Book Knuckleboom Loaders Load Logs

Download or read book Knuckleboom Loaders Load Logs written by Joyce Slayton-Mitchell and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2003-10-27 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Huge saws, hi-tech feller bunchers, rugged knuckleboom loaders, and speedy slasher saws are just some of the fascinating machines that are used to turn trees into lumber, sawdust, wood chips, and many other useful materials. The superb full-color photographs by veteran photographer Steven Borns, and the author's straightforward descriptions, make it easy for armchair visitors to follow along as trees are felled and delimbed in the forest and then trucked to the sawmill where they are scaled, sorted, debarked, and sawn. Children will delight in scanning the crystal-clear pictures to imagine themselves operating each machine and figuring out which is doing what. A glossary of timber talk, a page of forest facts, and a list of forestry websites for children and teachers help readers young and old learn the lingo and understand more about trees -- our most important renewable natural resource.

This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Standard provides a uniform method to calculate the lift capacity of knuckle-boom log loaders and certain forestry equipment. It establishes definitions and specifies machine conditions for calculations. This document applies to knuckle-boom log loaders as defined in ISO 6814 and ISO 17591 and certain forestry equipment defined in ISO 6814 that have a rotating upper-structure such as feller bunchers, forwarders, harvesters, and behind the cab or rear-mounted knuckle-boom log loaders not having their own power supply. It does not apply to harvesters that are incapable of lifting a tree or log completely off the ground. This document applies to those machines that are crawler, rubber-tired, and pedestal or stationary mounted. Book excerpt: This report provides a general overview of current log sort yard operations in the United States, including an extensive literature review and information collected during on-site visits to several operations throughout the nation. Log sort yards provide many services in marketing wood and fiber by concentrating, merchandising, processing, sorting, and adding value to logs. Such operations supply forest products firms with desired raw materials, which helps improve their bottom line by reducing the number of marginal logs processed. Ultimately, sorting logs leads to better use of the available timber resources. Successful log sort yards are self-sufficient and have well-established markets and a steady supply of wood. Log sort yard concepts and analyses described in this report have broad applications.
