This book was released on 2019-01-22 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Theology - Miscellaneous, grade: 3.0, , language: English, abstract: Family planning is a means to control and decide the size of the family and spacing of children by using different methods. Addressing family health issues in the church allows the church to meet the needs of its members holistically. In Ethiopia the prevalence of family planning has 34% increase within the past 14 years. Church based cross-sectional study conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of family planning among married evangelical women in selected evangelical churches and the views of the church leaders in Gulele sub-city, Addis Ababa with the objectives to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practice of family planning among evangelical married women and to understand/ describe the influence of the church doctrine/ teachings on marriage in shaping the views and usage of family planning services by the members. All of the married women are aware of family planning, the majority, that is, 64 (39.0%) responded they do not know what the Bible says about family planning, 109 (66.5%) answered that using contraceptives is not sin whereas51 (31.1%) affirmed its sinfulness. 127 (77.4%) replied health related issues like family planning must be included in the church. Out of the 164 respondents only 117 (71.3%) have ever used family planning methods. The different denominations in the study show more of a similar attitude towards family planning regardless of some doctrinal differences among them. All of the leaders agree on the need of planning in order to keep the wellbeing of the family. Family issues like family health are not as such given due attention in the six evangelical denominations. There is an overall awareness and positive attitude of family planning by the married women and the church leaders. However, the perception of the leaders about contraceptives is rather shallow.

Book Family Planning Knowledge Attitudes Practices of Married Men

Download or read book Family Planning Knowledge Attitudes Practices of Married Men written by Hansingo Isaiah and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-13 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Family planning is a key component of reproductive health and is one of the effective interventions in reducing maternal and infant mortality. Despite family planning activities having started in the 1960s in Zambia, the contraceptive utilization rate is still unacceptably low and the unmet need for family planning among married women is high. The available family planning methods are poorly used due to several factors that include poor knowledge of each method and the perceived disapproval from husbands. Given the critical roles that Zambian men play in family decisions, men's support and involvement are essential for family planning to become more widespread. If organized family planning programmes are to reach out to men, a better understanding of their reproductive intentions is essential. In this study, the author explores the knowledge, attitude and practice of family planning among married men of Lusaka District of Zambia. The factors that contribute towards their attitude and practice have also been explored. These factors can be exploited by policy makers in order to improve family planning utilization in Zambia and other African countries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Key findings: Contraceptives are used by the majority of married or in-union women in almost all regions of the world ... At least one in ten married or in-union women in most regions of the world has an unmet need for family planning ... Modern contraceptive methods constitute most contraceptive use ... Substantial gaps still persist in the use of modern methods among couples who want to prevent pregnancy ... Growth in contraceptive prevalence until 2030 is expected mainly in the regions of sub-Saharan Africa and Oceania ... Nearly 800 million married or in-union women are projected to be using contraception in 2030, and growth in the number of contraceptive users will be uneven across regions ... Method-specific contraceptive prevalence varies widely across the world ... In at least one out of every four countries or areas with data, a single method accounts for at least half of all contraceptive use among married or in-union women ... High levels of contraceptive prevalence reflect different mixtures of methods, but long-acting or permanent methods play a prominent role ..."--Page 2.

This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decades of research have demonstrated that the parent-child dyad and the environment of the familyâ€"which includes all primary caregiversâ€"are at the foundation of children's well- being and healthy development. From birth, children are learning and rely on parents and the other caregivers in their lives to protect and care for them. The impact of parents may never be greater than during the earliest years of life, when a child's brain is rapidly developing and when nearly all of her or his experiences are created and shaped by parents and the family environment. Parents help children build and refine their knowledge and skills, charting a trajectory for their health and well-being during childhood and beyond. The experience of parenting also impacts parents themselves. For instance, parenting can enrich and give focus to parents' lives; generate stress or calm; and create any number of emotions, including feelings of happiness, sadness, fulfillment, and anger. Parenting of young children today takes place in the context of significant ongoing developments. These include: a rapidly growing body of science on early childhood, increases in funding for programs and services for families, changing demographics of the U.S. population, and greater diversity of family structure. Additionally, parenting is increasingly being shaped by technology and increased access to information about parenting. Parenting Matters identifies parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with positive developmental outcomes in children ages 0-8; universal/preventive and targeted strategies used in a variety of settings that have been effective with parents of young children and that support the identified knowledge, attitudes, and practices; and barriers to and facilitators for parents' use of practices that lead to healthy child outcomes as well as their participation in effective programs and services. This report makes recommendations directed at an array of stakeholders, for promoting the wide-scale adoption of effective programs and services for parents and on areas that warrant further research to inform policy and practice. It is meant to serve as a roadmap for the future of parenting policy, research, and practice in the United States.

Book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2

Download or read book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2 written by Robert Black and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-04-11 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evaluation of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) by the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (DCP3) focuses on maternal conditions, childhood illness, and malnutrition. Specifically, the chapters address acute illness and undernutrition in children, principally under age 5. It also covers maternal mortality, morbidity, stillbirth, and influences to pregnancy and pre-pregnancy. Volume 3 focuses on developments since the publication of DCP2 and will also include the transition to older childhood, in particular, the overlap and commonality with the child development volume. The DCP3 evaluation of these conditions produced three key findings: 1. There is significant difficulty in measuring the burden of key conditions such as unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, nonsexually transmitted infections, infertility, and violence against women. 2. Investments in the continuum of care can have significant returns for improved and equitable access, health, poverty, and health systems. 3. There is a large difference in how RMNCH conditions affect different income groups; investments in RMNCH can lessen the disparity in terms of both health and financial risk.

Book The Best Intentions

Download or read book The Best Intentions written by Committee on Unintended Pregnancy and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1995-06-16 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experts estimate that nearly 60 percent of all U.S. pregnancies--and 81 percent of pregnancies among adolescents--are unintended. Yet the topic of preventing these unintended pregnancies has long been treated gingerly because of personal sensitivities and public controversies, especially the angry debate over abortion. Additionally, child welfare advocates long have overlooked the connection between pregnancy planning and the improved well-being of families and communities that results when children are wanted. Now, current issues--health care and welfare reform, and the new international focus on population--are drawing attention to the consequences of unintended pregnancy. In this climate The Best Intentions offers a timely exploration of family planning issues from a distinguished panel of experts. This committee sheds much-needed light on the questions and controversies surrounding unintended pregnancy. The book offers specific recommendations to put the United States on par with other developed nations in terms of contraceptive attitudes and policies, and it considers the effectiveness of over 20 pregnancy prevention programs. The Best Intentions explores problematic definitions--"unintended" versus "unwanted" versus "mistimed"--and presents data on pregnancy rates and trends. The book also summarizes the health and social consequences of unintended pregnancies, for both men and women, and for the children they bear. Why does unintended pregnancy occur? In discussions of "reasons behind the rates," the book examines Americans' ambivalence about sexuality and the many other social, cultural, religious, and economic factors that affect our approach to contraception. The committee explores the complicated web of peer pressure, life aspirations, and notions of romance that shape an individual's decisions about sex, contraception, and pregnancy. And the book looks at such practical issues as the attitudes of doctors toward birth control and the place of contraception in both health insurance and "managed care." The Best Intentions offers frank discussion, synthesis of data, and policy recommendations on one of today's most sensitive social topics. This book will be important to policymakers, health and social service personnel, foundation executives, opinion leaders, researchers, and concerned individuals. May
