Danni hadn’t expected Keene to show up, especially when the storm took out the guy’s pickup. But their troubles were only getting started. A stranger showed up at Danni’s house, looking for shelter from the storm, and Danni’s life would never be the same again. Keene Diamond had always had a thing for the little human. So when his brother Damien told him Danni needed a ride, Keene was more than happy to oblige. One disaster after another made Keene question his own damn sanity, until he discovered that Danni was his mate. Now Keene had to stop a deranged killer who wanted Danni all to himself. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You can’t look at the mixed lineup of this lot and not ask yourself what is it that makes a man compelling? One universal might be pulling power. Warren Beatty with a hair drier or 007 with a Walther PPK both did a brisk trade in the sack and again we return to the mystique of Valentino, to pose a threat the volcano needs to be active not just a smoking threat. Hard men are good to find, or that is at least what Hollywood has learnt and yet each generation of Hunk Sapiens mutates subtly. The stars that we loved in the 80s and 90s are middle aged men now and to some degree they fought for better roles with more depth of character, breaking the mould of grunty action hero or merely handsome romantic lead. This is true of the thinking woman's love Gods, Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson, Richard Gere and Viggo Mortensen but of little concern to the likes of Sly, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mel Gibson the three icons of unreconstructed muscled manhood as famous for their off screen alpha rage as their onscreen battles. Book excerpt: [Siren Publishing: The Lynn Hagen ManLove Collection: Erotic Romance, Contemporary, Alternative, Shape-shifters, Paranormal, Western, MM, HEA] The Diamond Ranch had been in their family for five generations. That was until Scott Diamond happened. Damien’s father turned into a full-fledged drunk and had leveraged their business until they were close to filling bankruptcy. There was only one way to save it, and that was for Damien to go groveling to Henry Miller, his childhood best friend turned enemy. Only Damien got more than he bargained for, changing his life forever. No one knew that Henry’s business was failing. His father, who was dying of prostate cancer, had forbid him to tell anyone. Henry wasn’t sure what he was going to do to stay afloat, until Damien Diamond knocked on his door. They had been inseparable since childhood, but Henry had ruined that three summers ago. Now his uncle was there, causing trouble on the Miller Ranch. Not only was Damien a bear shifter, but now Henry was pregnant with his child and in deeper trouble than he could ever imagine. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book ... emphasizes the role of economic factors in the conditions that lead to state collapse, give rise to and sustain conflict, and complicate peacebuilding." The book argues that "existing state-level focus tends to ignore the role of regional linkages in permitting and sustaining conflict and as obstacles to transformation." Furthermore that, "the focus on the dynamics of conflict in states of the developing world tends to artificially distance the outside, predominantly "Western" world from their genesis and evolution ..." Download or read book War and Embodied Memory written by Maria Berghs and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-17 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you become an 'amputee', 'war-wounded', 'victim' or 'disabled' person? This book describes how an amputee and war-wounded community was created after a decade long conflict (1991-2002) in Sierra Leone. Beginning with a general socio-cultural and historical analysis of what is understood by impairment and disability, it also explains how disability was politically created both during the conflict and post-conflict, as violence became part of the everyday. Despite participating in the neoliberal rebuilding of the nation state, ex-combatants and the security of the nation were the government’s main priorities, not amputee and war-wounded people. In order to survive, people had to form partnerships with NGOs and participate in new discourses and practices around disability and rights, thus accessing identities of 'disabled' or 'persons with disabilities'. NGOs, charities and religious organisations that understood impairment and disability were most successful at aiding this community of people. However, since discourse and practice on disability were mainly bureaucratic, top-down, and not democratic about mainstreaming disability, neoliberal organisations and INGOs have caused a new colonisation of consciousness, and amputee and war-wounded people have had to become skilled in negotiating these new forms of subjectivities to survive.

Download or read book The Cloudbuster Nine written by Anne R. Keene and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-04-06 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1943, while the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals were winning pennants and meeting in that year's World Series, Ted Williams, Johnny Pesky, and Johnny Sain practiced on a skinned-out college field in the heart of North Carolina. They and other past and future stars formed one of the greatest baseball teams of all time. They were among a cadre of fighter-pilot cadets who wore the Cloudbuster Nine baseball jersey at an elite Navy training school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a child, Anne Keene's father, Jim Raugh, suited up as the team batboy and mascot. He got to know his baseball heroes personally, watching players hit the road on cramped, tin-can buses, dazzling factory workers, kids, and service members at dozens of games, including a war-bond exhibition with Babe Ruth at Yankee Stadium. Jimmy followed his baseball dreams as a college All-American but was crushed later in life by a failed major-league bid with the Detroit Tigers. He would have carried this story to his grave had Anne not discovered his scrapbook from a Navy school that shaped America's greatest heroes including George H. W. Bush, Gerald Ford, John Glenn, and Paul "Bear" Bryant. With the help of rare images and insights from World War II baseball veterans such as Dr. Bobby Brown and Eddie Robinson, the story of this remarkable team is brought to life for the first time in The Cloudbuster Nine: The Untold Story of Ted Williams and the Baseball Team That Helped Win World War II.

Download or read book Licence to Thrill written by James Chapman and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-04-18 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this new edition of Licence To Thrill, James Chapman builds upon the success of his classic work, regarded as the definitive scholarly study of the history of the James Bond film series from the first picture, Dr No (1962), to the present. He considers the origins of the films in the spy thrillers of Ian Fleming and examines the production histories of the films in the contexts of the British and international film industries. This edition includes a new introduction and chapters on Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021). Chapman explores how the films have changed over time in response to developments in the wider film culture and society at large. He charts the ever-evolving Bond formula, analysing the films' representations of nationhood, class, and gender in a constantly shifting cinematic and ideological landscape.

Download or read book The Man with the Golden Touch written by Sinclair McKay and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2010-08-05 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yet the role of James Bond, which transformed Sean Connery’s career in 1962 when Dr No came out, still retained its star-making power in 2006 when Daniel Craig made his Bond debut in Casino Royale. This is the story of how, with the odd misstep along the way, the owners of the Bond franchise, Eon Productions, have contrived to keep James Bond abreast of the zeitgeist and at the top of the charts for 45 years, through 21 films featuring six Bonds, three M’s, two Q’s and three Moneypennies. Thanks to the films, Fleming’s original creation has been transformed from a black sheep of the post-war English upper classes into a figure with universal appeal, constantly evolving to keep pace with changing social and political circumstances. Having interviewed people concerned with all aspects of the films, Sinclair McKay is ideally placed to describe how the Bond ‘brand’ has been managed over the years as well as to give us the inside stories of the supporting cast of Bond girls, Bond villains, Bond cars and Bond gadgetry. Sinclair McKay, formerly assistant features editor of the Daily Telegraph, works as a freelance writer and journalist. He is also the author of A Thing of Unspeakable Horror: The History of Hammer Films, which the Guardian called ‘A splendid history’ and the Independent on Sunday described as ‘Brisk, cheerful and enthusiastic.’
