Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the proceedings of the 2010 International Conference on Future Gene- tion Communication and Networking (FGCN 2010) – one of the partnering events of the Second International Mega-Conference on Future Generation Information Technology (FGIT 2010). FGCN brings together researchers from academia and industry as well as practit- ners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of communication and networking, including their links to computational sciences, mathematics and information technology. In total, 1,630 papers were submitted to FGIT 2010 from 30 countries, which - cludes 150 papers submitted to the FGCN 2010 Special Sessions. The submitted papers went through a rigorous reviewing process: 395 of the 1,630 papers were - cepted for FGIT 2010, while 70 papers were accepted for the FGCN 2010 Special Sessions. Of the 70 papers, 6 were selected for the special FGIT 2010 volume p- lished by Springer in LNCS series. Fifty-one papers are published in this volume, and 13 papers were withdrawn due to technical reasons. We would like to acknowledge the great effort of the FGCN 2010 International Advisory Board and Special Session Co-chairs, as well as all the organizations and individuals who supported the idea of publishing this volume of proceedings, incl- ing SERSC and Springer. Also, the success of the conference would not have been possible without the huge support from our sponsors and the work of the Organizing Committee.

Book Birds and Habitat

  • Author : Robert J. Fuller
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2012-11-08
  • ISBN : 1139851306

Download or read book Birds and Habitat written by Robert J. Fuller and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-11-08 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The successful conservation of bird species relies upon our understanding of their habitat use and requirements. In the coming decades the importance of such knowledge will only grow as climate change, the development of new energy sources and the needs of a growing human population intensify the, already significant, pressure on the habitats that birds depend on. Drawing on valuable recent advances in our understanding of bird-habitat relationships, this book provides the first major review of avian habitat selection in over twenty years. It offers a synthesis of concepts, patterns and issues that will interest students, researchers and conservation practitioners. Spatial scales ranging from landscape to habitat patch are covered, and examples of responses to habitat change are examined. European landscapes are the main focus, but the book has far wider significance to similar habitats worldwide, with examples and relevant material also drawn from North America and Australia.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications CHAOTIC PROCESSES IN THE GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES is based on the proceedings of a workshop which was an integral part of the 1989- 90 IMA program on "Dynamical Systems and their Applications". The workshop was intended to be an arena for scientific exchanges between earth scientists and mathematical researchers, especially with experts in dynamical systems. We thank Shui-Nee Chow, Martin Golubitsky, Richard McGehee, George R. Sell and David Yuen for organizing the meeting. We especially thank David Yuen for editing the proceedings. We also take this opportunity to thank those agencies whose financial support made the workshop possible: the Army Research Office, the Minnesota Supercomputer Institute, the National Science Foundation, and the Office of Naval Research. A vner Friedman Willard Miller, Jr. PREFACE The problems in geological sciences have many nonlinearities from the nature of the complicated physical laws which give rise to strongly chaotic behavior. Foremost and most visible are earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, more subtle are the time dependent variations of the Earth's magnetic fields and motions of the surface plates.
