Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Luke O'Neill has become one of the most well-known and trusted voices of Ireland's COVID-19 pandemic, thrust into the spotlight as we struggled to make sense of a crisis that saw the country grind to a halt. In these personal diaries, Luke reveals what life was like behind the scenes as he endeavoured to keep calm and trust that the science would save us. Luke's lockdown diaries show the highs and lows of work at the cutting edge in his Trinity College lab, as well as his experience of the disappointments and the breakthroughs in science around the world, and ultimately the contribution scientists made to the health outcomes of millions globally. Shot through with the natural positivity and humour that have made Luke a home-grown hero, Keep Calm and Trust the Science is a compelling account of a dramatic year in Irish history from one of its key players.

Book excerpt: A passionate and illicit affair awakens the sexual fire of a repressed man and an untouched woman. Moving to a small town in Vermont was a fresh start for Sarah Clarke, an author struggling with writer's block. The reason for the change of scenery was to focus on her manuscript, but an innocent dinner party connects her to a man, who starts to dominate her sexual fantasies. She’s instantly drawn to the local priest and her lustful desire for him leads her into forbidden territory. It was a time of crisis for Father Ben Michaels, a man deeply devoted to his faith. Recent doubts make him question his dedication. His quiet, orderly life is suddenly upended by the arrival of a mysterious woman to his town. He becomes enthralled by her and cannot resist the temptation to live a double life of being a good shepherd and pursuing sinful passion. What starts out as lustful infatuation blossoms into an erotic journey that will end in an intimate liberation.

Download or read book Willie written by Willie Nelson and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2000 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nelson, self-proclaimed "outlaw'' of country music, is depicted from many angles in this rambling account of his trajectory into celebrity. Written with freelancer Shrake in salty and sometimes vulgar language, Nelson's reflections on his three wives, children, his country music peers and others in his large, floating entourage reveal a hard-living man. The singer toiled in the fields as a child during the Depression, was left by his teenage parents with grandparents who raised him and his sister in Texas. The experience was pivotal to his career: "My desire to escape from manual labor started in the cotton fields of my childhood and cannot be overstated.'' Nelson began his road life as "an itinerant singer and guitar picker'' on trips punctuated with alcohol, drugs and sex as he climbed to eminence in the world of country music. Now "crossed over,'' popular with national audiences, Nelson notes that he enjoys all the personal perquisites of his success. Among his revelations here, the singer recalls smoking pot on the roof of the White House after entertaining at a Carter state dinner. Photos not seen by PW. BOMC and QPBC alternates; first serial to Texas Monthly and Golf Digest; paperback rights to Pocket Books. (October) - Publishers Weekly.

Download or read book Plumber s Gap written by Marion Dees and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author's name is Marion Michael Dees. He is sixty-four years old. He has worked in construction of one kind or another for most of his life, about forty-five years. Back in November of 2020, he found out he had a blood clot in his lungs and went into AFib. He was in and out of the hospital until August of 2021, when they finally did a procedure to stop his heart from going into AFib. During this time, he had a lot of downtime when he could not work or had to work from home. It was during this time that he started writing this book. Because of his love for South Dakota, he wanted to make his story about that area and its history. Although this is a fictional story with some actual facts, much liberation has been taken. However, it is based on actual locations and times that reflect the kind of events that could happen and some that did happen during this period. He hopes the readers will enjoy their journey back in time. He thanks them for reading his book.

Download or read book Mr Tall written by Tony Earley and published by Hachette+ORM. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Mr.Tall, his first story collection in two decades, Tony Earley brings us seven rueful, bittersweet, riotous studies of characters both ordinary and mythical, seeking to make sense of the world transforming around them. He demonstrates once again the prodigious storytelling gifts that have made him one of the most accomplished writers of his generation. In the title story, a lonely young bride terrifyingly shares a remote mountain valley with a larger-than-life neighbor, while the grieving widow of "The Cryptozoologist" is sure she's been visited by a Southern variant of Bigfoot. "Have You Seen the Stolen Girl?" introduces us to the ghost of Jesse James, who plagues an elderly woman in the wake of a neighborhood girl's abduction. In "Haunted Castles of the Barrier Islands" a newly empty-nest couple stumbles through an impenetrable Outer Banks fog seeking a new life to replace the one they have lost, while "Yard Art" follows the estranged wife of a famous country singer as she searches for an undiscovered statue by an enigmatic artist. In the concluding novella, "Jack and the Mad Dog," we find Jack-the giant killer of the stories-in full flight from threats both canine and existential. Earley indelibly maps previously undiscovered territories of the human heart in these melancholy, comic, and occasionally strange stories. Along the way he leads us on a journey from contemporary Nashville to a fantastical land of talking dogs and flying trees, teaching us at every step that, even in the most familiar locales, the ordinary is never just that.
