The “Hi! Korean” series is comprised of 10 Student’s Books (4 beginner, 4 intermediate, and 2 advanced) and an additional “Grammar and Vocabulary Study Book,” as well as 10 Workbooks (4 beginner, 4 intermediate, and 2 advanced), which are sold separately. “Hi! Korean 4B” is designed for learners to engage in area-by-area study of topics related to information and social issues, developing outward from simple communication so that speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities can be completed on in-depth topics. Additionally, following from level 3, "Today's Expression" and lessons on idioms have been included to expand vocabulary, and for learners preparing for the TOPIK exam, each unit can be completed with practical writing activities. ● Systematically improve all language functions. ● Learn the grammar and vocabulary you’ve studied in-depth by practicing the rich and diverse functions presented in the main textbooks and workbooks. ● Study Korean with convenience using the “Grammar and Vocabulary Study Book” and sound files available via QR codes. 도서에 제공하는 MP3(CD) 음원 및 부가자료는 다락원 홈페이지(www.darakwon.co.kr)에서 무료 다운로드 가능합니다. Book Without You There Is No Us

Download or read book Without You There Is No Us written by Suki Kim and published by Crown. This book was released on 2015-10-13 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A haunting account of teaching English to the sons of North Korea's ruling class during the last six months of Kim Jong-il's reign Every day, three times a day, the students march in two straight lines, singing praises to Kim Jong-il and North Korea: Without you, there is no motherland. Without you, there is no us. It is a chilling scene, but gradually Suki Kim, too, learns the tune and, without noticing, begins to hum it. It is 2011, and all universities in North Korea have been shut down for an entire year, the students sent to construction fields—except for the 270 students at the all-male Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST), a walled compound where portraits of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il look on impassively from the walls of every room, and where Suki has gone undercover as a missionary and a teacher. Over the next six months, she will eat three meals a day with her young charges and struggle to teach them English, all under the watchful eye of the regime. Life at PUST is lonely and claustrophobic, especially for Suki, whose letters are read by censors and who must hide her notes and photographs not only from her minders but from her colleagues—evangelical Christian missionaries who don't know or choose to ignore that Suki doesn't share their faith. As the weeks pass, she is mystified by how easily her students lie, unnerved by their obedience to the regime. At the same time, they offer Suki tantalizing glimpses of their private selves—their boyish enthusiasm, their eagerness to please, the flashes of curiosity that have not yet been extinguished. She in turn begins to hint at the existence of a world beyond their own—at such exotic activities as surfing the Internet or traveling freely and, more dangerously, at electoral democracy and other ideas forbidden in a country where defectors risk torture and execution. But when Kim Jong-il dies, and the boys she has come to love appear devastated, she wonders whether the gulf between her world and theirs can ever be bridged. Without You, There Is No Us offers a moving and incalculably rare glimpse of life in the world's most unknowable country, and at the privileged young men she calls "soldiers and slaves."

Korean” is a series of integrated Korean coursebooks created for foreign learners who have started studying Korean because they like Korean culture. The contents of these textbooks include the latest trends in Korean culture, and various activities are presented so that learners can master the 4 areas of language; speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The composition of the series is consistent from the beginner level to advanced, with speaking, listening, reading, and writing presented organically, and listening and reading presented separately by unit, organized to increase concentration of learning in each area. In particular, in the “Step Up!” section, which moves away from activities centered on simply answering questions, learners can develop their communication skills by expanding on what they learned through speaking and writing activities. “Hi! Korean 2B” is the first level 2 book of the series, designed for learners to start studying Korean in earnest after finishing level 1. It allows for learners to study level 2 grammar and vocabulary expressions within the themes of Korean society and culture. In particular, by studying expressions related to public service that are encountered in school life, learners can become able to use these expressions appropriately in real life. Book Korean English

Download or read book Korean English written by Glenn Hadikin and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The English language is changing every day and it is us – the individual speakers and writers – that drive those changes in small ways by choosing to use certain strings of words over others. This book discusses and describes some of the choices made by speakers from South Korea by examining the similarities and differences between two Korean communities: one in England and one in South Korea. The book has two overall aims. Firstly, it is intended to begin a discussion about phraseology and Lexical Priming and how these theoretical concepts relate and play out in the context of a New English. Secondly, it provides a model of how a language variety can be explored by detailed analysis of short strings. It delves into a range of areas from World Englishes to phraseology and formulaic language and would be suitable for students, teachers and researchers in all these areas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This in-depth exploration of culture, media, and protest follows South Korea’s transition from the Korean War to the start of the political struggles and socioeconomic transformations of the Park Chung Hee era. Although the post–Korean War years are commonly remembered as a time of crisis and disarray, Charles Kim contends that they also created a formative and productive juncture in which South Koreans reworked pre-1945 constructions of national identity to meet the political and cultural needs of postcolonial nation-building. He explores how state ideologues and mainstream intellectuals expanded their efforts by elevating the nation’s youth as the core protagonist of a newly independent Korea. By designating students and young men and women as the hope and exemplars of the new nation-state, the discursive stage was set for the remarkable outburst of the April Revolution in 1960. Kim’s interpretation of this seminal event underscores student participants’ recasting of anticolonial resistance memories into South Korea’s postcolonial politics. This pivotal innovation enabled protestors to circumvent the state’s official anticommunism and, in doing so, brought about the formation of a culture of protest that lay at the heart of the country’s democracy movement from the 1960s to the 1980s. The positioning of women as subordinates in the nation-building enterprise is also shown to be a direct translation of postwar and Cold War exigencies into the sphere of culture; this cultural conservatism went on to shape the terrain of gender relations in subsequent decades. A meticulously researched cultural history, Youth for Nation illuminates the historical significance of the postwar period through a rigorous analysis of magazines, films, textbooks, archival documents, and personal testimonies. In addition to scholars and students of twentieth-century Korea, the book will be welcomed by those interested in Cold War cultures, social movements, and democratization in East Asia.
