Book Cultures in Dialogue

Download or read book Cultures in Dialogue written by Annemarie Profanter and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. In an aim to promote an interdisciplinary and intercultural scientific dialogue young graduates of diverse disciplines have tackled the task of intensive investigation into «cultures in dialogue» as it relates to issues of international as well as regional relevance. In an attempt to motivate dialogue across language barriers all contributions provide abstracts in the three languages: German, Italian and English. The descriptive part of the collected edition provides an overview of diverse aspects of the phenomenon of a multicultural society in South Tyrol. The constructive aspect of the volume pursues the following goal: it creates moments of encounter, of intersubjective as well as interdisciplinary dialogue and lays the basis for a theoretical foundation of practical forms of dialogic problem analysis and problem solving.

Book Dialogue and the New Cosmopolitanism

Download or read book Dialogue and the New Cosmopolitanism written by Fred Dallmayr and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-11-28 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dialogue and the New Cosmopolitanism: Conversations with Edward Demenchonok stands in opposition to the doctrine that might makes right and that the purpose of politics is to establish domination over others rather than justice and the good life for all. In the pursuit of the latter goal, the book stresses the importance of dialogue with participants who take seriously the views and interests of others and who seek to reach a fair solution. In this sense, the book supports the idea of cosmopolitanism, which—by contrast to empire—involves multi-lateral cooperation and thus the quest for a just cosmopolis. The international contributors to this volume, with their varied perspectives, are all committed to this same quest. Edited by Fred Dallmayr, the chapters take the form of conversations with Edward Demenchonok, a well-known practitioner of international and cross-cultural philosophy. The conversations are structured in parts that stress the philosophical, anthropological, cultural, and ethical dimensions of global dialogue. In our conflicted world, it is inspiring to find so many authors from different places agreeing on a shared vision.

Book Intercultural Dialogue

  • Author : Fred Dallmayr
  • Publisher : Cambridge Scholars Publishing

  • Pages : 410 pages

Download or read book Intercultural Dialogue written by Fred Dallmayr and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2015-01-12 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intercultural Dialogue: In Search of Harmony in Diversity offers a philosophical analysis of the issues surrounding cultural diversity and dialogical relationships among cultures as an alternative to “culture wars” and hegemonic globalization. It examines the ideas of dialogue and harmony as expressed in Daoism, Confucianism, Indian, and Ancient Greek philosophical traditions, as well as in contemporary European and Latin-American philosophies. Drawing on the works of Laozi, Confucius, Plato, Kant, and Gandhi, the book shows the importance of intercultural dialogue and the globalization of philosophy. It asserts that intercultural dialogue should have inter-philosophical global dialogue as its epistemological and ontological foundation. Intercultural philosophy elaborates on the conceptualization of philosophy as culturally embedded. Attention is paid to Bakhtin’s dialogism and its contemporary elaboration in the phenomenology of indirect speech, synergic anthropology, and the theory of transculture. The book offers a critical analysis of world problems. Their possible solutions require a more dialogically-oriented and humane transformation of society, aiming for a cosmopolitan order of law and peace.

Book Religions and Dialogue

Download or read book Religions and Dialogue written by Wolfram Weiße and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2014 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Responding to plurality is a demanding task. Nonetheless it is one of the challenges that European countries are facing today. Over the past decades, the social and religious make-up of Central Europe has changed, and this has led to resentment and fears of mass immigration, social disintegration and the emergence of parallel societies. However, we also find empirical proof that prejudice is lowest where there is direct contact. Therefore, there appears to be an increasing need for more dialogue in order to make the stranger less strange, the unknown known, the other no longer entirely other. This is equally true in academic research: There is a definite need, yet research on questions of interreligious dialogue remains in its infancy throughout the various disciplines engaged in it. The project 'Religion and Dialogue in Modern Societies' (ReDi) that started at the Academy of World Religions at the Hamburg University in 2011 seeks to contribute to remedying this deficit. Like the ReDi-Project, this book looks at dialogue from different perspectives. It includes both theoretical and empirical approaches as well as a variety of theological viewpoints on a theology of plurality and dialogue from the perspective of different religions.

Book Dialogue and Conflict on Religion Studies of Classroom Interaction in European Countries

Download or read book Dialogue and Conflict on Religion Studies of Classroom Interaction in European Countries written by Ina ter Avest and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2009 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regarding teaching about religions and worldviews, there is a gap between the ambitions of educational policies and our knowledge about what really happens in the classroom. Research on classroom interaction about religion is not very far developed, either nationally or as international and as comparative research. There is a growing awareness, however, that research on pupils’ perspectives on religion in education is needed in order to develop sustainable approaches for future education, and this book is a contribution to this research. The classroom can be seen as an arena both for learning and for micro-politics. This arena is shaped, and sometimes challenged and restricted, or even curtailed, by the wider societal and political context. In this book we present studies of classroom interaction that focus on the micro-sociological level of research. The studies presented open up a rather unexplored field of international comparative research on religion in education and the role of diversity for classroom interaction, giving deeper insights into what happens in classrooms, displaying varieties of interactive patterns and relating these to their specific contexts.
