Book The Routledge Encyclopedia of Modern Asian Educators

Download or read book The Routledge Encyclopedia of Modern Asian Educators written by Shin'ichi Suzuki and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is a unique and major resource on modern educators of Asia and their contribution to Asian educational development through the 19th and 20th centuries when modernization started in Asia. In one comprehensive volume, this handbook covers a selection of modern educators from East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia – and their contributions to the development of modern education, practically and theoretically. The diversity of cultures and religion as well as the multilinguistic and ethnic context have made Asian modernization unique and complex. Educational modernization in Asia reflected this historical context in many ways and resulted in the diverse forms of learning, teaching, institutions, and administration. Modern Asian educators compiled in this handbook represent various fields of Asian society: not only educational but cultural and social fields like academia, politics, economics, religion, literature, theatre, fine arts, and civic genres including the media. Through this Handbook, readers may discover the individual modern educators, male and female, and their contributions to Asian educational modernization. All of them were committed to the cause of education for children, youth, adults and in particular women. In addition, this volume has an extraordinarily rich subject index which can be an excellent guide and introduction to information touching divergent dynamics of educational developments in modern Asia. This insightful volume is perfect for students and researchers working on history of education, comparative education and educational development, particularly for those interested in Asian contexts.

Book The Canon in Southeast Asian Literature

Download or read book The Canon in Southeast Asian Literature written by David Smyth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literary canon is one of the most lively areas of debate in contemporary literary studies. This set of essays is both timely and original in its focus on the canon in South-East Asian literatures, covering Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. They vary in focus, from the broad panoramic survey of trends in a national literature to very specific discussions of the role of individuals in shaping a canon or the place of a particular text within a tradition, and from contemporary to traditional literature. They include discussions of the development of prose fiction, censorship and artistic freedom, the role of westerners in codifying indigenous literatures, the writing of literary history, the development of literary criticism and indigenous aesthetics.

Download or read book MAJALAH DIGITAL ARMORY REBORN 36 EN written by ARMORY REBORN and published by PT. ARMORY REBORN INDONESIA. This book was released on with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soursop Juice Welcome back, friends and loyal supporters of Armory Reborn! Hope you are all healthy, happy and enthusiastic. President Joko Widodo's visit to meet US President Joe Biden in Washington on November 13, 2023, has resulted in several new agreements. Marking a historic new phase in bilateral relations between the two countries, the two leaders upgraded US-Indonesia relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Biden thanked Jokowi for Indonesia's leadership in ASEAN and underscored the US commitment to deepen cooperation in Southeast Asia and with Indonesia. Armory Reborn reviews various important aspects of Jokowi's visit, which also carries a message from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation regarding the Palestinian issue. When this foreword was written, a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel was already in effect in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. The ceasefire was realized after a military confrontation between the Islamist Hamas faction and the Israeli military, which claimed the lives of more than 14,000 civilians in Gaza. In this regard, Armory Reborn presents several scenarios about the future of the Gaza Strip, after the military confrontation (temporarily) ends. The Gaza issue certainly cannot be separated from the peace negotiation process between Palestine and Israel. Many complex issues relate to the future of Gaza and Palestine. The existence of the Islamist Hamas faction and the nationalist Fatah faction, which have difficulty uniting within the Palestinian Authority, has made the peace process stall. Israel is taking advantage of the split Palestinian leadership to continue its territorial expansion agenda in the West Bank, which according to international law is the territory of the Palestinian Authority. For those of you who are interested in aerospace technology, we provide an article about the failed launch of Starship, a spacecraft made by SpaceX. This failure occurred in the second test flight, in mid-November 2023. Starship is part of SpaceX's ambitious program, founded by Elon Musk, to send people and goods to the moon, and then to the planet Mars. We hope that Armory Reborn friends can enjoy all these articles. Satrio Arismunandar Editor in chief

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thai Tea Armory Reborn! May you all always be healthy, happy and enthusiastic. On October 5, 2023, our Indonesian National Army (TNI) will be exactly 78 years old. Times have changed a lot, the geopolitical constellation has changed, the strategic environment has changed. So, the threats and challenges faced by the TNI have also changed. In this regard, all Armory Reborn editors wish the TNI a happy birthday. Hopefully the TNI can continue to develop, become more advanced and able to overcome all these challenges. In relation to changes in geopolitics and the strategic environment, the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India, has an important meaning. India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is considered successful in taking advantage of the G20 Summit moment to raise India’s image as a voice for the interests of developing countries, which are usually called the Global South. As was the case at last year’s G20 Summit in Bali, Vladimir Putin, the leader of Russia, was not present in person at the big event of the New Delhi G20 Summit. Russia is being targeted by the United States and its allies because of Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, which led to a protracted war on mainland Europe. This war drastically reduced Russia’s weapons reserves. So, Putin’s meeting with North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong-un has attracted the attention of observers. Russia and North Korea are both being ostracized by the West. It is not surprising that Putin and Kim Jong-un help each other, including with arms and military technology transactions. For those of you who are interested in defense technology, we provide an article about submarine crew rescue vehicles. The Indonesian Navy had a bitter and sad experience with the sinking of the KRI Nanggala-402 submarine two years ago in the Bali Strait. At that time, the entire crew of the submarine died. In 2021, Indonesia did not have adequate equipment to carry out emergency rescue operations for submarine crews. So now Indonesia will buy a sophisticated submarine rescue vehicle made by U.K. We hope that Armory Reborn friends can enjoy all these articles. Satrio Arismunandar Editor in chief

Book What Do We Need Men For

Download or read book What Do We Need Men For written by E. Jean Carroll and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2019-07-02 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As seen on the cover of New York Magazine, America's longest running advice columnist goes on the road to speak to women about hideous men and whether we need them. "Carroll's lively prose careens in constant pursuit of pleasure...indefatigably funny and full of life." –Lindsay Zoladz, The Ringer “Darkly humorous and deadly serious.” –Sibbie O'Sullivan, Washington Post “A compulsively interesting feminist memoir.” –Virginia Heffernan, Slate "Somehow hilarious, in the way that only E. Jean could have written it" –Leigh Haber, Oprah Magazine “Roving, curious, compassionate, whimsical.” –Megan Garber, The Atlantic When E. Jean Carroll—possibly the liveliest woman in the world and author of the “Ask E. Jean” advice column in Elle Magazine, realized that her eight million readers and question-writers all seemed to have one thing in common—problems caused by men—she hit the road. Crisscrossing the country with her blue-haired poodle, Lewis Carroll, E. Jean stopped in every town named after a woman between Eden, Vermont and Tallulah, Louisiana to ask women the crucial question: What Do We Need Men For? E. Jean gave her rollicking road trip a sly, stylish turn when she deepened the story, creating a list called “The Most Hideous Men of My Life,” and began to reflect on her own sometimes very dark history with the opposite sex. What advice would she have given to her past selves—as Miss Cheerleader USA and Miss Indiana University? Or as the fearless journalist, television host, and eventual advice columnist she became? E. Jean intertwines the stories of the fascinating people she meets on her road trip with her “horrible history with the male sex” (including mafia bosses, media titans, boyfriends, husbands, a serial killer, and a president), creating a decidedly dark yet hopeful, hilarious, and thrilling narrative. Her answer to the question What Do We Need Men For? will shock men and delight women.

Download or read book Systemic Silencing written by Katharine E. McGregor and published by University of Wisconsin Pres. This book was released on 2023-08-29 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The system of prostitution imposed and enforced by the Japanese military during its wartime occupation of several countries in East and Southeast Asia is today well-known and uniformly condemned. Transnational activist movements have sought to recognize and redress survivors of this World War II-era system, euphemistically known as “comfort women,” for decades, with a major wave beginning in the 1990s. However, Indonesian survivors, and even the system’s history in Indonesia to begin with, have largely been sidelined, even within the country itself. Here, Katharine E. McGregor not only untangles the history of the system during the war, but also unpacks the context surrounding the slow and faltering efforts to address it. With careful attention to the historical, social, and political conditions surrounding sexual violence in Indonesia, supported by exhaustive research and archival diligence, she uncovers a critical piece of Indonesian history and the ongoing efforts to bring it to the public eye. Critically, she establishes that the transnational part of activism surrounding victims of the system is both necessary and fraught, a complexity of geopolitics and international relationships on one hand and a question of personal networks, linguistic differences, and cultural challenges on the other.

Book Asian Comics

    Book Details:
  • Author : John A. Lent
  • Publisher : Univ. Press of Mississippi
  • Release : 2015-01-05
  • ISBN : 1626742944
  • Pages : 907 pages

Download or read book Asian Comics written by John A. Lent and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2015-01-05 with total page 907 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grand in its scope, Asian Comics dispels the myth that, outside of Japan, the continent is nearly devoid of comic strips and comic books. Relying on his fifty years of Asian mass communication and comic art research, during which he traveled to Asia at least seventy-eight times and visited many studios and workplaces, John A. Lent shows that nearly every country had a golden age of cartooning and has experienced a recent rejuvenation of the art form. As only Japanese comics output has received close and by now voluminous scrutiny, Asian Comics tells the story of the major comics creators outside of Japan. Lent covers the nations and regions of Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Organized by regions of East, Southeast, and South Asia, Asian Comics provides 178 black-and-white illustrations and detailed information on comics of sixteen countries and regions—their histories, key creators, characters, contemporary status, problems, trends, and issues. One chapter harkens back to predecessors of comics in Asia, describing scrolls, paintings, books, and puppetry with humorous tinges, primarily in China, India, Indonesia, and Japan. The first overview of Asian comic books and magazines (both mainstream and alternative), graphic novels, newspaper comic strips and gag panels, plus cartoon/humor magazines, Asian Comics brims with facts, fascinating anecdotes, and interview quotes from many pioneering masters, as well as younger artists.
