Book Principles of Political Science Classic Reprint

Download or read book Principles of Political Science Classic Reprint written by Robert Niven Gilchrist and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 866 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Political Science As this book is meant to be a text-book for the earlier stages of political and economic studies I have not elaborate-d what may be called abnormal theories. A fair impersonal presentation of modern political theory has been my endeavour. Originally I meant to include several chapters on the history of political theory, but the book ran the danger of being overcrowded, so wherever possible I have incorporated historical sections in the individual subjects. The treatment of some subjects, e? The Government of Britain, and the Government of India, has been much more detailed than a first course of' political studies usually demands. Such detailed treatment is due to the nature of the course prescribed in India. Repetition of detail, e.g., under the Executive (chapter XVI), and under the individual governments (chapters XXI - XXVII) is also due to local exigencies. The chapter on the Government of Uapan, though not essential according to our local syllabus, is added to enable Indian students to know in outline the system of government in an eastern empire which for many years has created the deepest interest in India. The bibliography appended is intended as an initial guide. To Indian colleges wishing to start Political and Economic studies. The list has been compiled with reference to the sums usually available for such purposes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Little Statesman Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Little Statesman Classic Reprint written by Francis J. Schulte and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Little Statesman One of these vital questions, and the one which presents itself just now for immediate solution, is that of Money. The attitude of the two leading parties on this subject furnishes a most glaring instance of political dishonesty. In spite of the efforts of the politicians, however, the money question will not down, and that phase of it which appeals most strongly at this time to the people is the proposition to again open the mints to the free coinage of silver. Money is the public credit, stamped or imprinted upon, or represented by, metal, paper, or any other convenient substance recognized by law or usage, and employed as a medium of ex change and a measure of values. Money is money only so long and in so far as it represents the public credit. Moses, as well as the early fathers of the Christian Church, undoubtedly adopted this view of money when they denounced usury, which is the de vice whereby the drones in humanity's bee-hive, monopolizing the public credit, have in all ages exacted tribute from the workers. Excerpt: ... of Oneness and Allness as its two elements or primary factors. In the language of the old schools, Unity ] Omneity Totality. The Reason first manifests itself in man by the tendency to the comprehension of all as one. We can neither rest in an infinite that is not at the same time a whole, nor in a whole that is not infinite. Hence the natural Man is always in a state either of resistance or of captivity to the understanding and the fancy, which cannot represent totality without limit: and he either loses the One in the striving after the Infinite, (i. e. Atheism with or without polytheism) or the Infinite in the striving after the One, (i. e. anthropomorphic monotheism.) The rational instinct, therefore, taken abstractedly and unbalanced, did in itself, (' ye shall be as gods! Gen. iii. 5.) and in its consequences, (the lusts of the flesh, the eye, and the understanding, as in verse the sixth, ) form the original temptation, through which man fell: and in all ages has continued to originate the same, even from Adam, in whom we all fell, to the atheists who deified the human reason in the person of a harlot during the earlier period of the French revolution. To this tendency, therefore, Religion, as the consideration of the Particular and Individual (in which respect it takes up and identifies with itself the excelr lence of the Understanding) but of the Individual, as it exists and has its being in the Universal (in which respect it is one with the pure Reason, )--to this tendency, I say, Religion assigns the due limits, and is the echo of the 'voice of the Lord God walking in the garden.' Hence in all the ages and countries of civilization Religion has been the parent and fosterer of the Fine Arts, as of Poetry, Music, Painting, &c. the.
