Book L Functions and the Oscillator Representation

Download or read book L Functions and the Oscillator Representation written by Stephen Rallis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes are concerned with showing the relation between L-functions of classical groups (*F1 in particular) and *F2 functions arising from the oscillator representation of the dual reductive pair *F1 *F3 O(Q). The problem of measuring the nonvanishing of a *F2 correspondence by computing the Petersson inner product of a *F2 lift from *F1 to O(Q) is considered. This product can be expressed as the special value of an L-function (associated to the standard representation of the L-group of *F1) times a finite number of local Euler factors (measuring whether a given local representation occurs in a given oscillator representation). The key ideas used in proving this are (i) new Rankin integral representations of standard L-functions, (ii) see-saw dual reductive pairs and (iii) Siegel-Weil formula. The book addresses readers who specialize in the theory of automorphic forms and L-functions and the representation theory of Lie groups. N

Book Automorphic Representations L Functions and Applications Progress and Prospects

Download or read book Automorphic Representations L Functions and Applications Progress and Prospects written by James W. Cogdell and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-06-24 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the proceedings of the conference on Automorphic Representations, L-functions and Applications: Progress and Prospects, held at the Department of Mathematics of The Ohio State University, March 27–30, 2003, in honor of the 60th birthday of Steve Rallis. The theory of automorphic representations, automorphic L-functions and their applications to arithmetic continues to be an area of vigorous and fruitful research. The contributed papers in this volume represent many of the most recent developments and directions, including Rankin–Selberg L-functions (Bump, Ginzburg–Jiang–Rallis, Lapid–Rallis) the relative trace formula (Jacquet, Mao–Rallis) automorphic representations (Gan–Gurevich, Ginzburg–Rallis–Soudry) representation theory of p-adic groups (Baruch, Kudla–Rallis, Mœglin, Cogdell–Piatetski-Shapiro–Shahidi) p-adic methods (Harris–Li–Skinner, Vigneras), and arithmetic applications (Chinta–Friedberg–Hoffstein). The survey articles by Bump, on the Rankin–Selberg method, and by Jacquet, on the relative trace formula, should be particularly useful as an introduction to the key ideas about these important topics. This volume should be of interest both to researchers and students in the area of automorphic representations, as well as to mathematicians in other areas interested in having an overview of current developments in this important field.

Book Relative Trace Formulas

Download or read book Relative Trace Formulas written by Werner Müller and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of three symposia took place on the topic of trace formulas, each with an accompanying proceedings volume. The present volume is the third and final in this series and focuses on relative trace formulas in relation to special values of L-functions, integral representations, arithmetic cycles, theta correspondence and branching laws. The first volume focused on Arthur’s trace formula, and the second volume focused on methods from algebraic geometry and representation theory. The three proceedings volumes have provided a snapshot of some of the current research, in the hope of stimulating further research on these topics. The collegial format of the symposia allowed a homogeneous set of experts to isolate key difficulties going forward and to collectively assess the feasibility of diverse approaches.

Book Eisenstein Series and Applications

Download or read book Eisenstein Series and Applications written by Wee Teck Gan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-22 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eisenstein series are an essential ingredient in the spectral theory of automorphic forms and an important tool in the theory of L-functions. They have also been exploited extensively by number theorists for many arithmetic purposes. Bringing together contributions from areas which do not usually interact with each other, this volume introduces diverse users of Eisenstein series to a variety of important applications. With this juxtaposition of perspectives, the reader obtains deeper insights into the arithmetic of Eisenstein series. The central theme of the exposition focuses on the common structural properties of Eisenstein series occurring in many related applications.

Book Modular Forms and Special Cycles on Shimura Curves AM 161

Download or read book Modular Forms and Special Cycles on Shimura Curves AM 161 written by Stephen S. Kudla and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2006-04-04 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modular Forms and Special Cycles on Shimura Curves is a thorough study of the generating functions constructed from special cycles, both divisors and zero-cycles, on the arithmetic surface "M" attached to a Shimura curve "M" over the field of rational numbers. These generating functions are shown to be the q-expansions of modular forms and Siegel modular forms of genus two respectively, valued in the Gillet-Soulé arithmetic Chow groups of "M". The two types of generating functions are related via an arithmetic inner product formula. In addition, an analogue of the classical Siegel-Weil formula identifies the generating function for zero-cycles as the central derivative of a Siegel Eisenstein series. As an application, an arithmetic analogue of the Shimura-Waldspurger correspondence is constructed, carrying holomorphic cusp forms of weight 3/2 to classes in the Mordell-Weil group of "M". In certain cases, the nonvanishing of this correspondence is related to the central derivative of the standard L-function for a modular form of weight 2. These results depend on a novel mixture of modular forms and arithmetic geometry and should provide a paradigm for further investigations. The proofs involve a wide range of techniques, including arithmetic intersection theory, the arithmetic adjunction formula, representation densities of quadratic forms, deformation theory of p-divisible groups, p-adic uniformization, the Weil representation, the local and global theta correspondence, and the doubling integral representation of L-functions.

  • Author : Uwe Jannsen

Download or read book Motives written by Uwe Jannsen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994-02-28 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motives were introduced in the mid-1960s by Grothendieck to explain the analogies among the various cohomology theories for algebraic varieties, to play the role of the missing rational cohomology, and to provide a blueprint for proving Weil's conjectures about the zeta function of a variety over a finite field. Over the last ten years or so, researchers in various areas--Hodge theory, algebraic $K$-theory, polylogarithms, automorphic forms, $L$-functions, $ell$-adic representations, trigonometric sums, and algebraic cycles--have discovered that an enlarged (and in part conjectural) theory of ``mixed'' motives indicates and explains phenomena appearing in each area. Thus the theory holds the potential of enriching and unifying these areas. These two volumes contain the revised texts of nearly all the lectures presented at the AMS-IMS-SIAM Joint Summer Research Conference on Motives, held in Seattle, in 1991. A number of related works are also included, making for a total of forty-seven papers, from general introductions to specialized surveys to research papers.

Book Automorphic Representations of Unitary Groups in Three Variables

Download or read book Automorphic Representations of Unitary Groups in Three Variables written by Jonathan David Rogawski and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1990-09-21 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to develop the stable trace formula for unitary groups in three variables. The stable trace formula is then applied to obtain a classification of automorphic representations. This work represents the first case in which the stable trace formula has been worked out beyond the case of SL (2) and related groups. Many phenomena which will appear in the general case present themselves already for these unitary groups.
