Book Koptische Handschriften Die Handschriften der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin T 1 Liturgische Handschriften 1

Download or read book Koptische Handschriften Die Handschriften der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin T 1 Liturgische Handschriften 1 written by Lothar Störk and published by Franz Steiner Verlag. This book was released on 1975 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book The Literary Coptic Manuscripts in the A S Pushkin State Fine Arts Museum in Moscow

Download or read book The Literary Coptic Manuscripts in the A S Pushkin State Fine Arts Museum in Moscow written by A.I. Elanskaya and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 731 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the first complete publication of the collection of Coptic literary manuscripts now in the A.S. Pushkin Fine Arts Museum, Moscow. The collection formed in 1870-1908 by Vladimir Golenischev is of great value since it covers almost the entire field of early Christian literature in Egypt and substantially aids to fill up serious lacunae in many well-known literary works, to say nothing of the texts hitherto unknown. Important is also the fact that Coptica Golenischeviana largely derives from the library of St. Shenoute's monastery at Sohag, this virtual National Library of Christian Egypt, the source of the riches of the museums and libraries of Paris, Vienna, Berlin etc.

Book The Multilingual Experience in Egypt from the Ptolemies to the Abbasids

Download or read book The Multilingual Experience in Egypt from the Ptolemies to the Abbasids written by Arietta Papaconstantinou and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2010 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wealth of documentary sources preserved by Egypt's papyri makes the country a privileged observation ground for the study of ancient multilingualism. Papyri capture more linguistic registers than other ancient and medieval sources, ranging as they do from very private documents not meant by their author to be read by future generations, to official documents produced by the administration, which are preserved in their original form. This collection of essays aims to make this wealth better known, as well as to give a diachronic view of multilingual practices in Egypt from the arrival of the Greeks as a political force in the country with Alexander the Great, to the beginnings of Abbasid rule when Greek, and slowly also Coptic, receded from the documentary record.

Book The Pauline Epistles in Arabic

Download or read book The Pauline Epistles in Arabic written by Vevian Zaki and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-18 with total page 697 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, Vevian Zaki places the Arabic versions of the Pauline Epistles in their historical context, exploring when, where, and how they were produced, transmitted, understood, and adapted among Eastern Christian communities across the centuries. She also considers the transmission and use of these texts among Muslim polemicists, as well as European missionaries and scholars. Underpinning the study is a close investigation of the manuscripts and a critical examination of their variant readings. The work concludes with a case study: an edition and translation of the Epistle to the Philippians from manuscripts London, BL, Or. 8612 and Vatican, BAV, Ar. 13; a comparison of the translation strategies employed in these two versions; and an investigation of the possible relations between them.

Book Perspectives on Panopolis An Egyptian town from Alexander the Great to the Arab Conquest

Download or read book Perspectives on Panopolis An Egyptian town from Alexander the Great to the Arab Conquest written by Egberts and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-03-23 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Panopolis, the modern town of Akhmîm in Southern Egypt, was in Graeco-Roman times an important religious and cultural centre. Its gigantic temple was a stronghold of traditional Egyptian religion. In Late Antiquity it became a major centre of Hellenistic literature and learning and, at the same time, of Coptic monasticism. The sources for Graeco-Roman Panopolis are numerous and diverse. They not only include numerous texts of all genres in various scripts and languages, but archaeological artefacts too. This volume brings together seventeen contributions, dealing with epigraphy, both hieroglyphic and Greek, Greek papyri, Demotic funerary texts, Coptic literature and local monastic architecture. Without neglecting the heuristic problems which these various sources pose, they conjure up a vivid picture of a world marked by profound religious and cultural change.
