Allah SWT menyampaikan salawatnya kepada Nabi itu, sebagai bentuk rahmat dan keberkahan. Para malaikat pun menyampaikan salawat kepadanya sebagai bentuk pujian dan permintaan ampunan, sedangkan orang-orang mukmin bersalawat kepadanya sebagai bentuk penghormatan. Allah SWT berfirman: "Sesungguhnya Allah dan malaikat-malaikat-Nya bersalawat untuk Nabi. Hai orang-orang yang beriman, bersalawatlah kamu untuk Nabi dan ucapkanlah salam penghormatan kepadanya." (QS. al-Azhab: 56) Sebelumnya Allah SWT mengutus para nabi-Nya sebagai rahmat kepada kaum dan zaman mereka saja, namun Allah SWT mengutus beliau saw sebagai rahmat bagi alam semesta. Beliau saw datang dengan membawa rahmat yang mutlak untuk kaum di zamannya dan untuk seluruh zaman. Allah SWT berfirman, "Dan aku tidak mengutusmu kecuali sebagai rahmat bagi alam semesta." Hakikat dakwah para nabi sebelumnya adalah menyebarkan Islam, begitu juga ajaran yang dibawa oleh Nabi yang terakhir adalah Islam. Beliau saw adalah Muhammad bin Abdillah bin Abdul Muthalib, anak seorang wanita Quraisy. Beliau saw adalah pemimpin anak-anak Nabi Adam as.

At the age of forty, Prophet Muhammad SAW received his first revelation from God through the Angel Gabriel. The revelations continued for twenty-three years, and they are collectively known as The Holy Quran. As soon as he began to recite the Quran and to preach the truth which Allah SWT (God) had revealed to him, he and his small group of followers suffered persecution from unbelievers. The persecution grew so fierce that in the year 622, God gave them the command to emigrate. This emigration from Makkah to the city of Madinah, some 260 miles to the north, marks the beginning of the Muslim calendar. After several years, Prophet Muhammad SAW and his followers were able to return to Makkah, where they forgave their enemies. Before Prophet Muhammad SAW died, at the age of sixty-three, the greater part of the Arabian Peninsula had become Muslim, and within a century of his death, Islam had spread to Spain in the West and as far East as China.

Dilahirkan di Kota Suci Makkah, Semenanjung Arab, baginda adalah anak yatim piatu sejak kecil lagi dimana baginda dijaga oleh datuknya, Abdul Muttalib bin Hasyim dan seterusnya bapa saudara baginda, Abu Talib bin Abdul Muttalib. Baginda juga pernah bekerja sebagai pengembala kambing dan saudagar serta perkahwinan pertamanya adalah ketika berusia 25 tahun dimana baginda telah bernikah dengan Khadijah binti Khuwailid (40 tahun). Ketika Muhammad berumur 40 tahun, baginda telah menerima wahyu yang pertama daripada Tuhan melalui malaikat Jibril ketika sedang berada di Gua Hira. Tiga tahun setelah kejadian itu, baginda mula berdakwah secara terbuka kepada penduduk Makkah dengan mengatakan "Tuhan itu Esa" dan hendaklah menyerahkan diri sepenuhnya kepada Allah (secara harfiahnya membawa maksud Islam) dan ia adalah satu cara hidup (ad-Din) yang diterima Allah SWT sahaja. Nabi Muhammad SAW menerima beberapa orang pengikut pada awalnya yang terdiri daripada pelbagai golongan. Ajaran yang dibawa oleh baginda mendapat tentangan yang hebat dalam kalangan penduduk Makkah malahan mereka dilayan dengan teruk dan zalim. Oleh itu, Nabi Muhammad SAW telah menghantar beberapa orang pengikutnya ke Habsyah pada 614 M sebelum baginda dan pengikutnya lain di Makkah berhijrah ke Madinah (dahulu dikenali sebagai Yathrib) pada tahun 622 M. Peristiwa penghijrahan Muhammad itu menandakan permulaan bagi kalendar Islam atau takwim Hijrah. Di Madinah, Nabi Muhammad SAW telah menyatukan semua suku kaum dibawah Piagam Madinah.

I am a spider who is higher in rank than other spiders. With all humility, if all the spiders in this world were put in one hand and I was put in the other I would outweigh them in superiority. I am not one to make false claims and show-off, I am simply stating facts. I do not think that I need to introduce myself to the reader, for I am sure you understand that I am the spider of the cave that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) hid in. I am the one, who was responsible for the Prophet's deliverance. I am the one, who Allah sent to protect him. My web is very flimsy and light and the slightest breeze can blow it away. However, despite the weakness of my web, I managed to ward off the iron swords of the atheists that went out in pursuit of the Prophet, and moreover, I was able to defeat them! The outcome of the conflict between the spiders' weak silk and the iron of the swords was the defeat of iron. My house is considered a parable of weakness, "Verily, the frailest (weakest) of houses is the spider's house." I sat in my house protecting the noble house of Islam and guarding the Prophet of Allah, Muhammad ibn ' Abdullah (peace be upon him). That was not all that happened to me. Something even more wonderful happened; I saw the Prophet. I know that after the Prophet's death, millions will visit his grave to cry and pray.
