Book Conceptual Graphs for Knowledge Representation

Download or read book Conceptual Graphs for Knowledge Representation written by Guy W. Mineau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-07-14 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial Intelligence and cognitive science are the two fields devoted to the study and development of knowledge-based systems (KBS). Over the past 25years, researchers have proposed several approaches for modeling knowledge in KBS, including several kinds of formalism such as semantic networks, frames, and logics. In the early 1980s, J.F. Sowa introduced the conceptual graph (CG) theory which provides a knowledge representation framework consisting of a form of logic with a graph notationand integrating several features from semantic net and frame representations. Since that time, several research teams over the world have been working on the application and extension of CG theory in various domains ranging from natural language processing to database modeling and machine learning. This volume contains selected papers fromthe international conference on Conceptual Structures held in the city of Quebec, Canada, August 4-7, 1993. The volume opens with invited papers by J.F. Sowa, B.R. Gaines, and J. Barwise.

Book Knowledge Based and Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems

Download or read book Knowledge Based and Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems written by Juan D. Velásquez and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-10-01 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On behalf of KES International and the KES 2009 Organising Committee we are very pleased to present these volumes, the proceedings of the 13th Inter- tional Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems, held at the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics, University of Chile, in Santiago de Chile. This year, the broad focus of the KES annual conference was on intelligent applications, emergent intelligent technologies and generic topics relating to the theory, methods, tools and techniques of intelligent systems. This covers a wide range of interests, attracting many high-quality papers, which were subjected to a very rigorous review process. Thus, these volumes contain the best papers, carefully selected from an impressively large number of submissions, on an - teresting range of intelligent-systems topics. For the ?rsttime in overa decade of KES events, the annualconferencecame to South America, to Chile. For many delegates this represented the antipode of their own countries. We recognise the tremendous e?ort it took for everyone to travel to Chile, and we hope this e?ort was rewarded. Delegates were presented with the opportunity of sharing their knowledge of high-tech topics on theory andapplicationofintelligentsystemsandestablishinghumannetworksforfuture work in similar research areas, creating new synergies, and perhaps even, new innovative ?elds of study. The fact that this occurred in an interesting and beautiful area of the world was an added bonus.

Book Knowledge Representation and Relation Nets

Download or read book Knowledge Representation and Relation Nets written by Aletta E. Geldenhuys and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge Representation and Relation Nets introduces a fresh approach to knowledge representation that can be used to organize study material in a convenient, teachable and learnable form. The method extends and formalizes concept mapping by developing knowledge representation as a structure of concepts and the relationships among them. Such a formal description of analogy results in a controlled method of modeling `new' knowledge in terms of `existing' knowledge in teaching and learning situations, and its applications result in a consistent and well-organized approach to problem solving. Additionally, strategies for the presentation of study material to learners arise naturally in this representation. While the theory of relation nets is dealt with in detail in part of this book, the reader need not master the formal mathematics in order to apply the theory to this method of knowledge representation. To assist the reader, each chapter starts with a brief summary, and the main ideas are illustrated by examples. The reader is also given an intuitive view of the formal notions used in the applications by means of diagrams, informal descriptions, and simple sets of construction rules. Knowledge Representation and Relation Nets is an excellent source for teachers, courseware designers and researchers in knowledge representation, cognitive science, theories of learning, the psychology of education, and structural modeling.

Book Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing written by Amit Konar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With all the material available in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and soft computing-texts, monographs, and journal articles-there remains a serious gap in the literature. Until now, there has been no comprehensive resource accessible to a broad audience yet containing a depth and breadth of information that enables the reader to fully understand and readily apply AI and soft computing concepts. Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing fills this gap. It presents both the traditional and the modern aspects of AI and soft computing in a clear, insightful, and highly comprehensive style. It provides an in-depth analysis of mathematical models and algorithms and demonstrates their applications in real world problems. Beginning with the behavioral perspective of "human cognition," the text covers the tools and techniques required for its intelligent realization on machines. The author addresses the classical aspects-search, symbolic logic, planning, and machine learning-in detail and includes the latest research in these areas. He introduces the modern aspects of soft computing from first principles and discusses them in a manner that enables a beginner to grasp the subject. He also covers a number of other leading aspects of AI research, including nonmonotonic and spatio-temporal reasoning, knowledge acquisition, and much more. Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing: Behavioral and Cognitive Modeling of the Human Brain is unique for its diverse content, clear presentation, and overall completeness. It provides a practical, detailed introduction that will prove valuable to computer science practitioners and students as well as to researchers migrating to the subject from other disciplines.
