Book Kathryn Kelly

Download or read book Kathryn Kelly written by Barbara Casey and published by Strategic Media Books. This book was released on 2016-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Kathryn Kelly: The Moll Behind Machine Gun Kelly" is a biography of the woman who made a career of crime. With a lust for danger, she masterminded the crimes that took her and her husband, and others who included her own mother and stepfather, on a spree across Minnesota, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Texas. Starting with smaller crimes that included bootlegging, smuggling liquor onto an Oklahoma Indian reservation, and other petty crimes, she encouraged her husband, George Barnes aka George Kelly, toward a life of more serious criminal activity that eventually escalated into bank robberies, kidnapping and extortion. Many believe that it was Kathryn, after giving him a machine gun, who developed George's feared persona and the name of "Machine Gun Kelly." FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover was even convinced that the two were somehow connected in the Lindbergh kidnapping. Kathryn and Machine Gun Kelly were eventually captured after kidnapping Charles Urschel, a wealthy Oklahoma City oilman, and collecting a $200,000 ransomthe largest ransom ever paid at that time. Eventually, the two were captured in Memphis, where Kelly had grown up as a boy. During their trial in Oklahoma City, movie cameras were allowed into the courtroom for the first time as curious spectators across the nation watched. Kathryn, while claiming to be an innocent victim in a bad marriage, remained unrepentant, smiling and primping for the cameras, and writing threatening letters to the judge and attorneys assigned to the case as well as her victims. Convicted in 1933, Kathryn served twenty-five years of her life sentence at FPC Alderson, West Virginia, when in 1958 she was finally released into obscurity. Although much has been written about Machine Gun Kelly, there is very little known about Kathryn. Through narrative, FBI files, rare quotes from George Kelly's son and other relatives and associates, extensive research, and several photographs, "Kathryn Kelly ¬The Moll behind Machine Gun Kelly" is the first book ever written about a woman who chose to follow a life of crime during the Prohibition era.

Book Miss D and Me

Book excerpt: For ten years Kathryn Sermak was at Bette Davis's side--first as an employee, and then as her closest friend--and in Miss D and Me she tells the story of the great star's harrowing but inspiring final years, a story fans have been waiting decades to hear. Miss D and Me is a story of two powerful women, one at the end of her life and the other at the beginning. As Bette Davis aged she was looking for an assistant, but she found something more than that in Kathryn: a loyal and loving buddy, a co-conspirator in her jokes and schemes, and a competent assistant whom she trained never to miss a detail. But Miss D had strict rules for Kathryn about everything from how to eat a salad to how to wear her hair...even the spelling of Kathryn's name was changed (adding the "y") per Miss D's request. Throughout their time together, the two grew incredibly close, and Kathryn had a front-row seat to the larger-than-life Davis's career renaissance in her later years, as well as to the humiliating public betrayal that nearly killed Miss D. The frame of this story is a four-day road trip Kathryn and Davis took from Biarritz to Paris, during which they disentangled their ferocious dependency. Miss D and Me is a window into the world of the unique and formidable Bette Davis, told by the person who perhaps knew her best of all.

Book Too Soon Too Late

Download or read book Too Soon Too Late written by Ralph Kelly and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2019-05-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a winter's night in July 2012, Kathy and Ralph Kelly received a phone call no parent should ever have to answer. It was the Emergency department of a Sydney hospital, telling them that their eldest son Thomas had been in an altercation and that they were to come at once. Thomas had been coward punched by a total stranger within two minutes of getting out of a taxi in Kings Cross, on his way to a private 18th birthday party of a friend. Two days after that first phone call Kathy and Ralph were told that their son had suffered catastrophic head injuries resulting in brain death. They were advised that there was no other option but to switch off his life support. He was 18 years old. In the aftermath of their son's death, Kathy and Ralph became the public face of the campaign to end the drunken violence that plagued Sydney's major nightspots. Along with Premiers Barry O'Farrell and Mike Baird they helped institute the lock out laws that have been a major factor in the reduction of alcohol related deaths and injuries in Darling Harbour, Kings Cross and Sydney's CBD. They were also instrumental in creating Take Kare Safe Spaces ('Kare' with a 'K' after Thomas's initials) for young people in key nightspots, which has now registered over 52,000 interventions since December 2014, what the Kellys call 'sliding door moments', the difference between a young person's life continuing on as normal or degenerating into something terrible. And they were one of the driving forces behind the introduction of tougher sentencing for 'coward-punch' deaths. But their campaigning created a huge toll on their family. Online intimidation, death threats and false news about the mishandling of donations came from those with a stake in the clubs and businesses who were the lock out laws financial losers. When Stuart Kelly, Thomas's younger brother, went for his first night at University of Sydney's St Paul's College, Ralph and Kathy believe the bullying he experienced because of the family's profile was so traumatising he left university for good the next day, and wouldn't tell his parents exactly what he'd been made to endure. Five months later, on July 25th 2016, Stuart took his own life. This book is the Kellys' story. How they coped with one unimaginable tragedy, only to find that it had sowed the seed for another. How in the face of these terrible losses they have found the spirit and the drive to campaign first for a safer environment for all our children, and for a greater understanding of young people's self-harm and its drivers.

Book Soul Health Aligning with Spirit for Radiant Living Revised Second Edition

Download or read book Soul Health Aligning with Spirit for Radiant Living Revised Second Edition written by Katherine T. Kelly and published by . This book was released on 2018-03-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soul Health: Aligning with Spirit for Radiant Living describes how the soul is at the hub of all aspects of our health and well-being and provides the roadmap to reaching optimal health-soul health. Until now, this key element of healing has been overlooked in modern approaches to healthcare, despite the wish of patients. On average, patients spend less than seven minutes with their health care providers during appointments. This is barely enough to address the common cold, let alone treat people as a unified whole. Also, over 90% of patients report wishing that their healthcare providers would address spiritual matters, while less than 5% do. With this patient feedback, Dr. Katherine Kelly, clinical health psychologist and former medical school professor, created a self-use health model that empowers patients to take positive steps toward their optimal health and addresses a patient's spiritual needs at the same time.Soul Health: Aligning with Spirit for Radiant Living provides the framework for achieving ultimate balance and fulfillment in your everyday life as well as provides important self-empowerment tools for your soul's evolution. Several self-assessments and questionnaires help readers to identify and prioritize which "branches" of health need attention first. Soul Health serves as both an instructional guide and workbook as readers create their path to radiant health.
