Download or read book L Arginine written by Benjamin L. Soto and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arginine is one of the amino acids with multiple metabolic pathways. Apart from its role in the composition of proteins, it is the biosynthetic precursor of nitric oxide, creatine, agmatine, proline, homoarginine and polyamines. In chapter One of this book, the reasons for and the possible advantages and disadvantages of nutritional arginine supplementation are critically discussed in the light of established biochemical results. Chapter Two summarises the position and importance of the L-arginine in nitric oxide homeostasis, disbalance of which can be one of the causes of many acute and chronic diseases. Chapter Three provides a brief overview of L-arginine and cardiometabolic health. Chapter Four discusses the use of novel synthetic biodegradable arginine-rich implantable biomaterials and devices for human body repair and reconstruction. Chapter Five reviews beneficial effects of L-arginine supplementation in controlling blood pressure. Chapter Six reviews the recent information about the advantages of using L-Arginine as a dietary supplement to improve reproductive function in certain female domestic animals, such as the ewe, sow, and mare, as well as in female rats and humans.

Download or read book Arginine Amino Acid written by Nathan L. Jacobs and published by Nova Biomedical Books. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arginine is a conditionally nonessential amino acid, meaning most of the time it can be manufactured by the human body, and does not need to be obtained directly through the diet. Book Diagnostic Function Tests in Chemical Pathology

Download or read book Diagnostic Function Tests in Chemical Pathology written by P.T. Lascelles and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1990-03-31 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written for hospital doctors, nurses, biochemists, medi cal laboratory scientific officers and phlebotomists involved with the biochemical investigation of patients. It is hoped, also, that general practitioners and medical students will find it of help. Whilst the vast majority of biochemical tests assess the level of constituents in blood and urine at a given point in time, an impor tant additional parameter is the assessment of physiological reserve function by means of loading tests, prOlonged fasting, exercise and clearance studies. The protocol and interpretation of response of each of these stress tests form the main basis of the text. An attempt has been made to be reasonably comprehensive in the range of tests described; hence, not only have some rather older ones been re tained, but also some very recently introduced ones included. It is appreciated that practice varies widely from laboratory to labora tory with respect to protocol, sample collection, methodology and quotation of reference ranges, and no doubt also from clinician to clinician, particularly regarding interpretation of results. In paedi atric work, micromethods will demand much smaller volumes of blood than those stated here, which relate generally to adult medi cine. The account, therefore, must be seen as a guide to practice rather than as a recipe; it is in no wayan attempt to standardise procedures, which depend on the local requirements.

Book NO More Heart Disease

Download or read book NO More Heart Disease written by Louis Ignarro and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2006-01-24 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Louis Ignarro discovered "the atom" of cardiovascular health--a tiny molecule called Nitric Oxide. NO, as it is known by chemists, is a signaling molecule produced by the body, and is a vasodilator that helps control blood flow to every part of the body. Dr. Ignarro's findings led to the development of Viagra. Nitric Oxide has a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system as well. NO relaxes and enlarges the blood vessels, prevents blood clots that trigger strokes and heart attacks, and regulates blood pressure and the accumulation of plaque in the blood vessels. Dr. Ignarro's current research indicates that Nitric Oxide may help lower cholesterol by facilitating the actions of statin drugs like Lipitor. The goal of the regimen presented in NO More Heart Disease is to age proof the cardiovascular system, keeping the vascular network clean and elastic through enhanced NO productivity. The plan is easy-to-follow without extreme lifestyle adjustments, involving taking supplements to stimulate Nitric Oxide production, incorporating NO friendly food into the diet, and a moderate exercise program.

Researches suggested the possibility of using L-arginine to control the cardiovascular risk factors in the primary prevention of atherosclerosis and its clinical outcomes before development of irreversible vascular damage. In addition researches suggested that supplementation of L-arginine along with regular therapy may be beneficial to the patients with ischemic myocardial syndromes.

Book 2 Oxoglutarate Dependent Oxygenases

Download or read book 2 Oxoglutarate Dependent Oxygenases written by Christopher J Schofield and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2015-05-06 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the discovery of the first examples of 2-oxoglutarate-dependent oxygenase-catalysed reactions in the 1960s, a remarkably broad diversity of alternate reactions and substrates has been revealed, and extensive advances have been achieved in our understanding of the structures and catalytic mechanisms. These enzymes are important agrochemical targets and are being pursued as therapeutic targets for a wide range of diseases including cancer and anemia. This book provides a central source of information that summarizes the key features of the essential group of 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases and related enzymes. Given the numerous recent advances and biomedical interest in the field, this book aims to unite the latest research for those already working in the field as well as to provide an introduction for those newly approaching the topic, and for those interested in translating the basic science into medicinal and agricultural benefits. The book begins with four broad chapters that highlight critical aspects, including an overview of possible catalytic reactions, structures and mechanisms. The following seventeen chapters focus on carefully selected topics, each written by leading experts in the area. Readers will find explanations of rapidly evolving research, from the chemistry of isopenicillin N synthase to the oxidation mechanism of 5-methylcytosine in DNA by ten-eleven-translocase oxygenases.

Book Analytical Profiles of Drug Substances and Excipients

Download or read book Analytical Profiles of Drug Substances and Excipients written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1996-08-30 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the official compendia define a drug substance as to identity, purity, strength, and quality, they normally do not provide other physical or chemical data, nor do they list methods of synthesis or pathways of physical or biological degradation and metabolism. Such information is scattered throughout the scientific literature and the files of pharmaceutical laboratories. Edited by the Associate Director of Analytical Research and Development for the AmericanAssociation of Pharmaceutical Scientists, Analytical Profiles of Drug Substances and Excipients brings this information together into one source. The scope of the series has recently been expanded to include profiles of excipient materials.
