Book Kinematic Self Replicating Machines

Download or read book Kinematic Self Replicating Machines written by Robert A. Freitas and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a general review of the voluminous theoretical and experimental literature pertaining to physical self-replicating systems. The principal focus here is on self-replicating machine systems. Most importantly, we are concerned with kinematic self-replicating machines: systems in which actual physical objects, not mere patterns of information, undertake their own replication. Following a brief burst of activity in the 1950s and 1980s, the field of kinematic replicating systems design received new interest in the 1990s with the emerging recognition of the feasibility of molecular nanotechnology. The field has experienced a renaissance of research activity since 1999 as researchers have come to recognize that replicating systems are simple enough to permit experimental laboratory demonstrations of working devices.

Book Rise of the Self Replicators

Download or read book Rise of the Self Replicators written by Tim Taylor and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-30 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible to design robots and other machines that can reproduce and evolve? And, if so, what are the implications: for the machines, for ourselves, for our environment, and for the future of life on Earth and elsewhere? In this book the authors provide a chronological survey and comprehensive archive of the early history of thought about machine self-reproduction and evolution. They discuss contributions from philosophy, science fiction, science and engineering, and uncover many examples that have never been discussed in the Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Life literature before now. In the final chapter they provide a synthesis of the concepts discussed, offer their views on the field’s future directions, and call for a broad community discussion about the significant implications of intelligent evolving machines. The book will be of interest to general readers, and a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, and historians engaged with ideas in artificial intelligence, artificial life, robotics, and evolutionary computing.

Book Wearable Robots

Download or read book Wearable Robots written by José L. Pons and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wearable robot is a mechatronic system that is designed around the shape and function of the human body, with segments and joints corresponding to those of the person it is externally coupled with. Teleoperation and power amplification were the first applications, but after recent technological advances the range of application fields has widened. Increasing recognition from the scientific community means that this technology is now employed in telemanipulation, man-amplification, neuromotor control research and rehabilitation, and to assist with impaired human motor control. Logical in structure and original in its global orientation, this volume gives a full overview of wearable robotics, providing the reader with a complete understanding of the key applications and technologies suitable for its development. The main topics are demonstrated through two detailed case studies; one on a lower limb active orthosis for a human leg, and one on a wearable robot that suppresses upper limb tremor. These examples highlight the difficulties and potentialities in this area of technology, illustrating how design decisions should be made based on these. As well as discussing the cognitive interaction between human and robot, this comprehensive text also covers: the mechanics of the wearable robot and it’s biomechanical interaction with the user, including state-of-the-art technologies that enable sensory and motor interaction between human (biological) and wearable artificial (mechatronic) systems; the basis for bioinspiration and biomimetism, general rules for the development of biologically-inspired designs, and how these could serve recursively as biological models to explain biological systems; the study on the development of networks for wearable robotics. Wearable Robotics: Biomechatronic Exoskeletons will appeal to lecturers, senior undergraduate students, postgraduates and other researchers of medical, electrical and bio engineering who are interested in the area of assistive robotics. Active system developers in this sector of the engineering industry will also find it an informative and welcome resource.

Book Self Replicating Machine

Download or read book Self Replicating Machine written by Fouad Sabry and published by One Billion Knowledgeable. This book was released on 2023-07-02 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Is Self Replicating Machine A self-replicating machine is a sort of autonomous robot that is capable of reproducing itself autonomously utilizing raw materials available in the environment. As a result, a self-replicating machine demonstrates self-replication in a manner that is akin to that which may be found in nature. The idea of self-replicating machines has been developed and investigated by Homer Jacobson, Edward F. Moore, Freeman Dyson, John von Neumann, and Konrad Zuse, as well as more recently by K. Eric Drexler in his book on nanotechnology titled Engines of Creation, as well as by Robert Freitas and Ralph Merkle in their review Kinematic Self-Replicating Machines, which provided the first comprehensive analysis of the entire replicator design space. The future development of such technology is an essential component of a number of schemes involving the extraction of ore and other resources from moons and asteroid belts, the establishment of manufacturing facilities on the moon, and even the building of solar power satellites in space. These plans are all reliant on the future progress of this technology. The von Neumann probe is a conceptual illustration of one hypothetical example of such a machine. In addition to this, Von Neumann worked on a project that he referred to as the universal constructor. This was a self-replicating machine that would be capable of evolving, and it was an environment that was codified using cellular automata. Notably, Von Neumann's Self-Reproducing Automata scheme proposed that in order for open-ended evolution to occur, inherited information must be copied and passed on to offspring in a manner that is distinct from the self-replicating machine. This realization came before Watson and Crick's discovery of the structure of the DNA molecule and how it is independently translated and replicated in the cell. Book Trajectory Planning for Automatic Machines and Robots

Download or read book Trajectory Planning for Automatic Machines and Robots written by Luigi Biagiotti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-10-23 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the problems related to planning motion laws and t- jectories for the actuation system of automatic machines, in particular for those based on electric drives, and robots. The problem of planning suitable trajectories is relevant not only for the proper use of these machines, in order to avoid undesired e?ects such as vibrations or even damages on the mech- ical structure, but also in some phases of their design and in the choice and sizing of the actuators. This is particularly true now that the concept of “el- tronic cams” has replaced, in the design of automatic machines, the classical approach based on “mechanical cams”. The choice of a particular trajectory has direct and relevant implications on several aspects of the design and use of an automatic machine, like the dimensioning of the actuators and of the reduction gears, the vibrations and e?orts generated on the machine and on the load, the tracking errors during the motion execution. For these reasons, in order to understand and appreciate the peculiarities of the di?erent techniques available for trajectory planning, besides the ma- ematical aspects of their implementation also a detailed analysis in the time and frequency domains, a comparison of their main properties under di?erent points of view, and general considerations related to their practical use are reported.
