Parallèlement, deux grandes problématiques – la définition géographique de la région d’une part et son développement économique d’autre part– fondent le livre, construit autour de cinq parties : « L’émergence d’une région », « Les modèles de développement », « Les limites du développement », « Territoires de l’urbain » et « Intégration et géopolitique régionales ».
