Book Keep Watch at the Door of my Lips

Download or read book Keep Watch at the Door of my Lips written by Brandy R. Francis and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2024-03-14 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout her life, God has shown Brandy R . Francis just how powerful words can be-for good or for bad. Why? In Genesis 1, God used words to speak all of creation into existence. Furthermore, He created human beings in His image and likeness. That means God delegated the authority of the spoken word to humanity so that we could rule and reign. Just as He declared things into existence, we declare things into existence through the words we speak. We have the power to manifest the world we want to see around us. In each chapter of Keep Watch at the Door of my Lips, Brandy will share stories from her life about times when she discovered the power and authority of words. She will match those stories with teaching from Scripture and provide a guided prayer so that you can better understand the authority God has given you on the earth and begin to be more mindful of the words you speak over yourself, your family, and those around you.

Book excerpt: Kind, encouraging, and humorous, Karen Ehman helps us learn the essential practice of using our words more effectively--alleviating heartache and regret, reducing relational tension and conflict, lessening our stress levels, and growing our relationship with God. From Bible times to modern times women have struggled with their words. What to say and how to say it. What not to say. When it is best to remain silent. And what to do when you've said something you wish you could now take back. In this book a woman whose mouth has gotten her into loads of trouble shares the hows (and how-not-tos) of dealing with the tongue. Beyond just a "how not to gossip" book, this book explores what the Bible says about the many ways we are to use our words and the times when we are to remain silent. Karen will cover using our speech to interact with friends, co-workers, family, and strangers as well as in the many places we use our words in private, in public, online, and in prayer. Even the words we say silently to ourselves. She will address unsolicited opinion-slinging, speaking the truth in love, not saying words just to people-please, and dealing with our verbal anger. Christian women struggle with their mouths. Even though we know that Scripture has much to say about how we are--and are not--to use our words, this is still an immense issue, causing heartache and strain not only in family relationships, but also in friendships, work, and church settings. Also available: Keep It Shut small group video study and study guide.

Book The Letters of Jesus

  • Author : Tom Kingery
  • Publisher : WestBow Press
  • Release : 2021-01-08
  • ISBN : 1664217525
  • Pages : 130 pages

Download or read book The Letters of Jesus written by Tom Kingery and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-01-08 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Letters of Jesus plums the depths of Revelation 2-3, where Jesus, in a vision to John, dictates letters to seven churches in Asia. He calls on the people of the congregations to repent of particular sins, generally common to all people. He commends them for the right things they are doing, and He promises special blessings in each case. By highlighting the seven letters of the Revelation, Tom Kingery relays an urgent call to repentance. There is almost a now-or-never tone in the words of each letter. Ultimately, the apocalypse offers more light than darkness—especially by the time you’ve read The Revelation to the end. The world has always been full of woe, but it is full of inspiration and hope as well. Kingery brings the words of each letter down to earth and makes them relate well to our human condition. We can all gain something from what he has to say about the letters.

Book Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament

Download or read book Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament written by G. Johannes Botterweck and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1974 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multivolume work is still proving to be as fundamental to Old Testament studies as its companion set, the Kittel-Friedrich Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, has been to New Testament studies. Beginning with father, and continuing through the alphabet, the TDOT volumes present in-depth discussions of the key Hebrew and Aramaic words in the Old Testament. Leading scholars of various religious traditions (including Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, Anglican, Greek Orthodox, and Jewish) and from many parts of the world (Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States) have been carefully selected for each article by editors Botterweck, Ringgren, and Fabry and their consultants, George W. Anderson, Henri Cazelles, David Noel Freedman, Shemaryahu Talmon, and Gerhard Wallis. The intention of the writers is to concentrate on meaning, starting from the more general, everyday senses and building to an understanding of theologically significant concepts. To avoid artificially restricting the focus of the articles, TDOT considers under each keyword the larger groups of words that are related linguistically or semantically. The lexical work includes detailed surveys of a word s occurrences, not only in biblical material but also in other ancient Near Eastern writings. Sumerian, Akkadian, Egyptian, Ethiopic, Ugaritic, and Northwest Semitic sources are surveyed, among others, as well as the Qumran texts and the Septuagint; and in cultures where no cognate word exists, the authors often consider cognate ideas. TDOT s emphasis, though, is on Hebrew terminology and on biblical usage. The contributors employ philology as well as form-critical and traditio-historical methods, with the aim of understanding the religious statements in the Old Testament. Extensive bibliographical information adds to the value of this reference work. This English edition attempts to serve the needs of Old Testament students without the linguistic background of more advanced scholars; it does so, however, without sacrificing the needs of the latter. Ancient scripts (Hebrew, Greek, etc.) are regularly transliterated in a readable way, and meanings of foreign words are given in many cases where the meanings might be obvious to advanced scholars. Where the Hebrew text versification differs from that of English Bibles, the English verse appears in parentheses. Such features will help all earnest students of the Bible to avail themselves of the manifold theological insights contained in this monumental work.

Book Lessons for the Christian s Daily Walk

Download or read book Lessons for the Christian s Daily Walk written by George Mylne and published by Darolt Books. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lessons for the Christian's Daily Walk Devotional and Practical Meditations on the Book of Ecclesiastes George Mylne, 1859 Editor's note: This is the best devotional commentary on the book of Ecclesiastes that we have ever come across! In each verse which he comments on, George Mylne first views the verse just as Solomon intended from the perspective of mere human wisdom. That is, the book of Ecclesiastes is simply God's record of the rational conclusions of the wisest and most experienced man who ever lived. In other words, Solomon seriously thought upon all of life, the world and everything in it and concluded that all are puzzling enigmas, emptiness, vanity, meaningless, purposeless, futile, hopeless, vexatious, unsatisfying, unjust, etc., etc. Secondly, Mylne then views each verse from the Christian perspective that is, through the lens of the cross of Jesus. From this perspective, all the enigmas are solved, all the meaninglessness and futility of life is removed, and all the injustices are rectified. Only through the cross, does life become meaningful, purposeful and satisfying!
