Book Staying Afloat in a Sea of Forgetfulness

Download or read book Staying Afloat in a Sea of Forgetfulness written by Gary Joseph LeBlanc and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-06-02 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When my father was first diagnosed with Alzheimers, I read and researched everything I could get my hands on about the disease. Right off the bat I could tell if it was written by a physician, pharmaceutical company or even a nursing home. When caregivers are looking for help, the last thing they need is medical text so complex they already forgot what they read by the time its laid back down. This is what got me started on writing about common sense caregiving, which turned into a weekly column and now into this book. My goal is to make this book as caregiver friendly as possible. Sharing my triumphs and hardships from my plus three-thousand day campaign in dealing with the disease of Alzheimers and the world of memory-impairment. Gary Joseph LeBlanc is a columnist, speaker and book dealer from Spring Hill, Florida. He was the primary caregiver of his beloved father stricken with Alzheimers disease for nearly the past decade. LeBlancs weekly column appears in the Hernando Today, a Tampa Tribune Publication and other health publications. His writings offer insight and hope through his own journey of caregiving, dealing with the memory-impaired, given in a caregiver friendly manner.

Book Staying Afloat

Download or read book Staying Afloat written by Steve Burton and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-09-20 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When author Steve Burton heard the plan for transforming a relatively untouched bird sanctuary in the Middle Eastern emirate of Abu Dhabi into a complex, global entertainment and premier yachting destination within thirty months, he thought the idea was impossible. The Rulers believed otherwise. It will be done. Burton was tasked with performing at the highest level and not sweating the small stufflike money. No was removed from his vocabulary. Those were the rules. Deadlines were another one. It was no small endeavor. Recognized as one of todays premier marina development specialists, Burton was hired by Abu Dhabis flagship real estate development company in 2007. In Staying Afloat he narrates an account of cross-cultural encounters, stratospheric expectations, unimaginable obstacles, and hilarious day-to-day experiences faced as an American expatriate living for three years in one of the wealthiest and most culturally diverse countries on the planet in the midst of the worlds most politically volatile regions. Staying Afloat conveys a unique blend of cultural insight, candor, and wit while communicating that an open mind, a keen sense of humor, and a supreme level of patience and determination are indispensable for living and working in a foreign country.

Download or read book Keeping Afloat written by Millicent Travis Lane and published by Guernica Editions. This book was released on 2001 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'In her new collection, Travis Lane speaks of the 'impermanent elation' that 'a word, / like a live fish in water, sometimes shows'. The language of 'Keeping Afloat' flashes with wit, sensuousness, and a combination of faith (elation) and scepticism (impermanence). In a time when too many poets favour fragments or the plainest syntax, it's also a relief to read the aphorism 'To read the sentence is to resist fellowship, ' from a poet whose own style is welcoming and gymnastic in its joinings and its jumps.' - Brian Bartlett

Book Make Do and Mend

  • Author :
  • Publisher : Michael O'Mara Books
  • Release : 2014-03-24
  • ISBN : 1782433031
  • Pages : 1 pages

Download or read book Make Do and Mend written by and published by Michael O'Mara Books. This book was released on 2014-03-24 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rationing period during World War II was a difficult time, and yet it is remembered nostalgically as a time of unity and great sacrifice. Make Do and Mend focuses on clothes rationing, which was introduced in June 1940. With the nation's industrial output concentrated on the war effort, basic clothes were in short supply and high fashion was an unknown commodity. Adults were issued as little as 36 coupons a year to spend on clothes. But a man's suit could cost 22 coupons, a coat 16 and a lady's dress 11, so the need to recycle clothing and be inventive with other materials became a necessity. The government issued the leaflets included in Make Do and Mend to advise on how best to avoid wasting valuable resources by recycling curtains into dresses and old sheets into underwear; in short how to 'make do and mend' rather than buying new clothes. Produced from original material held in archives the leaflets are also a nostalgic showcase of forties style.
