Book excerpt: Why is it that our spiritual disciplines feel so dutiful and routine most of the time? We are called to delight in Him, to draw near and enjoy Him and yet that seems far from most of our realities. There are many fine written works describing the need, purpose, and methods of spiritual disciplines. Knowing Grace complements these by fostering and deepening the reader's engagement with God through various means of grace. By using this terminology, "means of grace" a rightful emphasis is placed on God's initiation, invitation, and empowering to engage with Him in ways that foster a greater sensitivity to His movements, stirrings, nudges and voice. By growing more familiar with being in His presence, one experiences more of His grace, moving us from duty to delight.

Book excerpt: The Christian life is built on three seemingly unremarkable practices: reading the Bible, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. However, according to David Mathis, such “habits of grace” are the God-designed channels through which his glorious grace flows—making them life-giving practices for all Christians. Whether it’s hearing God’s voice (the Word), having his ear (prayer), or participating in his body (fellowship), such spiritual rhythms of the Christian life have the power to awaken our souls to God’s glory and stir our hearts for lifelong service in his name. What’s more, these seemingly simple practices grant us access to a host of spiritual blessings that we can only begin to imagine this side of eternity—and the incredible joy that such blessings bring to God’s children today.

Book Knowing God to Make Him Known

Download or read book Knowing God to Make Him Known written by Ed Scheuerman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians are all too familiar with the dichotomy between "being a Mary" (sitting at Jesus' feet) and "being a Martha" (being active in ministry). We have been told that before we can do, we first need to be. And this is well and good. But it is insufficient. Before we can be, we first need to know. We need to know who God is (God's attributes) so that we can then be who we are intended to be in Christ. Only then should we seek to do what he has called and equipped us to do for his glory. This book focuses on knowing God, in his many attributes, so that we can become conformed to his image, in order to do what he's called us to do to bring the gospel to the world.

Book 90 Days to Knowing God Better

Download or read book 90 Days to Knowing God Better written by David McCoy and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-04-13 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost everybody knows of God. Many even know about God. However, just as people know some people better than others, some people know God better than others. Think of it like this: When you know people on a personal or an intimate level, don't you know what they are thinking even before they say it? Or can't you read between the lines and know what they were thinking that they didn't say? You probably even know what their wishes are without them having to tell you. You know how their mind works and what they think, what makes them tick, and what makes them ticked. While God is a God of love, there is so much more to Him. He has thoughts and opinions and emotions and feelings. In the Bible, God is said to love, laugh, enjoy, take delight in, rejoice, as well as be angry, happy, jealous, and glad. Do you know Him that well? The prophet Isaiah said that God sits on the circle of the Earth and we appear as grasshoppers, yet He knows everything about us, even the number of hairs on our head. He has intimate knowledge of us. In comparison, at best, we have only touched the surface of what we know of Him. While He doesn't tell us everything He knows, He has told us everything He wants us to know. There are nuggets of truth burrowed deep in the scriptures for those who wish to learn of Him and make the effort to search for Him. Now is a good time to get to know Him better. Eternity is just ahead and it lasts a long time. We serve a great God, and He has good things planned for those who love Him. He says in Ephesians that He is going to spend the ceaseless ages of eternity showing us His kindness. That's a God worth knowing!

Book Knowing My Faith

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ignacio Götz
  • Publisher : Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
  • Release : 2018-02-05
  • ISBN : 1641401427
  • Pages : 297 pages

Download or read book Knowing My Faith written by Ignacio Götz and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity is an enormously complex edifice whose numberless cubicles were built brick by brick over two thousand years. In it, every detail has been thought through so that it meshes perfectly with the constructs that went before. The bricks were shaped by scholarly men and women, theologians and saints, who wrote for the edification of their contemporaries. In this book, I have gathered some excerpts from their writings and organized them under the rubrics of the commandments, the tenets of the creed, the sacraments, and prayer. These materials should help us gain a deeper understanding of our faith and place us in the traditions that formed it.

Book Knowledge Of The Holy Drawing Close To God By Knowing His Attributes

Download or read book Knowledge Of The Holy Drawing Close To God By Knowing His Attributes written by A.W Tozer and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-09-09 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: True religion confronts earth with heaven and brings eternity to bear upon time. The messenger of Christ, though he speaks from God, must also, as the Quakers used to say, "speak to the condition" of his hearers; otherwise he will speak a language known only to himself. His message must be not only timeless but timely. He must speak to his own generation. The message of this book does not grow out of these times but it is appropriate to them. It is called forth by a condition which has existed in the Church for some years and is steadily growing worse. I refer to the loss of the concept of majesty from the popular religious mind. The Church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it one so low, so ignoble, as to be utterly unworthy of thinking, worshipping men. This she has done not deliberately, but little by little and without her knowledge; and her very unawareness only makes her situation all the more tragic.
