it and themselves in the process. With mini-portraits of the key players and a detailed chronology, this telling book combines rigorous scholarship with cultural commentary to demonstrate the continued relevance of the example set by Dreyfus and his many supporters.

Book African Agrarian Systems

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1963 this volume surveys various aspects of the complex relations between rights in land, social organization and economic interests in tropical Africa. The papers - in English and French but with summaries in the other language - analyse case studies illustrating the various basic factors and problems connected with land in Tropical Africa. Indigenous systems of tenure and their adaptation to commercial agriculture, the balance between rights and obligations of groups and individuals, and the authority and duties of chiefs and headmen are discussed in detail for many different areas. Against this background important contributions are made towards the better understanding of problems raised by economic and political development, population increase, migration and scarcity of land.

Book Literature and Weather

Download or read book Literature and Weather written by Johannes Ungelenk and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-02-19 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Literature and Weather. Shakespeare – Goethe – Zola" is dedicated to the relation between literature and weather, i.e. a cultural practice and an everyday phenomenon that has played very different epistemic roles in the history of the world. The study undertakes an archaeology of literature’s affinity to the weather which tells the story of literature’s weathery self-reflection and its creative reinventions as a medium in different epistemic and social circumstances. The book undertakes extensive close readings of three exemplary literary texts: Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Goethe’s The Sufferings of Young Werther and Zola’s The Rougon-Macquarts. These readings provide the basis for reconstructing three distinct formations, negotiating the relationship between literature and weather in the 17th, the 18th and the 19th centuries. The study is a pioneering contribution to the recent debates of literature’s indebtedness to the environment. It initiates a rewriting of literary history that is weather-sensitive; the question of literature’s agency, its power to affect, cannot be raised without understanding the way the weather works in a certain cultural formation.
