Book Art and the Camera Classic Reprint

Download or read book Art and the Camera Classic Reprint written by Antony Guest and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-07 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Art and the Camera Such matters are dealt with in a somewhat dis cursive way, without any notion of producing a cut and-dried text-book that will tell the reader exactly what to do; it is rather sought to bring his aesthetic and intellectual faculties into play on the various branches of the subject, so that there may be a stirring Of ideas with reasonable principles as their basis. Though well aware of the proverbial danger of giving reasons for critical or any other kind of judgement, I have endeavoured to do so through out, for it has seemed to me that unless the artistic impulse has a logical foundation it is very likely to go astray; and at least in finding arguments to oppose to the views expressed, the aspirant must inevitably widen his own artistic horizon. If he can be induced to think about, and to grip the meanin of the qualities that will make his work pictoria a great part of the present object will have been attained; but the book is also designed for the assistance of those who are advancing still further in the artistic use of photography. Book A Treatise on Photography Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Photography The numerous advances in the art of Photography have made it incumbent on the author to make a thorough revision of the previous editions of this work. This has not only necessitated the addition of new matter, but also the excision of some which it was felt might be omitted without detriment to the completeness of the subject. The additions have, however, considerably overbalanced the excisions, with the result that the pages have been considerably increased in number. The aim of the author has been to give a rational explanation Of most of the different phenomena to be met with in Photography, and at the same time to give sufficient practical directions to enable the student to produce a picture which should be technically good, and also to show how Photography may be made an aid to research. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Complete Photographer Obody who has once come under the spell Of the camera, and has so far penetrated into the mysteries of photography as to be able to expose with a reasonably quiet mind as to the ultimate nature of his negatives, can ever there after free himself completely from its fascination. I have been under the spell for nearly thirty years, but my camera is as good a companion as ever, and photography is as entertaining in 1914 as in 1885. And incalculably easier also. The great reduction in its difficulties and complications has made the camera vastly more popular; but at the same time it has had the curious and unforeseen result that, comparatively speaking, there are fewer amateurs to whom its use is their chief hobby. Formerly success was only to be attained by concentrating one's hole attention on the processes employed, and photography was the pursuit of a few enthusiasts. Today, while almost every one photographs, there has not been SO vast an increase in the number of enthusiasts, although the increase has been a large one. Many have been led by its facility to take it up casually, and have found that even in that way it will furnish a great deal Of pleasure and Of attractive and useful occupation. Some Of these are led further and further in its pursuit. They find that in spite of hand-cameras, mechanical development, and gaslight papers, there is still plenty of scope for the exercise Of personal Skill there are plenty Of difficulties to confront and triumphs to achieve, and that as a pastime an inexhaustible field opens out before them as they proceed. To such a field the later chapters of this book may serve as an introduction. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Picture Making by Photography Classic Reprint

Download or read book Picture Making by Photography Classic Reprint written by Henry Peach Robinson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-20 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Picture-Making by Photography Not always sufficiently distinguish between his own personality and that of the Roman Empire. I am afraid that the following chapters may be open to a similar objection. I fear that a great deal more will be found concerning my own personality and productions than a modest writer would willingly admit; but this cannot easily be avoided. The nature of the information to be conveyed, and the lessons to be inculcated, demand that I should teach the results of my own experience, and suggest that the pictures which have been the outcome of that experience would be the most suitable illustra tions. It will be evident that pictures which have been actually produced by photography will better show the peculiarities and limitations of the art than any other method of illustration. Book First Steps in Photography Classic Reprint

Download or read book First Steps in Photography Classic Reprint written by J. C. H. Wallsgrove and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Steps in Photography The preparation of the fourth edition of this little book has been undertaken with some amount of pleasure on account of the very favourable reception accorded to its immediate predecessor - respecting its practical and simple explanations - by the Press and by Beginners who have found its teachings of great use to them. The new edition has been more profusely illustrated with drawings lettered in such a manner that they may be easily connected with the text. From this cause it has been necessary to practically re-write the whole work. This feature should be of great assistance to the reader, as it renders the descriptions so much clearer. The drawings have been made without any intention of illustrating any special make of apparatus, but to explain the structural arrangements and to show the principles underlying the various movements. To be successful in the practice of photography it is essential that it is not undertaken in any haphazard sort of manner. It requires thought, system and cleanliness. Results do not so much depend upon the apparatus as upon the individual using it. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Fundamentals of Photography Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Fundamentals of Photography Classic Reprint written by C. E. K. Mees and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fundamentals of Photography While a knowledge of the theory of photography is by no means essential for success in the making of pictures, most photographers must have felt a curiosity as to the scientific foundations of the art and have wished to know more of the materials which they use, and of the reactions which those materials undergo when exposed to light and when treated with the chemical baths by which the finished result is obtained. This book has been written with the object of providing an elementary account of the theoretical foundations of photography, in language which can be followed by readers without any specialized scientific training. It is hope that it will interest photographers in the scientific side of their work and aid them in getting, through attention to the technical manipulation of their materials, the best results which can be obtained. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Naturalistic Photography for Students of the Art Let us see what this cool young goddess, born of art and science, has been doing these fifty years. In the fields Of science she has been most busy. She has been giving us photographs 'of the moon, the stars, and even of the nebula. She.ba's recorded eclipses and a transit of Venus for us; She has drawn, too, the sun's corona, and registered those great volcanic explosions that take place there periodically. She has shown us that there are stars which no tele scope can find, and she has in another form registered for us the composition of the sun and of many of the planets; and now she 1s busy mapping out the heavens. Like an all powerful goddess, she plays with the planets and records on our plates, with delicate taps, the constellations. She runs through the vast space of the kosmos doing our biddings with a precision and delicacy never equalled - in short she is fast becoming the right hand of the astronomer. Book The A B C of Artistic Photography in Theory and Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book The A B C of Artistic Photography in Theory and Practice Classic Reprint written by Arthur James Anderson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The A B C of Artistic Photography in Theory and Practice Therefore, instead of starting where D. 0. Hill left off some sixty years past, and going on to conquer the method of pure photography, the picture makers first employed themselves in the imitation of Vic torian Academicians; then in the combination of portions of various negatives in one print and lastly in manipulating effects by the oil or gum process that might have been attained with greater ease and certainty by stump or paint-brush. During this time the pursuit of plain, straightforward photography was principally neglected. Now, thanks to the steadfastness of certain English purists and the influence of the American Photo Secession, there are signs of a return to the methods of D. 0. Hill. This is surely the commencement of a real photographic advance towards honest Art. Unfortunately, there is a gap between the photo graphic writers oi the older school and the purely practical or purely artistic writers of the present, and I am making a tentative effort to fill this gap until the new movement breeds its own literature.
