Book The Class Struggles in France 1848 1850

Download or read book The Class Struggles in France 1848 1850 written by Karl Marx and published by Wellred Books. This book was released on 1968 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revolutions of 1848 which broke out across the world are among the landmark events of the nineteenth century. The experiences of this tumultuous period helped to crystallise and sharpen the ideas of Marx and Engels. Written in the midst of events, in a profound and detailed application of historical materialism, Marx reveals that the political and social changes taking place in revolutionary and counter-revolutionary France have their root in the economic changes affecting European capitalism. Included is Engels' uncensored introduction to the 1895 edition. Here, Engels provides historical context and shows how this period relates to subsequent events in France – including the Paris Commune – as well as explaining the development of Marx and Engels' own conception of scientific socialism.

Book Karl Marx Class Struggles

Download or read book Karl Marx Class Struggles written by Douglas Stones and published by . This book was released on 2021-02-11 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karl Marx was born in Trier, Germany, on May 5, 1818. Of Jewish descent, his paternal grandfather, Meier Halevi Marx, was the rabbi of Trier, and his mother, Henrietta Presburg, was also Jewish. However, his father, Heinrich Marx, converted to Christianity, not because he believed in religion, but to continue to practice his profession, since at that time Jews were not free to practice all professions and conduct business transactions. It is interesting to think that the main author of the working class cause was born into a middle-class Jewish family. The region of Germany where Marx was born and the historical context are fundamental to understand his biography and thought. The fact that his father had to convert to Christianity, the difficulties that Jews experienced just for being Jews, the pre-revolution political context, and the philosophical issues of his time are crucial aspects to understand his work.In October 1835, Marx entered the University of Bonn to study law at the age of 17. In 1836 Marx's father transferred him to the University of Berlin. That same year Marx and Jenny became engaged to be married. Both Jenny's and Marx's families were not enthusiastic about the couple, which caused the two to take 7 years to finally get married. Their lives were marked by partnership, as Jenny transcribed and translated her husband's works. The two had 7 children, two of whom died of diseases related to the poverty in which they lived.Karl Marx's major work, entitled "The Capital" (Das Kapital), took 16 years to complete. During this period he and his family lived through periods of great need and was almost always supported by his main friend and collaborator, Friedrich Engels. His wife, although the daughter of a baron, could not support the large family for long. And despite the recognition the author received after his death, his books did not make much of a stir during publication.Marx is known as the founder of an area of knowledge within the human sciences. His works deal with history, philosophy, economics, and sociology. Marx's contribution to economics is undeniable, especially regarding the theory of economic value and the development of concepts such as surplus value and the commodity fetish. For history, the materialist conception is considered a watershed. To think a way out of capitalism, seeking new forms of production and economic distribution that would equalize men in their material and social conditions, freeing them from alienation, was one of the greatest efforts of Marx's theory.Marx's work is almost always analyzed from his intellectual influences, such as Hegel, Fauerbach, Ricardo, and Adam Smith. The scope of his works is immeasurable, but we can cite the Russian Revolution as one of the events related to the impact of his work. His name is invariably associated with theories on communism, socialism, and revolution.Karl Marx died on March 14, 1883 in London.

Book Class Struggle

Download or read book Class Struggle written by Domenico Losurdo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-06 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available for the first time in English, this book examines and reinterprets class struggle within Marx and Engels’ thought. As Losurdo argues, class struggle is often misunderstood as exclusively the struggle of the poor against the rich, of the humble against the powerful. It is an interpretation that is dear to populism, one that supposes a binary logic that closes its eyes to complexity and inclines towards the celebration of poverty as a place of moral excellence. This book, however, shows the theory of class struggle is a general theory of social conflict. Each time, the most adverse social conflicts are intertwined in different ways. A historical situation always emerges with specific and unique characteristics that necessitate serious examination, free of schematic and biased analysis. Only if it breaks away from populism can Marxism develop the ability to interpret and change the world.

Book Marxist Class Theory for a Skeptical World

Download or read book Marxist Class Theory for a Skeptical World written by Raju J Das and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marxist Theory of Class for a Skeptical World is a critique of some of the influential radical theories of class, and presents an alternative approach to it. This book critically discusses Analytical Marxist and Post-structuralist Marxist theories of class, and offers an alternative approach that is rooted in the ideas of Marx and Engels as well as Lenin and Trotsky. It presents a materialist-dialectical foundation for class theory, and conceptualizes class at the trans-historical level and at the level of capitalism. It shows that capitalism is an objectively-existing articulation of exchange, property and value relations, between capital and labour, at multiple geographical scales, and that the state is an arm of class relation. It draws out implications of class relations for consciousness and political power of the proletariat.

Download or read book The Class Struggles in France written by Karl Marx and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012-11-05 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Class Struggles in France, 1848 to 1850 is a work by Karl Marx in which the most important tenets of historical materialism, the theory and tactics of the proletariat's class struggle, are developed on the basis of an examination of the Revolution of 1848 in France. It was written by Marx from January to March 1850 and published as three articles in the first three issues of the journal Neue Rheinische Zeitung: Politischökonomische Revue (1850) under the title “From 1848 to 1849.” Reissuing Marx' work in 1895, F. Engels entitled it “The Class Struggles in France, 1848 to 1850,” wrote an introduction, and included a supplementary, fourth chapter. Incorporated into the fourth chapter were sections of Marx' and Engels' third review of the international situation, written in November 1849 and placed in the fourth and fifth issues of the Neue Rheinische Zeitung, which were devoted to the events in France.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Karl Marx

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Karl Marx written by Matt Vidal and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-03-26 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karl Marx is one of the most influential writers in history. Despite repeated obituaries proclaiming the death of Marxism, in the 21st century Marx's ideas and theories continue to guide vibrant research traditions in sociology, economics, political science, philosophy, history, anthropology, management, economic geography, ecology, literary criticism, and media studies. Due to the exceptionally wide influence and reach of Marxist theory, including over 150 years of historical debates and traditions within Marxism, finding a point of entry can be daunting. The Oxford Handbook of Karl Marx provides an entry point for those new to Marxism. At the same time, its chapters, written by leading Marxist scholars, advance Marxist theory and research. Its coverage is more comprehensive than previous volumes on Marx in terms of both foundational concepts and state-of-the-art empirical research on contemporary social problems. It is also provides equal space to sociologists, economists, and political scientists, with substantial contributions from philosophers, historians, and geographers. The Oxford Handbook of Karl Marx consists of six sections. The first section, Foundations, includes chapters that cover the foundational concepts and theories that constitute the core of Marx's theories of history, society, and political economy. This section demonstrates that the core elements of Marx's political economy of capitalism continue to be defended, elaborated, and applied to empirical social science and covers historical materialism, class, capital, labor, value, crisis, ideology, and alienation. Additional sections include Labor, Class, and Social Divisions; Capitalist States and Spaces; Accumulation, Crisis, and Class Struggle in the Core Countries; Accumulation, Crisis, and Class Struggle in the Peripheral and Semi-Peripheral Countries; and Alternatives to Capitalism.

Book The Communist Manifesto

Download or read book The Communist Manifesto written by Karl Marx and published by Jaico Publishing House. This book was released on 2018 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Celebrating Karl Marx’s 200th Birth Anniversary The Communist Manifesto has been recognized as one of the world’s most influential political manuscripts. Commissioned by the Communist League, it laid out the League’s purposes and program. It presents an analytical approach to the class struggle (historical and present) and the problems of capitalism, rather than a prediction of communism’s potential future forms. The book contains Marx and Engels’ theories about the nature of society and politics, that in their own words, “The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.” It also briefly features their ideas for how the capitalist society of the time would eventually be replaced by socialism, and then eventually communism. Born in Westphalia in 1820, Friedrich Engels was the son of a textile manufacturer. After military training in Berlin and already a convert to communism, Engels went to Manchester in 1842 to represent the family firm. A relationship with a mill-hand, Mary Bums, and friendship with local Owenites and Chartists helped to inspire his famous early work, The Condition of the Working Class in England in 1844. Karl Marx was born in 1818 in Trier, Germany and studied in Bonn and Berlin. Influenced by Hegel, he later reacted against idealist philosophy and began to develop his own theory of historical materialism. He related the state of society to its economic foundations and mode of production, and recommended armed revolution on the part of the proletariat.
