Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Educational Effectiveness and Ineffectiveness

Download or read book Educational Effectiveness and Ineffectiveness written by Jaap Scheerens and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-20 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a critical assessment of the knowledge base on educational effectiveness, covering a period of five decades of research. It formulates a “lean” theory of good schooling, and identifies and explains instances of “ineffectiveness”, such as low effect sizes of malleable conditions, for which expectations are highly strung. The book presents a systemic outlook on educational effectiveness and improvement, as it starts out from an integrated multi-level model that comprises system level, school level and instructional conditions. It offers a classification of school improvement strategies and scenarios for system level educational improvement. Above all, the analysis is very systematic, comprehensive and strongly grounded in theory. The book includes a case study analysis of various strands of improvement-oriented educational policy in the Netherlands as an illustration of some of the arguments used.

Book Equity and Excellence in Education

Download or read book Equity and Excellence in Education written by Kris Van den Branden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-12-14 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the world, equity and excellence in education is a major issue of concern. International comparative studies such as those carried out by OECD (PISA) have launched a worldwide debate on the effectiveness of educational systems (macro level), schools (meso level) and teachers (micro level) in terms of enhancing equity and excellence. Inspired by the OECD research and spurred by national policy-making, quantitative and qualitative research studies have recently been conducted in different parts of the globe aiming to provide deeper insight into the crucial variables that have an impact on equity, excellence or both. Among the variables that have been identified as crucial in this respect are the pupils' gender and their socio-economic and linguistic background, teachers' expectations, cognitions and pedagogical approach in the classroom, parental support, financial aspects, educational policies (e.g. priority policies, multilingual policies, early start policies), and variables related to the structure of the educational structure and system (e.g. compulsory school age, comprehensive systems, support structures, system variables enhancing spread of learners). This volume aims to compile a rich collection of research-based contributions, providing a state-of-the-art resource on what we know about this topic today.

Book Effective Peer Learning

Download or read book Effective Peer Learning written by Keith Topping and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-31 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peer learning allows a positive use of differences between pupils, turning them into learning opportunities. Yet education professionals often remain unfamiliar with the principles necessary to guarantee its effectiveness. The aim of this book is to help practitioners establish well-structured and effective peer learning projects using a variety of methods. It introduces and defines cooperative learning (mutual peer interaction) and peer tutoring (directional peer interaction) – outlining general organisational principles that will help practitioners implement peer learning in either of these forms. The authors consider how to prepare and train learners to undertake their roles effectively, and how to organise and monitor the process of interaction as it is happening. They then look at how these systems actually operate in the classroom, exploring how the organisational principles work in practice and giving many practical examples. Subsequently three successive chapters consider how to structure peer interactions in cooperative learning, same-age peer tutoring and cross-age peer tutoring. Finally, the advantages and problems, and the potential and challenges, of peer learning are examined. The book should be read in stages, with each part being able to be read on its own – thus providing time for reflection. Within each part, readers can choose to focus on cooperative learning or peer tutoring. The successive focuses on definitions, general principles of implementation and practical issues of implementation should help practitioners build their skills and confidence. Many choices between methods are described, and when teachers are confident in one method they may then consider trying a new method. It is the authors' hope that the book will become a model for peer learning by sharing with readers the skills of other practitioners, and thereby helping all children to develop to their full potential.

Book Mathematics Classrooms Students Activities and Teachers Practices

Download or read book Mathematics Classrooms Students Activities and Teachers Practices written by Fabrice Vandebrouck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With cooperation of Aline Robert, Janine Rogalski, Maha Abboud-Blanchard, Claire Cazes, Monique Chappet-Pariès, Aurélie Chesnais, Christophe Hache, Julie Horoks, Eric Roditi & Nathalie Sayac. This book presents unique insights into a significant area of French research relating the learning and teaching of mathematics in school classrooms and their development. Having previously had only glimpses of this work, I have found the book fascinating in its breadth of theory, its links between epistemological, didactic and cognitive perspectives and its comprehensive treatment of student learning of mathematics, classroom activity, the work of teachers and prospective teacher development. Taking theoretical perspectives as their starting points, the authors of this volume present a rich array of theoretically embedded studies of mathematics teaching and learning in school classrooms. Throughout this book the reader is made aware of many unanswered questions and challenged to consider associated theoretical and methodological issues. For English-speaking communities who have lacked opportunity to access the French literature the book opens up a wealth of new ways of thinking about and addressing unresolved issues in mathematics learning, teaching and teacher education. I recommend it wholeheartedly! (Extract from Barbara Jaworski’s preface.)

Book Institutional Determinants of Social Inequality

Download or read book Institutional Determinants of Social Inequality written by Frédérique Autin and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2016-05-09 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the factors that create and maintain social inequities is a core question in social psychology. Research has so far focused on the role of individual stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. However, there is no such thing as a "biased" act of prejudiced individuals, structural factors in the reproduction of social inequalities. Indeed, people are immersed in a world, and that is the way forward. In this research topic, we propose to bring together the ideology and practice of the government. This can be done by the researcher, who is responsible for the work of the researcher, the researcher, the researcher, the researcher, the researcher, the researcher, the researcher and the researcher. Book Educational Markets and Segregation

Download or read book Educational Markets and Segregation written by Vincent Dupriez and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-18 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume highlights the deep issues of the educational markets and school segregation from its origins to its effects. The book discusses both global trends as well as focalized examples. It’s based on a comprehensive review of existing literature and an in-depth analysis of two educational systems: The French-speaking community in Belgium and Chile. Both contexts are characterized by a high degree of segregation, a structural environment of free choice of schools and competition between public and private schools financed with public resources. This book provides an up-to-date synthesis of scientific knowledge on the issue of segregation and rigorous analyses of recent policies aimed at reducing segregation in educational systems. It highlights the complexity of a process of change, the importance of its legitimacy among the population and the need of identifying the ethical and social justice issues surrounding school segregation. By providing a solid theoretical and empirical synthesis, this book is a great resource to students, researchers and academics in education, as well as social scientists and policy-makers.

Book Disability Diversity and Inclusive Education in Haiti

Download or read book Disability Diversity and Inclusive Education in Haiti written by Rochambeau Lainy and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-27 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines disability, diversity, and schooling exclusion in Haiti in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. Defending a social and anthropological conception of disability as a consequence of any situation that makes a subject uncomfortable and unable to live or act properly, the book explores the difficulties that disabled children face within the school system and considers how social exclusion provokes and exacerbates educational exclusion. With contributions from linguists, educational sociologists, educational psychologists, educators, and historians, the chapters focus on a range of phenomena such as the balance of languages used for teaching, gender equity, associated disorders, and the experiences of left-handed and deaf students. Ultimately, the authors demonstrate how the educational relationships built and practiced in school influence the perceptions of people with disabilities, with respect to both singular contexts and pedagogical practices. As such, it represents an important study of the relationship between school exclusion, disability, and those with precarious socio-familial conditions, and how they can be conceptualized and addressed in the context of crises. It will appeal to scholars, researchers, and academics with interests in diversity and inclusive education, pedagogy, crisis education, and educational psychology. Chapters 1, 3, 7, and 8 of this book are available for free in PDF format as Open Access from the individual product page at www.routledge.com. They have been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.

Book Ce que l cole devrait enseigner

Download or read book Ce que l cole devrait enseigner written by Roger-François Gauthier and published by Dunod. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
