Kenya The Beloved tells how white men came to Kenya as missionaries (Visitors) and turned to be colonialists. It tells how hospitable Kenyans were to have welcomed the Visitors, without knowing their hidden agenda. After realizing that the Visitors had ill-motives, the Africans united against him and started a revolt. This revolt did not take one face, as many might think. It took different people with different approaches to dismantle colonialism completely from Kenya. This is an important point that the book raises because many other books have been written pointing to only one movement called Mau-mau as being the only revolt that was used to oust colonialists. Kenya the Beloved says that that is not entirely true. The book also tells what was at stake and why the Africans of Kenya had to fight. In wildlife, the book tells that animals in Kenya were plenty and beautiful before and after the colonialists. He then tells how even these animals fought for freedom like every other Kenyan. The book illustrates how well and peaceful the country was before December 27, 2007 when it says ‘things fell apart’. Job does not leave you there stranded as to what to do next, he gives you hope. Job tells how things can be turned around for the better of all the people. He says that even though things have gone terribly wrong, people can still rise and mend fences for the future generation. Above all, this book is an historical account, of some events and freedom struggle for the people of Kenya. This is a book of hope. It is a book that tells vividly the way some people think and the practical way of solving our many problems in the world. Reading this book raises one’s hope and inspires action for the common good of all humanity. Job Ombati believes that if all men can think positive, if all men can start acting with love of one another, the world will be a better place for all to live in. It is with such kind of thinking that he wrote this small book, Kenya The Beloved. It will challenge and inspire you to the end.

Land has meant something fundamental in the sociocultural history of each country. Those concerns, however, have manifested into varied political events, and the range of struggles over land has spawned a multiplicity of literary interventions. While Kenya and Uganda were both British colonies, Kenya's experience of settler land alienation made for a much more violent response against efforts at political independence. Uganda's relatively calm unyoking from the colonial burden, however, led to a tumultuous post-independence. Tanzania, too, like Kenya and Uganda, resisted British colonial administration—after Germany's defeat in World War 1. In Writing on the Soil, author Ng’ang’a Wahu-Mũchiri argues that representations of land and landscape perform significant metaphorical labor in African literatures, and this argument evolves across several geographical spaces. Each chapter's analysis is grounded in a particular locale: western Kenya, colonial Tanganyika, post-independence Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Anam Ka'alakol (Lake Turkana), Kampala, and Kitgum in Northern Uganda. Moreover, each section contributes to a deeper understanding of the aesthetic choices that authors make when deploying tropes revolving around land, landscape, and the environment. Mũchiri disentangles the numerous connections between geography and geopolitical space on the one hand, and ideology and cultural analysis on the other. This book embodies a multi-layered argument in the sphere of African critical scholarship, while adding to the growing field of African land rights scholarship—an approach that foregrounds the close reading of Africa’s literary canon.

While in the service of Jamaica, Mr. Dundas, as the Technical Adviser to a Joint Select Committee of both Houses of Parliament, which dealt with constitutional and electoral reform, eventually became the first Director of Elections 1979-80. He has extensive experience in constitution drafting, particularly the provisions relating to election management bodies. He has given technical assistance in electoral matters in many countries, including Aceh, (Indonesia), Antigua & Barbuda, Botswana, Cayman Islands, Guyana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania/Zanzibar, and Zambia; and has been assigned to observe elections in many countries, including Bangladesh, Guyana, Kenya, Liberia, Malaysia, Malawi, Pakistan, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania/Zanzibar, and Zambia. He has also advised on election organization and management in Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, and Sierra Leone. Mr. Dundas led Commonwealth Secretariat’s electoral technical assistance missions to Guyana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania/Zanzibar, and Zambia. He carried out assignments in areas such as designing electoral frameworks for a neutral and impartial electoral management body, the establishment of instruments for the transition from a military one-party to a multiparty system, and has organised capacity-building seminars and workshops. Mr. Dundas was Chairman of the Electoral Boundary Delimitation Commission of the Cayman Islands in 2003 and 2010. As an Election Legal Consultant from 2001 to 2006, Mr. Dundas advised many election management bodies (EMBs) on reform and modernisation, including Aceh (Indonesia), Antigua & Barbuda, Botswana, Cayman Islands, Guyana, Lesotho, Liberia, Nigeria, and Tanzania. In 2006 to 2010, Mr. Dundas took up an appointment as the Chief of Party of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems’ (IFES’) and African Union Support Program (funded by USAID) to advise the African Union on the establishment of a Democracy and Electoral Assistance Unit. In 2011, he returned to private consultancy with an assignment from Commonwealth Secretariat as a consultant to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria and shortly thereafter he accepted an appointment as IFES’ Country Director in Nigeria.
