Book excerpt: Tenley White’s life fell apart with one tragic accident. They say that every time a door closes, a window opens somewhere else. The door slamming mercilessly in her face was the loss of her parents, her window—well, that came in the form of a family—specifically, a certain boy who purrs. She may not have acute hearing, smelling, or the strength of her newfound friends, but even as a mere mortal, she knows when she’s being watched and hunted. She can feel the predator closing in on her. There’s no distance far enough between her and the lurking danger. Then she gets a warning, one that sends her far away from the boy she’s fallen in love with, as well as the security of those she’s bonded to. There’s no foreseeable safety net where she’s going. She’ll have to learn to listen to her instincts in order to survive. Tripp Dagon had his life pre-planned for him upon conception. He would be the next generation of enforcers for the Moonstone Falls Pride. With no interaction with humans before Tenley, he begins questioning what’s so dangerous, so alarmingly wicked, about human beings that the clowder has banned relationships forming between the two factions. As he spends time with her, the harder he plunges into the depths of love. His tiger has claimed her—his family refers to her as kin. The only thing missing is the proclamation from his inner entity that Tenley is his mate. But before he comes of age, she runs off in the pitch darkness of the night, taking his heart and soul with her. When they reconnect by happenstance, fears of abandonment and safety stay in the front of their minds. But as the past catches up with them, they have to decide whether they’re stronger together or if it's better for all involved that they go their separate ways? Welcome to the world of the Moonstone Falls Pride.

Book Tibetan Environmentalists in China

Download or read book Tibetan Environmentalists in China written by Liu Jianqiang and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2015-12-24 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book weaves together the life stories of five extraordinary contemporary Tibetans involved in environmental protection (as well as a host of secondary characters): Tashi Dorje, a well-known and celebrated environmentalist; Karma Samdrup, a philanthropist, businessman, and environmentalist; Rinchen Samdrup, Karma’s brother, another extraordinary environmentalist; Gendun, a painter, historian, and researcher from Amdo; and Musuo, a Tibetan from the Dechin area of northwest Yunnan who founded the Khawakarpo Culture Society. In the politically fraught and ever-worsening situation for Tibetans within China today, it is often said that the only possible path for a better solution will be through a change in the way that the majority Chinese society thinks about and understands Tibetans, their aspirations, histories, and desires. This book provides the first such account by drawing readers in with beautiful narrative prose and fascinating stories, and then using their attention to demystify Tibetans, cultivating in the reader a sense of empathy as well as facts upon which to rebuild an intercultural understanding. It is the first work that seriously aims to let the Chinese public understand Tibetans as both products of an admirable culture and as complex individuals negotiating religious ideals, economic change, and sociopolitical constraints. In short it opens up a whole new way of understanding Tibet.

She’s contemplating moving back to Chicago where her family resides, but Desiree can’t deny that returning to her hometown for the sake of employment is her only reason. Just a few weeks prior, Desiree had the pleasure of meeting philanthropist Julian Alexander Rose, awkwardly enough, at the hospital. And since the strange encounter, getting Julian off her mind has been Desiree’s biggest failure. International male model, Julian Alexander Rose is in the highlight of his career. As the owner of A Few Good Men Male Modeling Agency, Julian has his hands full with day-to-day business activities. He’s only in Chicago for a short while upon meeting Desiree Steven's, and the unbridled hunger that overtakes Julian is soul-stirring at least. From the moment their worlds collide, Julian’s certain there’s more to their supernatural connection. Being a man unwilling to let Desiree get away, Julian formulates the perfect plan that lands them alone together, and his next move may just bring him to his knees. The Falling for a Rose series follows each member of the Rose family as they explore this thing called love. However, each book is just as enjoyable if read as a standalone as it is if read in the series order.

Book Sanatana Dharma and Plantation Hinduism Second Edition Volume 2

Download or read book Sanatana Dharma and Plantation Hinduism Second Edition Volume 2 written by Ramesh Gampat and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-01-06 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian Missionaries worked hard to convert immigrants. Their first order of business was to denigrate Hinduism, designate Hindus as heathen, and disparage their culture, food and even attire. Immigrants stubbornly resisted, led by the tiny educated elite, including Brhmaas whom we call Brahmins. Conversion was a failure at least up to the end of the 19th century but picked up a self-generating momentum thereafter. The result is that the share of Hindus in Guyana’s Indian population declined from 83.5 percent in 1880 to 62.8 percent in 2012. The largest portion of the contraction was lost to Christianity. The loss notwithstanding, even a casual observer would conclude that Guyanese Hindus, at home and in the Diaspora, are a very religious people. Many of us do a jhandi or havan once annually; others do the more elaborate and costlier yajña, where everyone is welcome, once or twice in their lifetime. Most of us do a short daily puja – prayers, offerings, reading the stras and listening to bhajan – in our homes. An important, but perhaps unintended, way immigrants countered conversion to Christianity was an unplanned movement towards a “synthesis” that brought Hindus, regardless of caste or sect, under a “unitary form of Hinduism.” The “synthesis” began around the 1870s and was completed by the 1930s to the 1950s. Guyanese Hindus call the unified corpus of religious beliefs and practices that emerged from the “synthesis” Sanatana Dharma. Ramesh Gampat labels it Plantation Hinduism in this path-breaking book. The book argues that the brand of Hinduism practiced is inconsistent with Sanatana Dharma, called Vednta by the more philosophically inclined. Plantation Hinduism features an extraordinary dependence upon purohits (pandits), which has anaesthetized the Hindu mind and render him unable to think, question and inquire when it comes to Dharma. Rituals and bhakti have been degraded and turned into desire-motivated worship; devats have been misconstrued as Brahman rather than as limited manifestation of the one non-dual pure Consciousness; belief in the multiplicity of gods encourages image worship; and superstitions anchor Guyanese Hindus to tradition and mere belief. Plantation Hinduism is little more than desire-motivated actions, dogmas and superstitions. Absent is the idea that Sanatana Dharma is a spiritual science no less scientific than hard sciences, such as physics and astronomy. The central message of Vednta is the innate divinity of every person and the freedom to realize that divinity through anubhava, direct personal experience of Supreme Reality.
