Book Technology and Knowledge Flow

Download or read book Technology and Knowledge Flow written by Guglielmo Trentin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-08-05 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book outlines how network technology can support, foster and enhance the Knowledge Management, Sharing and Development (KMSD) processes in professional environments through the activation of both formal and informal knowledge flows. Understanding how ICT can be made available to such flows in the knowledge society is a factor that cannot be disregarded and is confirmed by the increasing interest of companies in new forms of software-mediated social interaction. The latter factor is in relation both to the possibility of accelerating internal communication and problem solving processes, and/or in relation to dynamics of endogenous knowledge growth of human resources. The book will focus specifically on knowledge flow (KF) processes occurring within networked communities of professionals (NCP) and the associated virtual community environments (VCE) that foster horizontal dynamics in the management, sharing and development of fresh knowledge. Along this line a further key issue will concern the analysis and evaluation techniques of the impact of Network Technology use on both community KF and NCP performance. - The proposal of a taxonomy of Network Technology uses to support formal and informal knowledge flows - Analyses how Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 technology is deeply modifying the dynamics connected to KF and KM - Discusses dynamics underlying horizontal KF sharing processes within NCP

Book Knowledge Flows Percolation Model A New Model for the Relation Between Knowledge and Innovation

Download or read book Knowledge Flows Percolation Model A New Model for the Relation Between Knowledge and Innovation written by Daniela Popescul and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present paper proposes a new way of thinking regarding the relation between innovation and knowledge using a Physics-borrowed model, trying to prove whether knowledge resources can "flow" (be percolated) in a network or a grid, in order to be transformed in technological innovation. In the Knowledge Flow Percolation Model center, human beings are seen as thinking electrons, both consuming and generating knowledge flow. Through the inter-dependent actions of individuals, knowledge circulates inside different types of organizations, allowing functioning and innovating in order to obtain competitive advantages. The model can be extended also at a national level, and some assumptions of self similarity appear in this process of extension. The model must be seen as a proposal for the research community and as a basis for future observations regarding the importance of knowledge flows in innovation.

Book Dynamic Patterns of Knowledge Flows Across Technological Domains

Download or read book Dynamic Patterns of Knowledge Flows Across Technological Domains written by Jieun Kim and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to investigate the structure and evolution of knowledge spillovers across technological domains. Specifically, dynamic patterns of knowledge flow among 29 technological domains, measured by patent citations for eight distinct periods, are identified and link prediction is tested for capability for forecasting the evolution in these cross-domain patent networks. The overall success of the predictions using the Katz metric implies that there is a tendency to generate increased knowledge flows mostly within the set of previously linked technological domains. This study contributes to innovation studies by characterizing the structural change and evolutionary behaviors in dynamic technology networks and by offering the basis for predicting the emergence of future technological knowledge flows.

Download or read book Knowledge Flows Between Societies written by Samraj Praveen Sam and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-03 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The works of Abu Rayhan Al-Biruni (973-1048AD), a Persian polymath scholar who made significant contributions in diverse fields of study, were examined using frameworks of knowledge assets and knowledge flows. The contributions of this great scholar were revisited and the individual, his environment and the link between them were studied. The factors that have contributed to the tremendous achievements in scholarship by the genius of Al- Biruni were found to be the possession of multiple intelligences, a balance of wisdom with an ability to positively influence his environment and a strong Islamic value system within which he operated. The research suggests that possessing multiple intelligences and a balance in wisdom enables the people involved in multi-national, cross-cultural and cross-lingual knowledge transfer to be able to give better form and structure to knowledge enabling easier and better knowledge diffusion. His learning and research methodology was also found to be very conducive to knowledge flows and knowledge transfer in a cross-cultural, global context.

Download or read book Fortifying China written by Tai Ming Cheung and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fortifying China explores the titanic struggle to turn China into an aspiring world-class military technological power. The defense economy is leveraging the country's vibrant civilian economy and gaining access to foreign sources of technology and know-how. Drawing on extensive Chinese-language sources, Tai Ming Cheung explains that this transformation has two key dimensions. The defense economy is being reengineered to break down bureaucratic barriers and reduce the role of the state, fostering a more competitive and entrepreneurial culture to facilitate the rapid diffusion and absorption of technology and knowledge. At the same time, the civilian and defense economies are being integrated to form a dual-use technological and industrial base. In Cheung's view, the Chinese authorities believe this strategy will play a key role in supporting long-term defense modernization. For China's neighbors and the United States, understanding China's technological, industrial, and military capabilities is critical to the formulation of economic and security policies. Fortifying China provides crucial insight into the impact of China's dual-use technology strategy. Cheung's "systems of innovation" framework considers the structure, dynamics, and performance of the defense economy from a systems-level perspective.

Book excerpt: Knowledge Networks: Innovation Through Communities of Practice explores the inner workings of an organizational, internationally distributed Community of Practice. The book highlights the weaknesses of the 'traditional' KM approach of 'capture-codify-store' and asserts that communities of practice are recognized as groups where soft (knowledge that cannot be captured) knowledge is created and sustained. Readers will gain insight into a period the life of a distributed international community of practice by following the members as they work, meet, collaborate, interact and socialize.
