This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Diana E. H. Russell, acclaimed author and researcher on sexual violence against girls and women, and co-editor Roberta Harmes have produced a groundbreaking volume on femicide, the killing of females by males because they are female. Dr. Russell has contributed seven provocative original chapters to Femicide in Global Perspective. This anthology includes chapters on woman-killing in Algeria, Australia, Canada, China, Israel, South Africa, other Southern African countries, the United States, and brief testimony from other nations. Together, the authors brilliantly demonstrate how naming femicide helps to expose and bring attention to this most extreme yet neglected form of violence against women, and the urgent need to put femicide on local, national and international action agendas.

Book L imaginaire Du D moniaque Dans la Septante

Download or read book L imaginaire Du D moniaque Dans la Septante written by Anna Angelini and published by Supplements to the Journal for. This book was released on 2021 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a thorough analysis of demons in the Hebrew Bible and Septuagint in the wider context of the ancient Near East and the Greek world. Taking a fresh and innovative angle of enquiry, Anna Angelini investigates continuities and changes in the representation of divine powers in Hellenistic Judaism, thereby revealing the role of the Greek translation of the Bible in shaping ancient demonology, angelology, and pneumatology. Combining philological and semantic analyses with a historical approach and anthropological insights, the author both develops a new method for analyzing religious categories within biblical traditions and sheds new light on the importance of the Septuagint for the history of ancient Judaism.

Book Coercion and Punishment in Long Term Perspectives

Download or read book Coercion and Punishment in Long Term Perspectives written by Joan McCord and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-09-28 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children must learn to act appropriately, in ways that differ from society to society and from context to context. The question of how best to socialize children so that they can function successfully has fascinated educators and psychologists for centuries. In a world in which children exhibit levels of violence that are strikingly un-childlike, the question of how to bring children up takes on an immediacy for parents and psychologists. Does physical punishment prevent further outbreaks of violent behaviour? Are there ways of influencing children so that punishment will not be necessary? Drawing upon rich, longitudinal data, the contributors to this volume examine the benefits and costs of coercion and punishment, considering such issues as mental health, antisocial and criminal behaviour, substance abuse, and issues related to measurement and prediction. They look at coercion among peers, aggressive behavior in boys and girls, different parenting styles and effects of home context. The volume draws together evidence about coercion and punishment that have appeared in disparate literatures, and it raises questions about easy assumptions regarding them. It will be a useful tool for psychologists, criminologists, social workers, child-care workers, and educators.
