Download or read book Kitoi Bay Hatchery Annual Management Plan 2006 written by Stephen Schrof and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kitoi Bay Hatchery (KBH) is located on Afognak Island about 48 kilometers (30 miles) north of the city of Kodiak and is financed and operated by the Kodiak Regional Aquaculture Association. Currently, KBH incubates and rears a single stock of each of the following salmon species: pink Oncorhynchus gorbuscha, chum O. keta, coho O. kisutch, and sockeye O. nerka salmon. This management plan describes: 1) projected releases of juvenile salmon in 2006, 2) egg takes in 2006 and projected releases in 2007 and 2008, 3) salmon harvest management in 2006, 4) additional measures for wild stock protection in 2006, and 5) evaluation plans for 2006.

Book excerpt: An anthology of stories of football played on the gravel fields and in the ever present mud of Tasmania's west coast. Like the fluctuating fortunes of the nearby mining towns that dominate the remote West Coast, local football has had its ups and downs, but passion, pride and parochialism have combined to weave a tough and fascinating history.
Download or read book Ocean Biogeochemical Dynamics written by Jorge L. Sarmiento and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-17 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ocean Biogeochemical Dynamics provides a broad theoretical framework upon which graduate students and upper-level undergraduates can formulate an understanding of the processes that control the mean concentration and distribution of biologically utilized elements and compounds in the ocean. Though it is written as a textbook, it will also be of interest to more advanced scientists as a wide-ranging synthesis of our present understanding of ocean biogeochemical processes. The first two chapters of the book provide an introductory overview of biogeochemical and physical oceanography. The next four chapters concentrate on processes at the air-sea interface, the production of organic matter in the upper ocean, the remineralization of organic matter in the water column, and the processing of organic matter in the sediments. The focus of these chapters is on analyzing the cycles of organic carbon, oxygen, and nutrients. The next three chapters round out the authors' coverage of ocean biogeochemical cycles with discussions of silica, dissolved inorganic carbon and alkalinity, and CaCO3. The final chapter discusses applications of ocean biogeochemistry to our understanding of the role of the ocean carbon cycle in interannual to decadal variability, paleoclimatology, and the anthropogenic carbon budget. The problem sets included at the end of each chapter encourage students to ask critical questions in this exciting new field. While much of the approach is mathematical, the math is at a level that should be accessible to students with a year or two of college level mathematics and/or physics.

Download or read book Seawater Its Composition Properties and Behaviour written by John M. Wright and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seawater: Its Composition, Properties and Behaviour provides a comprehensive introduction to marine science. This book is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1 summarizes the special properties of water and the role of the oceans in the hydrological cycle. The distribution of temperature and salinity in the oceans and their combined influence on density, stability, and vertical water movements are discussed in Chapters 2 to 4. The fifth chapter describes the behavior of light and sound in seawater and provides examples of the application of acoustics to oceanography. Chapter 6 examines the composition and behavior of the dissolved constituents of seawater, covering minor and trace constituents and major ions, as well as dissolved gases and biologically important nutrients. Residence times, speciation, and carbonate equilibria are also deliberated. The last chapter provides a short review of ideas about the history of seawater, involvement of the oceans in global cycles, and their relationship to climatic change. This publication is beneficial to oceanographers and marine biologists, including students that are interested in marine science.

This book was released on 1984 with total page 786 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains peer-reviewed papers that discuss the attributes of pollution measurements which contribute to their credibility, and attributes which detract. Authors were asked not to dwell on the details of methodology, but rather to comment on the strong as well as the debilitating features of whole categories of techniques. The papers are organized into chapters which move from controlled, laboratory assessment strategies to field strategies.
