Download or read book Karaova written by Çağlar Çetok and published by Destek Publishing and Media Group. This book was released on 2020-12-14 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Sonunda kendini bile isteye Fizan’a bile sürdürür. Amacı, kendi itibarını yerle bir ederek peşinden sürüklenip gelen halkı kendinden uzaklaştırmaktır. Kerimoğlu Ali’nin insani zaafları yüzünden yaptığı hatalarla bambaşka bir seyir kazanan hayatı bilinmeze doğru sürüklenirken, sevdiği kadının katili olarak tutuklanan torunu Memed’in acıklı hikâyesi de romanın paralel kurgusunda akar. Çağlar Çetok’un tarihin unutulmaz iki efesinin gerçek hayat hikâyelerinden kurgulayarak kaleme aldığı Karaova hem bir dönemin siyasi ve toplumsal panoramasını gözler önüne seriyor hem de derinlikli psikolojik tahlilleriyle iki efenin mücadelesi üzerinden iyilikle kötülük meselesini tarafsızca sorguluyor.

Book Risk Assessment of Dams

Download or read book Risk Assessment of Dams written by Aytaç Güven and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-27 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a timely report on methods for risk assessment procedures for dams, with a special emphasis on dams with small storage dimensions. It starts by introducing all important definitions relating to dams, dam safety, such as the most common failure modes, and risks. In turn, it describes in detail the most important evaluation procedures for various failure modes such as piping, flood, earthquake and stability are described in this chapter. Consequence assessment procedures, together with the different steps of the risk evaluation process, are analyzed, providing a guide on how to identify the appropriate failure mode for the examined dam and setting up the appropriate safety plan. The book introduces the most common methods for predicting peak breach discharge, analyzing some relevant case studies. Upon comparing the findings obtained with the different methods, the book concludes with some general suggestions and ideas for future developments. This book fills an important gap between theoretical works and real-life problems being investigating in practical research studies on dam safety and risk management. It provides readers with the necessary knowledge on risk analysis and shows how to apply this in practice to carry out dam safety studies. It offers practical guidelines to set up risk assessment procedures for different failure modes and predicting failure parameters such as failure time, peak breach discharge and breach width.

Book Tectonic Development of the Eastern Mediterranean Region

Download or read book Tectonic Development of the Eastern Mediterranean Region written by A. H. F. Robertson and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2006 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Eastern Mediterranean region is a classic area for the study of tectonic processes and settings related to the development of the Tethyan orogenic belt. The present set of research and synthesis papers by earth scientists from countries in this region and others provides an up-to-date, interdisciplinary overview of the tectonic development of the Eastern Mediterranean region from Precambrian to Recent. Key topics include continental rifting, ophiolite genesis and emplacement, continental collision, extensional tectonics, crustal exhumation and intra-plate deformation (e.g. active faulting). Alternative tectonic reconstructions of the Tethyan orogen are presented and discussed, with important implications for other regions of the world. The book will be an essential source of information and interpretation for academic researchers (geologists and geophysicists), advanced undergraduates and also for industry professionals, including those concerned with hydrocarbons, minerals and geological hazards (e.g. earthquakes).

Book The Oxford History of the Archaic Greek World

Download or read book The Oxford History of the Archaic Greek World written by Paul Cartledge and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-04-23 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ancient Greek world consisted of approximately 1,000 autonomous polities scattered across the Mediterranean basin and was remarkable for both its diversity and its uniformity. As Greeks dispersed throughout the Mediterranean, the different environmental and human ecosystems they encountered created important differences among widely scattered settlements: each Greek community developed its own unique set of socio-political institutions and social practices. Nonetheless, despite their dispersal and diversity, Greek communities were bound together by a network of commercial, cultural, diplomatic, and military ties and shared important commonalities, most notably language and religion. The Oxford History of the Archaic Greek World, a collaborative effort by more than forty eminent scholars, offers twenty-one detailed and comprehensive studies of key sites from across the Greek world in the period between c. 750 and c. 480 BCE. During that period, Greeks confronted a series of demographic, political, social, and economic challenges and generated an array of responses that transformed the ways in which they lived, worked, and interacted. Much of what is now seen as distinctive about Greek culture--such as democracy, stone temples, and nude athletics--first developed during the Archaic period. The series is organized alphabetically by polis. Volume I contains detailed and up-to-date studies of Argos, Chalcis and Eretria, Chios-Lesbos-Samos, and Corcyra. Together with the other volumes in the series, the Oxford History of the Archaic Greek World offers a new and unique resource for the study of ancient Greece that will transform how we understand a crucial era in antiquity.

Book Field Guide to Samos and the Menderes Massif

Download or read book Field Guide to Samos and the Menderes Massif written by Klaus Gessner and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2011 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this field-trip guide we explore the tectonics of Samos and the Menderes Massif, two fascinating areas within the eastern Mediterranean section of the Tethyan orogen. We include detailed outcrop descriptions, maps, and diagrams to explore along-strike variations in the Hellenide-Anatolide orogen, including the architecture of the Early Tertiary Alpine nappe stack and its strong Miocene extensional overprint. The suggested itinerary is based on the 2010 Geological Society of America Field Forum "Significance of Along-Strike Variations for the 3-D Architecture of Orogens: The Hellenides and Anatolides in the Eastern Mediterranean." We start the outcrop descriptions with Day 1 in Samos, where, untypically for the N-S-stretched Aegean region, Miocene extension is E-W. We describe a section in western Samos, where the Cycladic Blueschist Unit is in contact with the underlying External Hellenides along a large-scale thrust, reactivated as a Miocene top-east extensional shear zone. The focus of Day 2 is on high-pressure assemblages in northern Samos. The following three days explore the Anatolide Belt in western Turkey where the Menderes nappes-also known as the Menderes Massif-form the tectonic footwall below the Cycladic Blueschist Unit. The outcrops in western Anatolia include the Cycladic Blueschist Unit in the area around Selcuk (Day 3) and sections across the Bozdaĝ and Aydin Mountains including the Kuzey and Güney detachment faults and the Cycladic Menderes Thrust (Days 4 and 5). Outcrops on Day 6 showcase structures along the southern margin of the Menderes Massif in the Milas-Selimiye area.
