Book excerpt: L'anesthésie loco-régionale (ALR) du nerf alvéolaire inférieur est un geste clinique qui présente des indications spécifiques et qui ne peut être substitué par d'autres techniques anesthésiques dans certaines situations cliniques particulières, notamment en cas de pathologie pulpaire irréversible ou d'anomalie de structure de type Hypominéralisation Molaires Incisives (MIH) au niveau d'une molaire mandibulaire. Elle procure de plus une analgésie de grande qualité. Toutefois, cette technique anesthésique peut susciter une certaine appréhension, en particulier lorsqu'elle est utilisée chez l'enfant, du fait des difficultés inhérentes à sa réalisation (variabilités anatomiques inter-individuelles, modification de la localisation anatomique du foramen mandibulaire en fonction de la croissance, coopération de l'enfant...). De plus, il existe un risque significatif d'échec anesthésique si cette technique n'est pas réalisée de façon adéquate. Le but de notre travail a été d'évaluer chez les externes en chirurgie dentaire les facteurs d'anxiété associés à la réalisation de ce geste chez l'enfant puis de mettre au point une séance de simulation médicale destinée aux étudiants précliniques en s'appuyant sur l'utilisation d'un modèle pédagogique et en les préparant sur le plan technique à la réalisation de ce geste anesthésique.
