Book Between Life and Death

Download or read book Between Life and Death written by Kathryn Butler and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “To prepare yourself to make difficult medical decisions in a distinctly Christian way, you won’t do better than to read Between Life and Death.” —Tim Challies Modern medical advances save countless lives. But for all their merits, sophisticated technologies have created a daunting new challenge, namely a blurring of the expanse between life and death. The dying process is often hidden behind a complex web of medical terminology, statistics, and ethical decisions, making it difficult for patients and loved ones to know how to approach the end of life in a dignity-affirming, Godhonoring, faith-filled way. This book offers a distinctly Christian guide to end-of-life care. It equips readers by explaining common medical jargon, exploring biblical principles that connect to common medical situations, and offering guidance for making critical decisions. In these pages, readers will find the medical knowledge and scriptural wisdom they need to navigate this painful and confusing process with clarity, peace, and discernment.

Book The One Year Father Daughter Devotions

Download or read book The One Year Father Daughter Devotions written by Jesse Florea and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2012-09-21 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As girls enter their tween and teen years, it’s especially important for them to have an open and growing relationship with their father. Unfortunately, this is often the time when parental relationships are strained. The One Year Father-Daughter Devotions can foster communication and understanding; and it’s a wonderful way for a father to bond with his daughter during a crucial point in her life. Each of the 365 devotions begins with an introductory story, then daddy-daughter time provides discussion questions, activities, or other practical applications of the daily lesson. A “What’s the Word” section gives a related Bible verse to help bring God’s Word alive as father and daughter apply the Scripture to their lives. Written by three fathers, the devotions have a tone that is conversational and relatable: the authors use everything from flavored potato chips to the Etch-A-Sketch game to share truths about God’s Word and to help fathers and daughters relate to each other.

Book Research Anthology on School Shootings Peer Victimization and Solutions for Building Safer Educational Institutions

Download or read book Research Anthology on School Shootings Peer Victimization and Solutions for Building Safer Educational Institutions written by Management Association, Information Resources and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-09-10 with total page 824 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though decades ago school shootings were rare events, today they are becoming normalized. Active shooter drills have become more commonplace as pressure is placed on schools and law enforcement to prevent the next attack. Yet others argue the traumatizing effects of such exercises on the students. Additionally, violence between students continues to remain problematic as bullying pervades children’s lives both at school and at home, leading to negative mental health impacts and, in extreme cases, suicide. Establishing safer school policies, promoting violence prevention programs, building healthier classroom environments, and providing better staff training are all vital for protecting students physically and mentally. The Research Anthology on School Shootings, Peer Victimization, and Solutions for Building Safer Educational Institutions examines the current sources of violence within educational systems, and it offers solutions on how to provide a safer space for both students and educators alike. Broken into four sections, the book examines the causes and impacts that peer victimization has on students and how this can lead to further violence and investigates strategies for detecting the warning signs. The book provides solutions that range from policies and programs that can be established to strategies for teaching nonviolence and promoting coexistence in the classroom. Highlighting a range of topics such as violence prevention, school climate, and bullying, this publication is an ideal reference source for school administrators, law enforcement, teachers, government and state officials, school boards, academicians, researchers, and upper-level students who are intent on stopping the persisting and unfortunate problem that is school violence.

Book Group Duties

  • Author : Stephanie Collins
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2019-07-04
  • ISBN : 0192576585

Download or read book Group Duties written by Stephanie Collins and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-07-04 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moral duties are regularly attributed to groups. In the media or on the street, we might hear that a specific country has a moral duty to defend human rights, that environmentalists have a moral duty to push for global systemic reform, or that the affluent have a moral duty to alleviate poverty. Do such attributions make conceptual sense or are they mere political rhetoric? And what does that imply for the individual members of these groups? Group Duties offers the first comprehensive answer to these questions. Stephanie Collins defends a Tripartite Model of group duties - so-called because it divides groups into three fundamental categories. First, we have combinations - collections of agents that don't have any goals or decision-making procedures in common. These groups cannot bear moral duties. Instead, we should re-cast their purported duties as a series of duties, one held by each agent in the combination. Each duty demands its bearer to 'I-reason': to do the best they can, given whatever they happen to believe the others will do. Second, there are groups whose members share goals but lack decision-making procedures. These are coalitions. Coalitions also cannot bear duties, but their alleged duties should be replaced with members' several duties to 'we-reason': to do one's part in a particular group pattern of actions, on the presumption that others will do likewise. Third and finally, collectives have group-level procedures for making decisions. They can bear duties. Collectives' duties imply duties for collectives' members to use their role in the collective with a view to the collective doing its duty. With the Tripartite Model in-hand, Collins argues that we can target our political demands at the right entities, in the right way, for the right reasons.
