Book excerpt: New York Times bestseller How do you hold on to hope when you don’t get the ending you asked for? When Katie Davis Majors moved to Uganda, accidentally founded a booming organization, and later became the mother of thirteen girls through the miracle of adoption, she determined to weave her life together with the people she desired to serve. But joy often gave way to sorrow as she invested her heart fully in walking alongside people in the grip of poverty, addiction, desperation, and disease. After unexpected tragedy shook her family, for the first time Katie began to wonder, Is God really good? Does He really love us? When she turned to Him with her questions, God spoke truth to her heart and drew her even deeper into relationship with Him. Daring to Hope is an invitation to cling to the God of the impossible—the God who whispers His love to us in the quiet, in the mundane, when our prayers are not answered the way we want or the miracle doesn’t come. It’s about a mother discovering the extraordinary strength it takes to be ordinary. It’s about choosing faith no matter the circumstance and about encountering God’s goodness in the least expected places. Though your heartaches and dreams may take a different shape, you will find your own questions echoed in these pages. You’ll be reminded of the gifts of joy in the midst of sorrow. And you’ll hear God’s whisper: Hold on to hope. I will meet you here.

She has bought a run-down brownstone apartment building on Walker Avenue in New York. The deteriorated structure is the way Katrina feels about her own life. Something she had not counted on was while the rebuilding, inside and out, was taking place, she grew to know and admire the twenty souls who have occupied the brownstone for many years. Some of the tenants are excited and willing to be a part of this renewal effort while a few are very skeptical, especially one older man. Katrina and her sister are trying to mend their own broken lives following the death of their parents and two brothers in an automobile accident. The tenants' lives and Kat's personal life began to intertwine as a strong awareness and respect starts to take shape. The surrounding brownstones lining Walker Avenue are occupied with people fearing the abrupt change. Envy and anger fills their conscious emotions. They are simply afraid. Ms. Kat's Brownstone is a story of strength, kindness, and hope.

Since that time, a vast number of women have accepted their calling into the ministry; yet, they still encounter many unnecessary obstacles. It is her hope that this book will enable men and women of God to come together and work in God's vineyard that souls may be saved. The author is trying to give a voice to the voiceless women who are somehow afraid to step out from behind the world of preconceived notions and ideology and do what the Lord says. We must put on the garment of praise, lift up holy hands and give God the praise, for He is able to sustain us. Be encouraged!

Featuring FBI hostage negotiator Kat Bronsky, these are two stories of pilots, passengers, and planes in peril that move at supersonic speed. The Last Hostage: When airline pilot Ken Wolfe learns that the presumptive nominee for US attorney general is on his flight, his blood runs cold. Rudolph Bostich bungled the case after Wolfe’s daughter was kidnapped and killed—and let the perpetrator walk. Now Wolfe is prepared to do anything for revenge, including hijacking his own plane. It’s up to FBI agent, psychologist, and rookie hostage negotiator Kat Bronsky to solve the mystery of an eleven-year-old girl’s murder and save the lives of 130 terrified passengers. Blackout: A Boeing/McDonnell-Douglas MD-11 jetliner crashes into the Gulf of Mexico a mile inside Cuban waters, killing all onboard. The last three minutes on the plane’s cockpit voice and data recorders have been erased. Was it a massive mechanical failure or an act of terrorism? When another airliner goes down after its pilots are flash-blinded midflight, Kat Bronsky races from the jungles of Southeast Asia to the forests of the American Northwest to unmask the conspirators before the entire American airline industry comes crashing out of the sky.

Book Hating God

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bernard Schweizer
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2010-11-04
  • ISBN : 0199781346
  • Pages : 257 pages

Download or read book Hating God written by Bernard Schweizer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-04 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While atheists such as Richard Dawkins have now become public figures, there is another and perhaps darker strain of religious rebellion that has remained out of sight--people who hate God. In this revealing book, Bernard Schweizer looks at men and women who do not question God's existence, but deny that He is merciful, competent, or good. Sifting through a wide range of literary and historical works, Schweizer finds that people hate God for a variety of reasons. Some are motivated by social injustice, human suffering, or natural catastrophes that God does not prevent. Some blame God for their personal tragedies. Schweizer concludes that, despite their blasphemous thoughts, these people tend to be creative and moral individuals, and include such literary lights as Friedrich Nietzsche, Mark Twain, Zora Neale Hurston, Rebecca West, Elie Wiesel, and Philip Pullman. Schweizer shows that literature is a fertile ground for God haters. Many authors, who dare not voice their negative attitude to God openly, turn to fiction to give vent to it. Indeed, Schweizer provides many new and startling readings of literary masterpieces, highlighting the undercurrent of hatred for God. Moreover, by probing the deeper mainsprings that cause sensible, rational, and moral beings to turn against God, Schweizer offers answers to some of the most vexing questions that beset human relationships with the divine.
