Book Knowledge Based Process Planning for Construction and Manufacturing

Download or read book Knowledge Based Process Planning for Construction and Manufacturing written by Carlos Zozaya-Gorostiza and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge-Based Process Planning for Construction and Manufacturing describes a knowledge-based system architecture that is used to develop process planning systems called PLANEX. This book explains that PLANEX is a domain-independent, knowledge-based process planning system architecture. Starting from a description of the physical artifact to be constructed or manufactured, PLANEX generates the set of activities used to create the artifact. These activities, with their required resources, are linked into a process planning network which can be used in project scheduling or management. This text also reviews the concepts, requirements, and resulting architecture of PLANEX, including detailed descriptions of applications of the system in construction and manufacturing. This publication is recommended to engineers, architects, and specialists interested in construction and manufacturing process planning.

Book Knowledge Based Expert Systems in Transportation

Download or read book Knowledge Based Expert Systems in Transportation written by Louis Franklin Cohn and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1992 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to engineering managers, design engineers, traffic engineers, computer personnel, and others interested in advanced computer applications for highway design and operations. Information is provided on the history of knowledge based expert systems (KBES), current applications of these systems in transportation departments, potential applications, and hardware and software requirements. Additionally, some detailed programming information from two operational expert systems is included. There is growing use of computers in transportation departments, and KBES represent an area in which several highway agencies are gaining experience and obtaining promising results. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the current state of the practice with respect to KBES, as well as the historical development of expert systems and the more general field of artificial intelligence. Experience with expert systems in transportation in summarized, including discussions of expert systems in operation and in development, based on a review of the literature and a survey of the states and experts in this field.

Book Capture and Reuse of Project Knowledge in Construction

Download or read book Capture and Reuse of Project Knowledge in Construction written by Hai Chen Tan and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-02-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An organisation’s competitive advantage lies in the knowledge of its employees and the organisation’s ability to harness that knowledge to meet business objectives. Knowledge management is recognised in the construction industry as a potential tool for providing organisational benefits, but for a number of reasons – particularly the project based nature of construction, where teams are transient, multidisciplinary and often from different organisations – implementation has been only marginally successful. Capture and Reuse of Project Knowledge in Construction describes a methodology for the 'live' capture of reusable project knowledge that reflects both the organisational and human dimensions of knowledge capture and reuse, as well as exploiting the benefits of technology. This methodology was developed in response to the shortcomings of current practices in managing project knowledge, the benefits offered by capturing and sharing knowledge immediately after it is generated, and the organisational benefit of reusing knowledge within a project based environment.

Book Knowledge Management in Construction

Download or read book Knowledge Management in Construction written by Chimay J. Anumba and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A key problem facing the construction industry is that all work is done by transient project teams, and in the past there has been no structured approach to learning from projects once they are completed. Now, though, the industry is adapting concepts of knowledge management to improve the situation. This book brings together 13 contributors from research and industry to show how managing construction knowledge can bring real benefits to organisations and projects. It covers a wide range of issues, from basic definitions and fundamental concepts, to the role of information technology, and engendering a knowledge sharing culture. Practical examples from construction and other industry sectors are used throughout to illustrate the various dimensions of knowledge management. The challenges of implementing knowledge management are outlined and the ensuing benefits highlighted.

Book Knowledge based Reactive Scheduling

Download or read book Knowledge based Reactive Scheduling written by Elizabeth Szelke and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1994 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reactive scheduling is concerned with monitoring and controlling the execution of predictive schedules and making any changes required to bring them in line with unanticipated events or disturbances happening in real time. Whilst predictive scheduling has been a focus of research for many years, it is only recently that explicit attention has been given to the specific problems of reactive scheduling and the relationship between the two. This publication explores the scope and status of both existing and potential approaches to reactive scheduling. Concentration is centred on knowledge-based approaches as the importance of domain knowledge, whether stored in computers or in the brains of experienced schedulers, is becoming increasingly apparent. Contributions examine a variety of approaches ranging from reactive scheduling decision support frameworks in which the knowledge comes mainly from the human, through to completely new approaches to automated reactive scheduling such as neural networks. The book will be of particular interest to researchers, students and engineers involved in the manufacturing and software development industries. In addition to providing a significant reference volume, it also aims to stimulate increased discussion in this emerging field.
