Book Public Private Partnership Monitor Kazakhstan

Download or read book Public Private Partnership Monitor Kazakhstan written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2022-12-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Government of Kazakhstan considers public-private partnership (PPP) as an important source of infrastructure funding and service delivery; thus, it continues to improve the legal mechanisms of PPP, develop its institutional setup, and structure pilot projects. PPP has been employed at the central and local government levels to deliver economic and social infrastructure including education, healthcare, transport, power, housing, and public utilities. However, many of these projects are small-scale and short-term. Kazakhstan has adopted the Law on Concessions defining the concept of PPP and a separate PPP Law. The government has established a two-tier institutional structure to support the deployment of PPPs—on the national and the regional level. The most prominent of them are the PPP Center, acting as the adviser to the government, Turar Healthcare and Financial Center, assisting with project development.

Book Analysing Kazakhstan s Foreign Policy

Download or read book Analysing Kazakhstan s Foreign Policy written by Luca Anceschi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the roles that ideas and constructs associated with Eurasia have played in the making of Kazakhstan's foreign policy during the Nazarbaev era. This book delves into the specific Eurasia-centric narratives through which the regime, headed by Nursultan Nazarbaev, imagined the role of post-Soviet Kazakhstan in the wider Eurasian geopolitical space. Based on substantive fieldwork and sustained engagement with primary sources, the book unveils the power implications of Kazakhstani neo-Eurasianism, arguing that the strengthening of the regime's domestic power ranked highly in the list of objectives pursued by Kazakhstani foreign policy between the collapse of the Soviet Union and Nazarbaev's apparent withdrawal from the Kazakhstani political scene (19 March 2019). This book, ultimately, is a study of inter-state integration, which makes use of a rigorous methodological approach to assess different incarnations of post-Soviet multilateralism, from the Commonwealth of Independent States to the more recent, and highly controversial, Eurasian Economic Union. This book offers a ground-breaking analysis of Kazakhstani foreign policy in the Nazarbaev era. It will be of interest to students and scholars of Central Asian Politics, International Relations and Security Studies.

It provides critical perspectives on international relations, nationalism, and national identity through the use of innovative approaches focusing on popular culture, new media, public diplomacy, and alternative "narrators" of the nation. Book The Transformation Of The Kazakh Identity

Download or read book The Transformation Of The Kazakh Identity written by Alparslan Özkan and published by Net Kitaplık Yayıncılık. This book was released on with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “…In the Kazakh case, the historical contradiction between the state policies and nomadic society resulted in massive population loss of nomadic Kazakhs in 1930s. The nomadic economy and social order were destroyed. Although nomadic Kazakhs showed great resistance to the collectivization process much more than other periods, their resistance eventually failed. In this failure, both the military power of the Soviet state and the 19th century destruction of the Kazakh zhuzes and the asabiyyah based on nomadism played a major role. Therefore, the regional and fragmented struggle of the Kazakhs did not turn into a mass resistance. This case, which was the last widespread war between the nomadic and settled world in recent history, resulted in the destruction of the whole nomadic life of the “Asian half-man half-horse” in Kazakhstan.”

Book The Digital Silk Road

  • Author : David Gordon
  • Publisher : Taylor & Francis
  • Release : 2022-11-29
  • ISBN : 1000885208
  • Pages : 107 pages

Download or read book The Digital Silk Road written by David Gordon and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-29 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concerns about China’s ambitions to return to global centre stage as a great power have recently begun to focus on the Digital Silk Road (DSR), an umbrella term for various activities – commercial and diplomatic – of interest to the Chinese government in the cyber realm. Part of (or a spin-off from) the 2013 Belt and Road Initiative, by 2020 the DSR had become a focal point of China’s foreign policy. But the DSR remains ill-defined and poorly understood. At the heart of such concerns is not that Chinese technology companies are becoming globally competitive, but rather that Beijing could use them to ‘rewire’ the global digital architecture, from physical cables to code. Dominance by Chinese technology could shift global norms from a free cyber commons to competing systems of cyber sovereignty or cyber freedom. This Adelphi book brings together eight experts to examine the development of the DSR, explore its impact on economics, security and governance in recipient countries, and assess the broader impact on patterns of economic and technological dependence, on the emerging rules and norms of tech globalisation, and on global geopolitics and great-power relations. Beijing has grasped the opportunity to leverage the entrepreneurial strengths of its private tech sector to gain prominence in the world’s digital ecosystem. But the more interventionist Beijing becomes, the more Chinese firms will be seen as instruments of the state, and the greater the pushback against Chinese technology and the DSR may be. To achieve great-power status and global centrality, Beijing might ultimately need to change tack. How it innovates in further rolling out Chinese tech across the world, and what the DSR will then look like, will have far-reaching impacts on global economics, politics and security.

Book Strategic Narratives Ontological Security and Global Policy

Download or read book Strategic Narratives Ontological Security and Global Policy written by Thomas Colley and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-14 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strategic Narratives, Ontological Security and Global Policy provides a pathbreaking account of why some states successfully convince others to join their policy initiatives, and why others fail. Examining China’s Belt and Road Initiative and COVID-19, Thomas Colley and Carolijn van Noort argue that strategic narratives can help persuade states to join global policy initiatives if they convincingly promise audiences material gain while avoiding undermining their ontological security. They make their case by analysing eight diverse countries: India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, the Maldives, the Netherlands, the UK and the USA. Theoretically novel and global in scope, this book provides a compelling explanation of how strategic narratives can help achieve the global policy coordination needed to confront vital challenges in contemporary international relations. The proposed strategic narrative buy-in framework is applicable to many global policy issues, be it promoting trade and infrastructure projects, mitigating climate change or managing pandemics.
