Somebody was going to pay—and plenty. 8300 Words Dan Turner—Hollywood Detective, February 1943 MURDER'S BLUE MOTIVE by Robert Leslie Bellem Dan had little sympathy for the dead woman, and a lot for the girl with the pistol. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hero of a novel Buried Alive is Mr Priam Farll, a painter of considerable ability. He is, however, extremely shy – so shy that when his valet, Henry Leek, dies suddenly, the doctor believes the dead man to be Priam Farll and the live man the valet. The artist does not try to disabuse him. After the funeral , Priam Farll marries a widow and lives a happy life until the loss of his wife's money means he has to take up painting again. A connoisseur of art recognises his style but thinks the paintings are by an imposter. He makes a fortune by buying his works through a small dealer and selling them in America as genuine. Meanwhile Priam Farll refuses through his obstinate shyness to prove his own identity. The Old Wives Tale (1908), a novel set in part in the Potteries district of North Staffordshire, where Bennett grew up, is generally considered his single masterpiece. The Card is a short comic novel written by Arnold Bennett in 1911. It chronicles the rise of Edward Henry ("Denry") Machin from washerwoman's son to Mayor of Bursley (a fictitious town based on Burslem). This is accomplished through luck, initiative and a fair bit of chutzpah (in slang a card is a 'character', an 'original'; a clever, audacious, person). Arnold Bennett (1867-1931) was an English journalist, novelist, and writer. After working as a rent collector and solicitor's clerk, Bennett won a writing contest which convinced him to become a journalist. He later turned to the writing of novels, including his most famous Clayhanger and Anna of the five towns.

Book excerpt: Set amidst the 1990s in the Twin Cities - love, basketball, sex, David Lee Roth, dating, Snoopy, bar hopping, Camel Lights, and Evonne Goolagong collide to concoct this unique tale. Of course, these arent your typical ingredients for a comedy, but this isnt your typical comedy. This is the story of a jackass and how he becomes a real man. Life is a clever cocktail of interesting moments, sinister monotony, and sublime mistakes. Jamie Tembreaux, a struggling playwright in Minneapolis knows that all too well. Unlike the famous Peter Pan Syndrome, Jamie suffers from a different Disney Disorder altogether, The Pinocchio Syndrome, which can only be disclosed within the confines of this tale. Forcing Jamie to realize hes twenty-five and has never really been in love. Luckily for Jamie, he does have the support of his friends, but Trick Dunbar and Andrew Case are just as confused with their lives as Jamie seemingly is with his own. Torn between the fetching artist hes just met and an old flame who happens to be Andrews little sister, Jamie navigates the dangerous waters of bachelorhood without a clue. With the help of another friend from college Jo Fabre, Jamie searches for answers at the only place that makes sense to him - his childhood home. There, Jamie discovers where his life diverted from its natural path to an entirely new one. Jamie explores his past choices and their consequences like never before. He deflects his personal ordeals through the use of humor, thereby divulging uncompromising insight into the male psyche. The novel is a dizzying leap into the shallow end of the pool of life. And somewhere amidst the infinite spectrum between a Blue Fairy and a Great Whale lies a broken-hearted hero. A coming-of-age tale with a twist and a comedy with plenty of edge. HOT WINGS & RUG BURNS is a wild look at one of the scariest challenges facing young adults of any generation the opposite sex.

Book Swing Shorts Stories Wonders

Download or read book Swing Shorts Stories Wonders written by Tam Francis and published by Plum Creek Publishing. This book was released on 2018-09-26 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Music & Dance ~ Life & Love ~ Body & Soul The oldest stories ever told When an enthusiastic and talented mom auditions for a dance troupe, she finds unexpected discrimination and inequality at every step. All-girl colored band clarinetist, Korla, knows the police sirens are coming for her. Can she escape the Jim Crow Sheriff in time to play the USO show before he and the young deputy figure out what else the girls are hiding? After the perfect date in jazzy WWII San Francisco, an American boy searches for his Japanese girlfriend after the government orders all Japanese-Americans to an internment camp. Perceptions are skewed by hot swing rhythms in Night Club Feet. A vintage girl pines for a married dancer while a newbie guy lusts after her, each encumbered by ego and self-image. In 1943, too many men had enlisted or been drafted, leaving empty spots in the big band orchestras. Can seventeen-year-old ingénue, Moira, pass the audition, keep her too friendly bandleader at bay, and snatch one of the coveted positions in the all-girl band. A young couple becomes sidetracked by the musicians who play hot jazz alongside the petting zoo of piglets, ducks, and lambs on the family jaunt to the feed store. Will the bereaved young woman find the perfect place her mother told her about without being diverted by a mysterious handsome man and the swing music emerging from the hotel cantina where she stopped for the night? Those are just a few Swing Shorts that explore the transformative, transcendent, and often poignant bond we share with music and dance. Find your connection.
