Book Keeping in Touch with the Other Side

Download or read book Keeping in Touch with the Other Side written by Pauline DiBenedetto and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pauline Di Benedetto, who was raised in Brooklyn, New York, and now resides in North Attleborough, Massachusetts, says she received her gift of writing at the age of fifteen. While she was saying her prayers, her words began to rhyme. That was when she knew that writing was her purpose in life. She has written several poems and songs in her life which she shared with her family and friends. Through her trials in life, Pauline felt the need to help others by inspiring them to have faith. She published her first book with us titled, Faith Through the Eyes of a Child which is available on Amazon and can be ordered in any brick-and-mortar stores. Pauline believes this book, Keeping in Touch with the Other Side, is "the one" that was truly "meant to be written." In this book, she has included Bible verses, along with a poem after each chapter, which give an inspirational message. Although she hesitated to write this book, she felt as though she was "pushed" into it when she fell and fractured her foot. That's when she finally "got the message." Although she would like to keep her private life "private," Pauline says that she must follow her "inner spirit." She also states that she didn't write these books alone. She believes "St. Therese" is her ghost writer and guardian angel who guides her through these books and through her life. Is she "right"? Who will be the "judge"?

People caught up in storms, earthquakes, floods, and the like have a story to tell, none so mystical as what it might be like to travel through space and especially through time. William (Bill) and Henry (Hank) are two high school students who have that experience: first, when they meet Winston, a visitor from the nineteenth century, and later when all of them are transported from their twenty-first century lives to the nineteenth century, a land caught up fighting in the Civil War. Are they forever trapped in nineteenth-century America? What effect will the customs of the nineteenth century have on them if they are ever fortunate enough to be transported back to the twenty-first century? This story helps determine the direction of our lives.

The authors also share their expert understanding of child and adolescent development and how this relates to the appeal of digital media, with special attention paid to the importance of good communication. The end result is a toolbox for parents, full of tips, strategies and techniques designed to help navigate the digital world, ensuring it is safe yet still exciting for young people. Book Children and the Internet

Download or read book Children and the Internet written by Sonia Livingstone and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-05-06 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is the internet really transforming children and young people’s lives? Is the so-called ‘digital generation’ genuinely benefiting from exciting new opportunities? And, worryingly, facing new risks? This major new book by a leading researcher addresses these pressing questions. It deliberately avoids a techno-celebratory approach and, instead, interprets children’s everyday practices of internet use in relation to the complex and changing historical and cultural conditions of childhood in late modernity. Uniquely, Children and the Internet reveals the complex dynamic between online opportunities and online risks, exploring this in relation to much debated issues such as: Digital in/exclusion Learning and literacy Peer networking and privacy Civic participation Risk and harm Drawing on current theories of identity, development, education and participation, this book includes a refreshingly critical account of the challenging realities undermining the great expectations held out for the internet - from governments, teachers, parents and children themselves. It concludes with a forward-looking framework for policy and regulation designed to advance children’s rights to expression, connection and play online as well as offline.

Book The Other Side of the Fence

Download or read book The Other Side of the Fence written by Sheila Croucher and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A growing number of Americans, many of them retirees, are migrating to Mexico's beach resorts, border towns, and picturesque heartland. While considerable attention has been paid to Mexicans who immigrate to the U.S., the reverse scenario receives little scrutiny. Shifting the traditional lens of North American migration, The Other Side of the Fence takes a fascinating look at a demographic trend that presents significant implications for the United States and Mexico. The first in-depth account of this trend, Sheila Croucher's study describes the cultural, economic, and political lives of these migrants of privilege. Focusing primarily on two towns, San Miguel de Allende in the mountains and Ajijic along the shores of Lake Chapala, Croucher depicts the surprising similarities between immigrant populations on both sides of the border. Few Americans living in Mexico are fluent in the language of their new land, and most continue to practice the culture and celebrate the national holidays of their homeland, maintaining close political, economic, and social ties to the United States while making political demands on Mexico, where they reside. Accessible, timely, and brimming with eye-opening, often ironic, findings, The Other Side of the Fence brings an important perspective to borderlands debates.

Book Finding God in Unexpected Places

Download or read book Finding God in Unexpected Places written by Rabbi Jack Riemer and published by Read the Spirit Books. This book was released on 2018-01-19 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Rabbi Riemer offers us the kind of wisdom that we need in order to survive and thrive,” writes Dr. Bernie Siegel, best-selling author of a dozen books about spirituality and healing. The late Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel adds, “Jack Riemer’s words are songs of hope and faith. Listen to them as I do.” Widely sought after as a master storyteller and teacher, Riemer is one of the most frequently quoted rabbis in the U.S. That’s because of the winding paths he takes in describing the relevance of timeless Jewish wisdom in our modern world. What do a professional baseball player, Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry box, a hurricane, a garbage dump and a blue blazer hanging in your closet have to do with each other? They’re all turning points in Riemer’s stories that lead us toward universal questions we all confront at some point in life, including: Is there a dream that gives meaning to your life? What are our duties to the people we love? How do you make a decision when you’re caught between two conflicting values? And, what would you do if you found out that your time on this earth was almost up? Reflecting on Riemer’s wisdom about life, retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor writes that the rabbi “is obviously a person with much understanding of the human situation.” Word of warning: The stories in this book may surprise you and perhaps make you chuckle, but they could change your life, as well.
