Book excerpt: California popular culture has deeply impacted the world throughout the 20th century, and the East/West dialog provides inexhaustible ground for inspiration. Today, the cultural stylizations of hot rod and kustom kulture are part of a nostalgic mystique that is being adopted by a growing number of young people in Japan, who see Kustom Kulture as transcendent, powerful, and most importantly, defining. The Japanese visionaries represented in this book continue to embrace, digest, perfect and transform powerful sub- and mainstream realms of expression. Mike McCabe (TM)s photographs and words are a fresh and amazing testament to this process of reinvention. * Bilingual English and Japanese

Book Kustom Kemps of America

Download or read book Kustom Kemps of America written by Jerry Titus and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (from the book) The year was 1978 and I was sitting in the back booth of the Pizza Hut in Mulvane, Kansas, splitting a deep pan with my good friend, Darryl Starbird. Our friendship was close, and I had always respected his opinion on just about anything to do with the automobile, and especially the “kustom” vehicle. Not only is Darryl a champ at building kustom creations, he is also one of the top auto show producers in the U.S. For some 21 years I had been in the shadow of this high-energy, often unbelievable, man helping him build cars and produce car shows–a schooling that isn’t available in any six-month course or college anywhere. I had cruised with him on the high roads, and crashed with him on the low shoulders. Believe me, auto show producing is not for the weak or conservative. But my interest was up, boosted by a recent writeup on ‘49-’51 Mercs, and front cover spread of a chopped ‘51 Mercury, by Street Rodder magazine, which at the time was predominantly a “pre-’48” street rod magazine. Someone shared an interest I felt I might be the[...]”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many are the books on Japan they mostly follow a prescription, reviewing different aspects of a country which is strangely unlike the lands of Christendom, though it has entered into economic competition with them. I have here tried to present something rather different. Encouraged by the fact that Japan in Recent Times, 1912-1926, has been found useful by other makers of books as well as by readers who sought to increase their knowledge, I have attempted here to present a sequel though it is only part of the same story in the sense that it continues the record. A reign that seemed likely to be quiet and humdrum has proved so full of happenings that it has been difficult, even at slightly greater length, to record these eleven years as adequately as the previous sixteen. But for readers who would like the facts rather than my gloss upon them, here is a book full of them. During ten of the eleven years I was seldom absent from the editorial desk of the Japan Chronicle., so there was little about current events that did not come my way, and I have tried to select from the mass the most significant and most closely related. Sometimes so many things were happening at once that it has been impossible to observe a strict chronology and the subject rather than the date has had to be considered. As in my previous book I have adhered to the Japanese custom of putting the surname first and the personal name after also, where titles are concerned, I have used the highest attained instead of explaining that the Mr. of one day was the Baron of the next.

Book Japan s New Middle Class

Download or read book Japan s New Middle Class written by Ezra F. Vogel and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2013-07-18 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic study on the sociology of Japan remains the only in-depth treatment of the Japanese middle class. Now in a fiftieth-anniversary edition that includes a new foreword by William W. Kelly, this seminal work paints a rich and complex picture of the life of the salaryman and his family. In 1958, Suzanne and Ezra Vogel embedded themselves in a Tokyo suburb, living among and interviewing six middle-class families regularly for a year. Tracing the rapid postwar economic growth that led to hiring large numbers of workers who were provided lifelong employment, the authors show how this phenomenon led to a new social class—the salaried men and their families. It was a well-educated group that prepared their children rigorously for the same successful corporate or government jobs they held. Secure employment and a rising standard of living enabled this new middle class to set the dominant pattern of social life that influenced even those who could not share it, a pattern that remains fundamental to Japanese society today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: .NET technology was introduced by Microsoft, to catch the market from the SUN's Java. Few years back, Microsoft had only VC++ and VB to compete with Java, but Java was catching the market very fast. With the world depending more and more on the Internet/Web and java related tools becoming the best choice for the web applications, Microsoft seemed to be loosing the battle. Thousands of programmers moved to java from VC++ and VB. To recover the market, Microsoft announced .NET. .NET framework comes with a single class library. And thats all programmers need to learn!! Whether they write the code in C# or VB.NET or J#, it doesn't matter, you just use the .NET class library. There is no classes specific to any language. There is nothing more you can do in a language, which you can't do in any other .NET language. You can write code in C# or VB.NET with the same number of lines of code, same performance and same efficiency, because everyone uses same .NET class library.

Book The History of Labour Management in Japan

Download or read book The History of Labour Management in Japan written by Hiroshi Hazama and published by Springer. This book was released on 1997-05-13 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An era of economic globalisation and inward investment has seen much interest in Japanese labour management techniques. The first English edition of this 1964 classic of Japanese economics corrects the misunderstandings which often prevail in this debate, by providing the necessary historical context from the Meiji restoration to the second world war. Professor Hazama debunks the myth that Japanese-style management is inherited from her feudal past, showing the impact of businesses imported from the west after reunification in 1867-68 and how these were amalgamated with a range of Japanese traditions.
