Book No One Wins Alone

Download or read book No One Wins Alone written by Mark Messier and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The legendary Hall of Fame hockey player and six-time Stanley Cup champion tells his complete story for the first time, sharing the lessons about leadership and teamwork that defined his career, in this “inspirational memoir that transcends sports” (David Grann, #1 New York Times bestselling author). Mark Messier is one of the most accomplished athletes in the history of professional sports. He was a fierce competitor with a well-earned reputation as a winner. But few people know his real story, not only of the astonishing journey he took to making NHL history, but of the deep understanding of leadership and respect for the power of teamwork he gained. Messier tells of his early years with his tight-knit family, learning especially from his father, Doug—a hockey player, coach, and teacher. He describes what it was like entering the NHL as a teenager with a wild side, and growing close with teammates Wayne Gretzky, Kevin Lowe, Paul Coffey, Glenn Anderson, and others during their high-flying dynasty years with the Edmonton Oilers. He chronicles summers spent looking for inspiration and renewed energy on trips to exotic destinations around the world. And he recounts the highs, lows, and hard work that brought the New York Rangers to the ultimate moment for a hockey club: lifting the Stanley Cup. Throughout, Messier shares insights about success, winning cultures, and how leaders can help teams overcome challenges. Told with heart and sincerity, No One Wins Alone “is about much more than just hockey. It has lessons anyone can use—be it in sports, business, or life” (Jack Nicklaus, PGA Major Championship winner and author of My Golden Lessons).

Book Air Force Cop An Autobiography

Download or read book Air Force Cop An Autobiography written by Kelly D. Harrison and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air Force Cop An Autobiography By: Kelly D. Harrison The enforcement of law in the US Armed Forces is covered by the Uniform Code of Military Justice and, when applicable, Title 18 of the US Code. There are other regulations and directives that can result in punitive action. The US Armed Forces is a US taxpayer funded enterprise with the US Army and US Navy almost as old as the nation itself. Crimes against property in the armed forces are not like that of breaking into a privately owned jewelry store in New York City, since all property “owned” by the military branches is property of the US Government. Military members and others who damage, destroy or steal property of the US Government and fellow military members are dealt with harshly. This includes those military members and civilians who commit murder, rape, acts of serious bodily injury and other “index crimes” such as auto theft, arson, kidnapping, etc., within the jurisdiction of the federal government. The US Armed Forces have several consolidated confinement facilities and the US Disciplinary Barracks at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Each military branch has their own police and investigative agencies for dealing with crimes against property and people. In the US Air Force, there are the Security Forces (previously known as Air Police and Security Police) for protection of base resources, traffic control enforcement and investigation of misdemeanor offenses. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) is a cadre of enlisted, officer and civilian special agents (all with Federal Law Enforcement Officer status) who are highly trained in specialties such as forensics, fraud, counter-intelligence, polygraph, computer crimes, electronic technical support (hidden cameras, electronic sweeping for covert recording devices, etc.) and general crimes such as arson, homicides, child abuse along with every other imaginable offense against property and people.

Focusing on the 2018 season, this book explores gender performance and sexuality in softball, how the influx of money from the sport's growth has reshaped expectations of success, and traditional media coverage of women's sports.

Download or read book Kriegie written by Oscar G. Richard III and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2000-05 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oscar G. Richard - a native of Sunshine, Louisiana -was not the usual World War II serviceman. After enlisting in the US Army Air Corps in 1942 and training diligently for many months, the B-17 bombardier spent only one week in combat. On his third and last mission - on January 14, 1944 - his plane was shot down over France and he was imprisoned by the Germans. Thus, like many in the Eighth Air Force in late 1943 and early 1944, he spent most of the war not in combat but in captivity. In this memoir, Richard describes his wartime experiences both before and after his capture, recounting the transformation of a fresh-faced recruit into a seasoned POW. Offering insight into the early days of soldier life, he chronicles his enlistment, the months he spent waiting on the home front for induction, and his training at various sites in the American West. He gives accounts of his bombing missions and relives his parachute escape from his doomed plane and his subsequent seizure. The book relates the path that most German-held POWs, or "kriegies", took after capture: from the front lines to solitary confinement and interrogation at Dulag Luft, through a long and uncertain journey through Germany, to the final destination - for Richard, Stalag Luft 1, near Barth on the Baltic coast.

Book The Particulars of Peter

  • Release : 2020-12-08
  • ISBN : 1538717859
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book The Particulars of Peter written by Kelly Conaboy and published by Grand Central Publishing. This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This might be one of the month’s, if not the year’s, sweetest books — zaniest, too.” ―The Washington Post "A hilarious addition to the dogoir canon.” ―People "Perhaps the greatest love story ever told.” ―Refinery29 "The feel-good book the world needs." —PopSugar From one of the Internet's most original voices, a hilarious journey through the odd corners of obsessive dog ownership and the author's own infatuation with her perfect dog Peter. The author met Peter in the spring of 2017. He -- calm, puppy-eyed, with the heart of a poet and the soul of, also, a poet -- came to her first as a foster. He was unable to stay with his previously assigned foster for reasons that are none of your business, but which we will tell you were related to frequent urination. The rescue needed someone free of the sort of responsibilities that would force her to regularly leave the house for either work or socializing, and a writer was the natural choice. Thus began a love story for the ages. The Particulars of Peter is a funny exploration of the joy found in loving a dog so much it makes you feel like you're going to combust, and the author's potentially codependent relationship with her own sweet dog, Peter. Readers will follow Peter and his owner to Woofstock, "the largest outdoor festival for dogs in North America," and accompany them to lessons in Canine Freestyle, a sport where dogs perform a routine set to music, creating the illusion that they're dancing with their owners. From learning about Peter's DNA, to seeing if dogs can sense the presence of ghosts, The Particulars of Peter will give readers a smart, entertaining respite from the harsh world of humans into the funny little world of dogs. Readers will accompany this lovable duo through exciting trips, lessons, quiet moments of connection, and probably a failure or two. By fusing memoir and infotainment, The Particulars of Peter promises to refresh the perennially popular dog lit category in a scrumptiously bighearted barnstormer of a book.
